Snack Foods and Their Impact on Mental Health and the Gut-brain Axis
DepressionAnxietyThe aim of this study is to investigate the effects of snack foods on mental health and the gut-brain axis, in adults with mild to moderate symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Precision Medicine in the Depression Treatment
Depressive DisorderMajor4 moreThe BrainDrugs-D study uses multimodal neuroimaging combined with self-report measures, clinical and molecular markers to identify clinically relevant predictors that can identify subtypes of major depressive disorder (MDD) and, in a naturalistic setting, predict treatment response to standard antidepressive treatment. The cohorts are followed in nationwide health registries.

40 Hz Light Neurostimulation for Patients With Depression (FELIX)
Major Depressive DisorderTreatment Resistant DepressionRecent research in mice models of Alzheimer's disease (AD) has demonstrated that one hour per day of exposure to 40 Hz flickering light therapy can halt the disease's progression, and improve cognition and memory. Moreover, recent data suggest that 40 Hz light stimulation may induce neuroplasticity and reduce neuroinflammation. In this study, the investigators aim to evaluate the antidepressant effects of 40 Hz light stimulation in Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). Patients will be exposed to 40 Hz invisible spectral flickering light (active setting) or continuous non-flickering white light (sham setting) in a home setting for 1 hour each day.

Psilocybin for Major Depressive Disorder
Major Depressive DisorderThe goal of this study is to assess the effectiveness of psilocybin for the treatment of Major Depressive Disorder and potential therapeutic mechanisms. Enrolled participants will receive a single active dose of psilocybin, or a dose considered high enough to treat depression, administered orally with accompanying psychological support.

Effects of a Single Dose of Amisulpride on Functional Brain Changes
Major Depressive DisorderThis study is designed to investigate effects of a single dose of amisulpride on functional brain changes during reward- and motivation-related processing and at rest in healthy volunteers (HV) and in patients with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD).

MBCT vs HEP in Patients With Late-Life Depression
Depression in Old AgeCognitive DeclineStudy Design & Recruitment: Phase III randomized controlled trial (RCT) with 200 patients. Participants with a diagnosis of late-life depression (LLD), excluding dementia and other psychiatric comorbidities, will be recruited at three health networks. LLD patients had no earlier depressive episodes before the age of 65. Interventions: Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) or Health Enhancement Program (HEP) for 8-weeks, in addition to TAU. MBCT and HEP will have the same group sizes, meeting frequency, and amount of home practice. HEP is a recognized active control where participants learn about diet and exercise, but not meditation.

Physical Activity in the Format of Self-defence Training for Depressive Symptoms
Depressive SymptomsInadequate mental health care capacity is a long-standing issue in Hong Kong (Yang & Mak, 2020). For example, a recent study predicts an additional 12% service need for specialist psychiatric care (Ni et al., 2020). It would be helpful to develop interventions that would ease the high demand of the health care system. Physical activity has been shown to reduce depressive symptoms in a number of studies (Bellón et al., 2021; Josefsson et al., 2014; Kvam et al., 2018; Schuch et al., 2016). Its flexibility and low-cost nature make physical activity a good intervention option for depressed individuals to do it anytime and anywhere. This study aims to investigate the effect of physical activity intervention in the format of self-defence training on depressive symptoms. Around 40 eligible participants with at least moderate level of depressive symptoms will be randomly assigned to the physical activity (PA) group and waitlist (WL) control group. The PA group will receive a 6-week home-based self-defence training programme consisting of 120 min video training (including daily practice time) per week. Self-report questionnaires will be collected at baseline, immediate post-intervention, and 4-week follow up assessments. The primary outcome measure will be the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 to evaluate depression severity. Secondary outcomes will include psychological health symptoms, sleep quality, lifestyle, and quality of life. This research will provide new perspectives on the application of physical activity in the form of self-defence training as an intervention for depressive individuals.

Preventing Internalizing in Preadolescents Exposed to Chronic Stress
Chronic StressAnxiety1 moreRacial and socioeconomic disparities in physical and mental health problems are large, persistent, and severe; begin during childhood; and stem from in part damage to physiologic stress response systems caused by chronic stress. Discovery of ways to prevent and/or halt this progression of damage to a child's stress response system may offer new directions for combatting health disparities. This project will evaluate the efficacy of a new prevention program designed to teach preadolescent children effective ways for coping with chronic stress that will have direct effects on their physiologic stress response systems (hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis) and ultimately prevent onset of anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress symptoms and disorders.

Program AACTIVE: African American's Coming Together to Increase Vital Exercise
Type 2 DiabetesDepressionProgram AACTIVE will enroll 80 African American/Black men with type 2 diabetes and depression. Participants will be randomized to either the intervention arm or the control arm. Participants in the intervention arm will receive talk therapy and physical activity sessions over 12 weeks. Talk therapy and physical activity sessions will take place via a video conferencing platform. There will also be 3 in-person health assessments including baseline, at 12-weeks and 3-month follow up. The investigators are interested in seeing if physical activity and talk therapy improve A1C outcomes and depression symptoms for participants.

Post-Acute COVID-19, Inflammation, and Depression
Post COVID -19 DepressionSingle site, double blind, placebo-controlled, longitudinal study of depression in Subjects with COVID- 19 long haulers syndrome using a 1:1 ratio randomization for a single IV infusion of 6 million cells/kg allogeneic marrow stromal cells (MSCs).
