Prenatal Depression and Failure to Breastfeed

Breastfeeding After Discharge From Hospital Following ChildbirthYes/no1 more

The purpose of this prospective cohort study is to search for a relationship between maternal depression in the third trimester, as indicated by a score of > 12 on the EPDS, and a choice not to breastfeed at all, defined as no breastfeeding after dismissal from the hospital. The investigators hypothesize that women who screen positive for prenatal depression will be significantly less likely to breastfeed their babies after discharge from the hospital following childbirth.

Comparative Responses to 15 Different Antidepressants in Major Depressive Disorder

Major Depressive Disorder

Achieving results from RCTs with high internal and external validity is a major challenge within psychiatry due to the nature of psychiatric illnesses. The Investigators will conduct a "real world" naturalistic nation-wide population-based longitudinal register linkage study comparing long-term responses to all kinds of antidepressants in patients with major depressive disorder emulating a randomized trial.

Long-Term Follow Up Study

Major Depressive Disorder

The LTFU study will conduct a naturalistic follow up of the well characterized CAN-BIND study population of patients every six months and continuing over a five-year period. This will provide information on the longitudinal progress in mood, functioning, and quality of life of the CAN-BIND sample with a view towards long-term outcome and treatment.

5 Alpha Reductase Inhibitors And The Risk Of Suicide And Depression

BPHDepression1 more

In December 2015, Health Canada issued a warning about a potential relationship between suicide and finasteride use and called for further research. No population based studies have assessed the risk of suicide with finasteride use, and this risk is not currently part of the product monograph. Furthermore, the link between depression and finasteride has not been well studied in the older population who are the primary users of this medication.

Predictors of Suicidal Behavior in Depression

Suicidal BehaviorDepression2 more

This study aims at identifying predictors of suicidal behaviors in depressed subjects. Investigators will first compare demographic, clinical, and biological features of depressed recent suicide attempters (within one week) and depressed subjects without lifetime history of suicide attempt. Baseline risk factors for suicide will be used to predict the risk of attempting suicide during a one year follow-up. A thorough evaluation of these patients will allow to identify the factors associated with suicidal risk and develop a simplified risk score that could be used in clinical settings to improve our practice.

Monitoring Telemedicine Platform in Patients With Anxiety Symptoms and Alcohol Use Disorder

Anxiety DisordersAlcohol Use Disorder1 more

The objective of this study is to analyze the physiological patterns of two groups of patients, one control and one with anxiety disorder and alcoholic abuse disorder using sensor data from mobile devices and wearables. This data will be compared to the data presented by three clinical questionnaires: State-trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT), and the Beck's Depression Inventory (BDI-II) in order to determine the feasibility of remote collected data.

Heart Rate Variability as a Clinical Marker in a Population of Anxio-depressive Patients

Anxio Depressive Disorder

The heart rate (HR) is regulated by the autonomic nervous system (ANS) and results from a balance between the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) that accelerates the heart rate and the parasympathetic nervous system that slows the HR via the vagus nerve. Low HRV is linked to poor emotional and cognitive regulation. Values for HRV are generally lower in depressed patients. The aim of this study is to determine how HRV could be a clinical marker that can be used in routine psychiatry practice in patients with anxio-depressive disorders, to determine the severity of symptoms and the degree of response to treatment.
