Feasibility of the Post-Stroke Depression-toolkit

DepressionStroke

Rationale: Depression is a frequent complication after a stroke. In stroke guidelines several recommendations focus on early screening, and treatment off depression after stroke. Introducing clinical practice guidelines into routine daily practice however, is a difficult process. In order to make the recommendations applicable to clinical practice a toolkit was developed (the Post Stroke Depression-toolkit), which provides assessment tools for the early detection of depression after stroke, and a set of interventions in case of a positive screening for (risk on) depressive symptoms. Objective: to investigate the feasibility of the Post Stroke Depression-toolkit in daily practice. Study design: An explanatory mixed-methods, before-and-after study design. Study population: Nurses working on the neurological wards of one university hospital and two general hospitals in the Netherlands were included in the study. Additionally, data were obtained from patient charts.

Clinical and Suicidal Features of Urban, Turkish Middle Age Depressive Patients With Comorbid ADHD...

Depressive DisorderMajor2 more

In the presence of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) together with additional psychiatric diseases, the treatment process and prognosis of both ADHD and psychiatric comorbidity are adversely affected. The aim of this study is to compare the characteristics concerning the suicidal behavior of the patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) who have (ADHD+) or do not have (ADHD-) adult ADHD comorbidity and their responses to depression treatment. 96 inpatients were included in the study. Socio-demographic data form, Hamilton Depression Scale (HDRS), Wender Utah Rating Scale (WURS), Adult ADD/ADHD DSM IV- Based Diagnostic Screening and Rating Scale (A-ADHD), Personal and Social Performance Scale (PSP) were applied to the cases. In the study, depression starts at an early age in individuals with comorbid ADHD and the depression treatment progress changes negatively. This group of patients is at greater risk in terms of suicidal behavior. For these reasons, clinicians should be careful during ADHD and depression management in adults.

Comparison Study of the Different Abbreviated Versions of the Geriatric Depression Scale

DepressionDepressive Disorder2 more

This multicenter study conducted in several Portuguese institutions aims to compare the screening ability of the several Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) validated versions for the Portuguese population (GDS-30, GDS-15, GDS-10 and GDS-5), as well as to establish their psychometric properties, using a large sample of elderly people with neurocognitive disorders attending social responses addressed to the elderly. Secondarily, cognitive state will be assessed.

Prevalence of Depression and Anxiety Among Breast Cancer Patients

DepressionAnxiety1 more

Depression and anxiety in patients with breast cancer is serious comorbidity that affects the quality of life for patients, and their survival rates as they have poorer health outcomes. Furthermore, patients' high psychological burden is linked to higher healthcare costs. The investigation of the depression and anxiety symptoms prevalence among newly diagnosed breast cancer patients will help to navigate the health policy adjustment and psycho-social support system requirements. This study aims to investigate the prevalence of depression and anxiety symptoms among newly diagnosed breast cancer patients in Almaty, Kazakhstan, and associated risk factors.

Molecular Imaging of Brain Inflammation in Depressive Disorders

Depressive DisorderMajor1 more

In a number of neuropsychiatric disorders such as depression, both brain inflammation and glutamate mediated excitotoxicity (cell death through over-activated stimulation) are suspected to play a key role. It is difficult, if not impossible, to determine the potential destructiveness of the inflammatory response seen in disease states by studying the brain's inflammatory cells (microglia) activity in isolation. The investigators are proposing to develop the means to concurrently study inflammatory response (i.e., microglial activity) and its potentially devastating consequence (i.e., glutamate excitotoxicity) across the entire brain in order to establish the importance of inflammation. In this study the investigators propose a phased clinical study whereby the early-phase involves the development of our capacity to study inflammation-mediated damage to brain cells, followed by a feasibility study in patients with clinical depression that tests whether concurrent inflammation and glutamate excess could be measured in key brain regions associated with a depressed mood state.

Mechanisms of Anxiety and Depression Study

DepressionAnxiety

Eligible participants will come in for three separate visits in which they will be interviewed, perform a variety of tasks, and undergo a non-invasive MRI scan. The investigators anticipate that (1) participants with anxiety and depression will likely perform differently than the healthy controls on cognitive tasks, (2) participants with anxiety and depression will likely show differences in brain functionality compared to the healthy controls, and (3) depression and anxiety likely share some underlying mechanisms.
