REASSURE: The Effect of Rimonabant on HbA1c in Overweight or Obese Patients With Type 2 Diabetes...

Diabetes MellitusType 2

Primary: To assess the effects of rimonabant on HbA1c in patients with Type 2 diabetes who are overweight or obese (Body Mass Index (BMI) > 27 kg/m² and BMI < 40 kg/m²), have uncontrolled HbA1c (7.0% - 9.0% inclusive) and are currently on maximal tolerated doses of two Oral Anti Diabetic medications - Metformin (Met) and Sulfonylurea (SU). Secondary: To assess the effects of rimonabant on Anthropometric measures, Glucose measures, Lipid measures, Other measures and changes in quality of life

Effects of Metformin Hydrochloride (HCl) in Combination With Colesevelam HCl, Compared to Metformin...

Type 2 Diabetes MellitusHypercholesterolemia1 more

This is a 16-week double-blind, placebo-controlled (for colesevelam hydrochloride (HCl)) study in the type 2 diabetic subjects and pre-diabetic subjects. Diabetic participants will also be treated with open label, background, metformin HCl. Two-hundred sixty subjects with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and 200 pre-diabetic subjects are planned to be be enrolled. Qualified subjects with T2DM will be randomized 1:1 to receive metformin HCl plus colesevelam HCl or metformin HCl plus placebo matching colesevelam HCl. Qualified pre-diabetic subjects will be randomized 1:1 to receive colesevelam HCl or matching placebo.

Effect of High Monounsaturated Fat Diet on Glycemic Control and Cardiovascular Risk Factors in Type...

OverweightObesity1 more

The purpose of this proposed randomized, controlled trial is to compare the effects of high monounsaturated fat diets and high carbohydrate diets on body weight, body composition, glycemic control, plasma lipids, and other cardiovascular risk factors over a period of one year. At present, no such studies of free-living subjects have been performed. The specific aims of the proposed project are to test the hypotheses that (1) a high monounsaturated fat diet will produce greater weight loss/body fat loss and more successful weight maintenance than a high carbohydrate diet and (2) a high monounsaturated fat diet will result in an improved lipid profile and better glycemic control than a high carbohydrate diet.

Effects of Fatty Acid Delivery on Heart Metabolism and Function in Type 2 Diabetes (T2DM

Diabetes MellitusType II

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a disease that interferes with the body's proper production and use of insulin, a hormone needed to convert sugar into usable energy. People with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) are at a higher risk for certain cardiovascular diseases, including heart disease and stroke. Normal treatments for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) target blood sugar levels only, but there is reason to believe that also targeting blood fat levels will improve both sugar metabolism and heart function in people with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, (T2DM.) This study will determine the effectiveness of blood-fat lowering treatments along with blood-sugar control treatments in improving heart function and symptoms of people with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus(T2DM), and if this varies between men and women.

Adiponectin in Obese Women With T2DN and Effects by RAS Blocker

ObeseType 2 Diabetes3 more

Insulin resistance typically characterizes type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and prediabetic states and is the prominent feature of the metabolic syndrome.Adiponectin plays an important part in glucose metabolism, insulin resistance, the deterioration of renal function.we hypothesize there is a difference serum adiponectin levels between obese and non-obese women with type 2 diabetic nephropathy. Furthermore, these two groups would respond difference to the RAs blocker(Losartan).

Vitamin C and Cardiovascular Risk

AtherosclerosisType 2 Diabetes

Study Goal #1: Determine the optimal oral dose of vitamin C to reduce surrogate markers of atherosclerosis (blockages in blood vessels) following the consumption of an atherogenic high fat lunch in type 2 diabetic individuals. Study Goal #2: After conducting the original study, we found that vitamin E was not effective in reducing the markers of oxidative stress, hypercoagulation, inflammation, and metabolic parameters in patients with type 2 diabetes. To date, data from randomized trials have largely demonstrated no significant benefit of vitamin E supplementation on the prevention of primary and/or secondary cardiovascular disease as once thought. Therefore, we decided to amend our current protocol to add a Part B to study only the effects of vitamin C at the following doses: 500 mg, 1000 mg, and 2000 mg daily (and include a placebo arm, as well.
