Strengthening Community Mental Health

Mental HealthEmotional Wellbeing6 more

The goal of this clinical trial is to examine the impact of the Communities Organizing for Power through Empathy (COPE) intervention in adults in communities having recently experienced or at risk of experiencing disaster. The main questions it aims to answer are: How does the COPE intervention affect individual mental health? How does the COPE intervention affect protective factors like coping and social support? How does the COPE intervention affect community resilience? How does delivery of the COPE intervention in partnership with a broad-based organization affect participant recruitment and retention, as well as outcomes? Participants will participate in the three session COPE intervention. Researchers will compare individuals who participate in the COPE intervention to individuals who participate in house meetings to see if the COPE intervention improves mental health, coping, social support and community resilience. Researchers will also examine factors that affect implementation and intervention delivery.

Perinatal Depression and Adverse Childhood Experiences: Prevention Trial

Perinatal Depression

The goal of this clinical trial is to evaluate the impact of ROSE in individuals with adverse childhood experiences. The main question it aims to answer is, compared to enhanced treatment as usual, does the delivery of ROSE within a collaborative care model improve depressive symptom trajectories and prevent the development of perinatal depression. Participants will be randomized to either enhanced treatment as usual or the ROSE intervention, delivered by a care manager within a perinatal collaborative care program. They will complete self-reported surveys of their depression symptoms every 4 weeks to inform their symptom trajectories. They will also complete clinical interviews to establish any incident diagnoses of a major depressive episode.

Pilot Study of Mothers and Babies Online in Home Visiting

Perinatal Depression

The investigators propose a pilot randomized controlled trial (RCT) that examines how the redesigned version of Mothers and Babies Online (eMB) can be delivered in the context of home visiting (HV) programs that serve pregnant individuals and new mothers across the United States. The PI, Dr. Darius Tandon (Northwestern University), has conducted extensive research on the in-person Mothers and Babies (MB) intervention with HV programs and has received interest from one of the largest HV models-Parents as Teachers (PAT)-to explore the use of eMB with pregnant individuals that they serve.

Family Spirit Strengths

Depressive SymptomsAnxiety Disorders and Symptoms2 more

This project addresses the disproportionate morbidity and mortality associated with mental and behavioral health problems in American Indian and Alaska Native communities. Access to culturally competent and effective behavioral health services is limited in many of these communities. The investigators aim to address this gap by testing the effectiveness of a trans-diagnostic secondary prevention program, Family Spirit Strengths (FSS) that can be embedded within home visiting services. The FSS program is a skills-based program that incorporates elements of evidence-based practice, the Common Elements Treatment Approach (CETA), and materials informed and developed based on an Indigenous advisory group. The FSS program aims to help participants build self-efficacy and coping skills, as well as build stronger connections to others, the participants' community, and cultural resources. The investigators will use a randomized controlled trial, whereby half of the participants will receive FSS and the other half will receive an evidence-based nutrition education program. The investigators' study is grounded in participatory processes and led by a team of Indigenous and allied researchers.

Effects of Booster Sessions on Depression Vulnerability Following Cognitive Control Training

Major Depression in Remission

The current study aims to examine the impact of booster sessions of cognitive control training (CCT) on indicators of depression vulnerability. Remitted depressed individuals (RMD) will be randomized over two groups, each receiving 10 sessions of the adaptive Paced Auditory Serial Addition Task, a well-established CCT procedure (Koster et al., 2017; Siegle et al., 2007). During and following completion of the training procedure, functioning will be monitored on a weekly basis over a period of 15 weeks. During this period, one group will be offered booster sessions based on early warning signs for possible recurrence of depression, whilst the other group will not receive booster sessions.

The Neural Underpinnings of Depression and Cannabis Use in Young People Living With HIV

HivDepression1 more

To elucidate mechanisms of substance use disorders (SUD) and comorbid mental illnesses in people living with HIV (PLWH), the investigators propose to investigate reward and pain circuitry in cannabis use and depression comorbidity, two highly prevalent conditions in PLWH. The study will take place in our health system in The Bronx-a persistent epicenter of the HIV epidemic due to profound poverty and health disparities. The focus is on young adults (ages 18-34) to minimize HIV chronicity effects and due to the high rates of SUD and reduced adherence to HIV treatments in this age group; among >31,000 diagnosed young PLWH in The Bronx in 2019, less than 70% had suppressed (<200 copies/mL) viral load (VL).

A Clinical Trial to Determine the Long-term Safety and Tolerability of an Investigational Drug in...

Depressive EpisodesBipolar I Depression

This is a clinical trial to determine the long-term safety and tolerability of an investigational drug in people with Major Depressive Episode Associated with Bipolar I Disorder (Bipolar I Depression). Participants in the study will receive the drug being studied. This study is accepting male and female participants between 18 and 65 years old who have completed Study SEP380-301. This study will be conducted in approximately 90 study centers worldwide. The treatment duration for this study is one (1) year.

The Effect of Auricular Acupressure on the Improvement of Anxiousness, Depression and Heart Rate...

Post-stroke DepressionAuricular Acupressure

Heart rate variability (HRV) in post-stroke patients are closely related to patient mortality, neurological deterioration and overall prognosis. Anxiety and depression will demotivate the patients' will to undergo rehabilitation program, which would delay their functional recovery. The influence of acupressure over the auricle on the HRV, anxiousness and depressive mood have yet to be verified. The investigators aimed to study the effect on auricular acupressure treatment between the different trending of HRV, anxiety and depression and their correlations. This is a randomized control study, consisted of 70 patients with post-stroke depressive mood, from both CGH and Xizhi Cathay hospital in Taiwan. HRV analysis is performed on the first 24 hours, and on a weekly basis for a total of 6 weeks. The included depressed patients were defined by the "Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale" and weekly will be undertaken by the patients. A "Taiwanese Depression Questionnaire" pre-test and after-test will be undertaken by the patients. Experimental group will receive acupressure treatment by the second week, trice daily, 3~5minutes each session for a course of four weeks. Data were analyzed using SPSS 20.0, using generalized estimating equation, GEE. The study hypothesized that the auricular acupressure treatment would improve post-stroke depression. Therefore, participants would be more willing to receive rehabilitation program. Our study would also help to provide future references on related studies.
