Paternal Involvement in Psychiatric Care of Adolescents Managed for Depression or Suicide Attempt...

Psychiatric DisorderDepression3 more

Parental involvement, both quantitative and qualitative, is fundamental for a good psycho-emotional development of the child. The lack of parental involvement and especially paternal involvement significantly promotes the occurrence of behavioral disorders in children and later, in adolescence, the onset of depressive symptomatology. On the other hand, parental involvement has a protective role in the occurrence of behavioral disorders and decreases the risk of suicide attempts in adolescence. The authors of these cohort studies agree on the need for research on the identification of factors determining paternal involvement in order to organize specific prevention actions and targeted interventions to promote the involvement of fathers in psychiatric care of their adolescents. The prevention of adolescent suicide attempts appears to be a real public health issue in Reunion Island with a suicide rate among under-35s twice as high as in Reunion than in metropolitan France. This work is a continuation of the guidelines of good practice of the High Authority of Health (HAS) which insist on the importance of "supporting the parental function by health and public action".

Suicidal Ideation and Behavior in Korean Adolescents With Depression

Depression

The purpose of this study is to examine clinical characteristics of Korean adolescents with depression who have suicidal ideation and behavior. We formulate those hypotheses. Being bullied in peer relationships, excessive use of internet, excessive extra-curricular tutoring, sexual abuse in childhood, physical abuse and emotional neglect are risk factors of suicide in adolescents. Depression of parents and negative child-rearing attitude are risk factors of suicidal ideation and behavior in adolescents. Emotional quotient (EQ) and resilience of adolescent are protective factors of suicide.

Genetic and Neural Predictors of Adolescent Depression

Major Depressive Disorder

This study aims to examine the relationship between mood and brain activity in adolescent girls in order to better understand the genetic and neural predictors of adolescent depression. The participants in this study will be healthy female adolescents aged 12-14 and their mothers. They will participate for a total of six months. Adolescent participants will have three study sessions at McLean Hospital, and during two of them, their mothers will also have assessments. Adolescent assessments will include interviews, questionnaires, computer tasks, and collection of a saliva sample for genetic analyses. Their second study visit will include an fMRI scan. Parent assessments will include an interview, questionnaires, and a computer task.

Can Oxytocin Level Predict Postpartum Depression?

Postpartum Depression

The goal of this research study is to understand the relationship between the hormone oxytocin and postpartum mood. Based on previous research, the investigators hypothesize that lower plasma oxytocin concentration during pregnancy will predict a greater likelihood of postpartum depression. Second, it is expected that oxytocin concentration in the third trimester will show an inverse relationship with the severity of depressive symptoms at 4 - 6 weeks postpartum. Potential participants in the study will be screened for eligibility during their third trimester of pregnancy, using a combination of questionnaires. Those who are eligible for participation will have one blood sample drawn at this time, and then be asked to complete a follow up questionnaire at 4-6 weeks postpartum to assess for depressive mood symptoms. This follow up questionnaire can be completed either in person or on the telephone. Anyone who is interested in receiving help for their mood at any point in the study will receive referrals.

Medibio Depression Monitoring Study

DepressionBipolar3 more

An objective measure of treatment response could be a valuable new tool in the armamentarium of depression management, and this holds true for stimulation-based and pharmacological therapies alike. Hence, the Medibio Depression Monitoring Study will use the Medibio analytics platform to characterize autonomic, circadian, and sleep patterns before and during the initial 8 weeks of pharmacologic therapy for moderate-to-severe depression. The study will also explore any differences in these measures between treatment responders and non-responders, and between depression subtypes, including bipolar and unipolar depression. The study will also characterize longitudinal, ambulatory EEG measures throughout the observation period.
