Depression Prevention in Older Spousally-bereaved Adults

Depression

Using an indicated prevention approach, investigators propose to enroll 150 spousally-bereaved adults aged 60 years and older in the first 6 months after spousal death who are at high risk for major depression disorder because of subthreshold symptoms of depression. A confirmatory efficacy trial will be conducted in which participants will be randomly assigned to (a) self-monitor sleep, meals, and physical activity for 12 weeks using digital monitoring plus motivational health coaching (WELL; n=75); or (b) enhanced usual care (EUC, usual care plus study assessments, n=75). Objective actigraphic measures of the 24-hour pattern of day and nighttime activity - known as the rest-activity rhythm - will be measured to evaluate circadian rhythms as a mediator of treatment outcomes. Participants will be assessed at baseline, months 1 & 2, post-intervention, and 3, 6,12, 18-months post-intervention. In addition, the investigators will include a subset of participants bereaved by COVID-19 (or suspected as bereaved by COVID-19). Participants in this subset will undergo the same research procedures as the main cohort. Participants in both the main cohort and subset determined to be fully eligible will be randomized into two groups with a total of: usual care (EUC;n=125) and WELL (WELL; n=125).

Ketamine Associated ACC GABA and Glutamate Change and Depression Remission:

Major Depressive DisorderTreatment Resistant Depression1 more

This is a feasibility study and the goal of this project is to evaluate whether peak ACC GABA and glutamate, quantified as a CSF-corrected absolute concentration percent change from baseline, is associated with clinical remission, Montgomery Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) total score of <10, to the anti-glutamatergic antidepressant ketamine. As MRS is expensive, we also aim to study a correlation between change in peripheral metabolites (GABA and glutamate) and central GABA and glutamate levels.

Postpartum Depression and Maternal Attachment

Postpartum DepressionProgressive Muscle Relaxation

In terms of postpartum care and depression, follow-up and controls should be continued online in order not to interrupt the follow-up and treatment of women. In this context, in order to prevent the development of postpartum depression and to increase maternal attachment, it is planned to deliver the progressive muscle relaxation exercise and individual health education program that we planned in our study through online applications. This study will be conducted to evaluate the effect of online health education and progressive muscle relaxation exercise program on postpartum depression and maternal attachment. The study was planned as a parallel randomized controlled experimental study conducted in a Family Health Center in Ankara, with a single-center, stratified block randomization (parity: primiparous, multiparous; EPDS score: 0-9, 10-30).The number of pregnant women to be included in the study was calculated as 56.Personal Information Form, Prenatal Attachment Scale, Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale and Postpartum Attachment Scale will be used to collect data.

Collaborative Stepped-Care and Productive Ageing Program for Older People With Depressive Symptoms...

Depressive Symptoms

The Jockey Club Holistic Support Project for Elderly Mental Wellness (JC JoyAge) has developed and implemented a collaborative stepped care model for older persons at-risk of or with depression in four districts in Hong Kong since 2015 (Clinical Trials Identifier: NCT03593889). Results from JC JoyAge show that the collaborative stepped-care model is effective in improving older persons' mental wellness, and the specialised training and engagement of Peer Supporters are effective in building capacity in the community. The proposed impact extension programme lasts for four years (from 2020 to 2023), and the overall goal is to expand the JC JoyAge model to all 18 districts in Hong Kong, to provide integrated and evidence-based mental health services to older adults with subclinical depressive symptoms, with the hope of model adoption in regular service upon project completion.

Psychostimulant Augmentation of Repetitive TMS for the Treatment of Major Depressive Disorder

Major Depressive Disorder

This study analyzes the affects or Adderall extended-release (XR) in Subjects receiving brain stimulation therapy for the treatment of Major Depressive Disorder. Subjects will be assigned by chance to active or placebo group. Active group will be asked to take one 15 mg pill once daily of Adderall XR (amphetamine) and the Placebo group will be asked take an identical appearing tablet/capsule, one tablet by mouth daily. The placebo tablet has no active ingredients and has no affect on the body or mind. With the exception of the study drug, all other study activities between both groups will be identical. Subjects will use the assigned study drug two weeks before therapy and throughout the first 10 therapy treatments. A total of seven(7) visits will be required for screening, drug assignment, and completion of mood assessments. This study will enroll a total of 30 Subjects.
