2-year Caries Clinical Study: Arginine Fluoride-Free Toothpastes vs. NaF Toothpaste

Dental Caries

The objective of this study is to evaluate the anticaries efficacy for three dentifrices (1.5% arginine in a calcium base, 8.0% arginine in a calcium base, and 0.32% sodium fluoride in a silica base) in a two-year caries clinical study

Clinical Efficacy of Fluoride Toothpastes Using an In Situ Caries Model

Dental Caries

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of the test toothpaste containing 1150 parts per million (ppm) of fluoride (F) on the mineral content of demineralized enamel specimens, in an in situ caries model system, by comparing the differences in net remineralization change (ΔM) following use of the test toothpaste with a fluoride free (0 ppm F) reference control toothpaste.

MI Varnish and MI Paste Plus in a Caries Prevention and Remineralization Study

Dental White SpotsDental Caries

The objective of this clinical study is to evaluate the efficacy of multiple applications of MI Varnish in combination with MI Paste Plus in caries protection and remineralization in comparison to the use of a control (Crest 1,100ppm Fluoride tooth paste, Fluoride rinse recommendation) in orthodontic patients in a randomized, single blind, prospective, controlled clinical trial over 12 months. The effect will be measured by white spot lesion regression and prevention as lesion count. Lesions will be scored using the Enamel Decalcification Index (EDI) area evaluation scheme (primary outcome), International Caries Detection and Assessment System (ICDAS), the caries lesion activity criteria (Nyvad criteria; Bente Nyvad, Scandinavian Researcher), and Quantitative Light Fluorescence (QLF, Inspektor Pro, Netherlands)/SOPROLIFE (SOPROLIFE fluorescence camera system, Acteon, France) evaluation in maxillary and mandibular anterior teeth with orthodontic brackets in treatment and control groups.

Evaluation of a Low Fluoride Dentifrice for Caries Control

Dental Caries

The aim of this randomized clinical trial is to evaluate the effect of pH and fluoride concentration in liquid dentifrices in the control of dental caries in early childhood, in non-fluoridated area. This study also aims to assess the effect of the consistency of liquid dentifrices in the fluoride uptake in the plaque and the fluoride concentration in the toenails, to estimate the fluoride intake from these formulations.

Effect of the Consumption of Probiotics in the Reduction of Incidence of Carious Lesions in Preschool...

Caries ReductionCaries Prevention

Probiotics are microorganisms that when administered in adequate amounts can confer health benefits. In vitro and clinical studies support the idea that lactobacilli have protective effects on oral health. A recent study in which preschoolers consumed milk drinks enriched with Lactobacillus rhamnosus, reported a reduction in caries, as well as additional benefits to children. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of daily consumption of milk beverages enriched with Lactobacillus rhamnosus on the incidence of caries in preschool Chilean children.

Phase 2, Open-Label Study for Safety, Microbiology and PK of Single or Multiple Oral C16G2 Gel Doses...

Dental Caries

Part A: Open-label, multiple arm, safety, microbiology and pharmacokinetic (PK) study in healthy adult male and female subjects 18-75 years of age. All subjects will be assessed for safety and microbiology parameters. A subset of subjects will be assessed for pharmacokinetic parameters. No longer enrolling study subjects in Part A. Part B: Open-label, multiple arm, safety and microbiology study in healthy adult male and female subjects 18-75 years of age. All subjects will be assessed for safety, pharmacokinetic, and microbiology parameters.

CAMBRA - PBRN Caries Management By Risk Assessment In A Practice-Based Research Network

Dental Caries

The goal of this project is to create a Practice Based Research Network with 30 researcher dentists calibrated on the administration of a caries risk assessment and the treatment modalities recommended based on the caries risk assessment results (Caries Management by Risk Assessment - CAMBRA), and to conduct a 2-year CAMBRA study in those dental offices. Participating dentists will be a mix of general practitioners and pediatric dentists selected from private practice, part time university faculty, large group practices, or community clinics. Participating practices will collect baseline data and patient progress and report on patient acceptance and compliance, and the effectiveness of treatment. The program's duration is anticipated to be approximately four years. Year one will be dedicated to program, protocol and evaluation design, and recruitment, selection and calibration of researcher dentists. Years two and three will be the research and data collection time period, and year four will be dedicated to evaluation.

Effectiveness of Fissure Sealant and Topical Fluoride Application in Preventing Dental Caries

Dental Caries

Nearly half of the 12-year-old children in China have dental caries (tooth decay) and most of the lesions are in the fissures of the first permanent molars. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of three methods in preventing fissure caries in permanent teeth in Chinese children, namely resin fissure sealant, sodium fluoride varnish, and silver diamine fluoride solution. The cost-effectiveness of these methods will also be compared. About 400 children, aged 8 to 9 years, will be recruited. Clinical examination of the children will be conducted in school using portable dental lights and instruments to identify teeth that need caries prevention. The children will be randomly allocated to one of the three test or the control groups. Treatments will be provided in the study primary schools according to standard clinical protocols. Follow-up examinations will be carried out every six months for 30 months to assess whether the preventive methods are successful, i.e. no dental caries develops in the treated teeth. The findings of this study will be of great value to dentists and public health authorities in deciding on the most appropriate dental caries prevention programme for school children in China and other developing countries.

Glass Ionomer Sealant and Fluoride Varnish Study to Prevent Early Childhood Caries

Dental Caries

The goal of this project is to conduct a community-based randomized clinical trial to compare the caries prevention efficacy of fluoride varnish applied every six months vs. fluoride varnish applied every six months and fluoride releasing glass ionomer sealants applied annually to the eligible occlusal surfaces of primary molars in 3-6-year-old children.

Bifidobacterium Lactis BB12 and Xylitol Delivered With a Novel Slow-release Pacifier

Dental CariesInfectious Diseases

Aims: To develop a food supplement containing a health-promoting probiotic bacteria (B. lactis BB12) and xylitol to be administered with a novel soft, possibly occlusion-friendly pacifier. Test in a clinical study how feasible the method is and to study how the intervention affects caries occurrence. Main hypothesis: The administration of B. lactis BB12 and xylitol affects beneficially the dental health of the child.
