The TCF7L2 Gene: Dietary Prevention of T2DM

Type2 DiabetesGlucose1 more

Nutrients and chemicals in food are able to regulate expression of genetic elements. Gene-nutrient interaction in response specific diets can increase an individual's risk, shifting the individual from health toward the development of chronic disease. The Transcription Factor 7 Like 2 (TCF7L2) gene may either put individuals at risk for or protect from Type 2 diabetes mellitus in the presence of certain foods. The main purpose of this four-week study is to examine diet-induced gene-nutrient interaction, with a focus on glucose, insulin, inflammation (CRP) and the plasma metabolome in individuals who have either the CC or the TT form of the rs7903146 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) (C/T) within the TCF7L2 gene. The (2) one-week study diets, one Mediterranean diet (MedDiet) based and the other low-fat based will be separated by a (1) week return to a regular habitual diet.

Integrated Hypertension and Diabetes Mellitus Type II Treatment and Care Among People Living With...

Diabetes MellitusHypertension1 more

This project was a facility-based program intervention for People Living with HIV (PLHIV) aged 18 years and above who attended a Care and Treatment Center (CTC) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Clients received preventive, diagnostic, and treatment services for Hypertension (HTN) and Type Two Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). The primary health outcomes were all-cause mortality, disease-specific morbidity, HTN, and T2DM control rates. Secondary outcomes included access to care, retention in care adherence, and quality of care. Results obtained can be used to strengthen Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) care delivery in HIV/AIDS care in CTC in Tanzania.

Detection of Visual-Auditory Reaction Rates in Individuals With Type 2 Diabetes

Diabetes MellitusType 22 more

Background: The primary purpose of our study was to understand the damage in the peripheral nerves of patients with diabetes and to determine the change in patients' reaction rates and perceptions by the age groups, duration of diabetes, fasting plasma glucose and HbA1c values, and compare these with those of the healthy individuals. Methods: This study was carried out at the Baskent University Hospital Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases Outpatient Clinic. A total of 64 patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and 64 healthy controls were included in the study. Finger tapping, visual, and auditory reaction time tests were performed on the subjects, respectively. The subjects' fasting plasma glucose and HbA1c levels, and the duration of their diabetes were recorded. Analyses were performed using the SPSS version 25. Differences were considered statistically significant when the p-value is <0.05.

Diabetes MellitusType 2

The purpose of the study is to collect information on how Xultophy® works in patients like them with type 2 diabetes. Participants will get Xultophy® as prescribed to them by the study doctor. The study will last for about 18 months. Participants will be asked questions about their health and diabetes treatment as part of the normal study doctor's appointment.

A Study to Learn More About Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus...

Type 2 Diabetes MellitusChronic Kidney Disease

In this observational study, data from the recent past of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and chronic kidney disease will be studied. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a condition in which the body does not make enough of a hormone called insulin or does not use insulin well. This results in high blood sugar levels. About half of people with T2DM also have a condition called chronic kidney disease (CKD). In people with CKD, the kidneys' ability to work as how it should decreases over time. In this study, researchers want to learn more about the CKD in T2DM patients in Alberta, Canada. This will help them to know the chances to improve the care of these patients. The researchers will look at the health information from adult men and women in Alberta who were diagnosed with T2DM before 2018 and visited a doctor to have check-ups in 2018. They will find out about how many of these people had CKD and how severe their CKD was. The researchers will collect data about the age and gender of these patients, how long they had T2DM and if they had other related medical problems. The researchers will also learn how these patients were treated based on their kidney condition and how much money was spent on these treatments. This study will collect information from the health records of about 270,000 patients with T2DM who were living in Alberta, Canada. This information will come from the Alberta Kidney Disease Network (AKDN) database. Besides this data collection, no further tests or examinations are planned in this study.

Pilot Study Among Type 2 Diabetes Patients Investigating the Effects of Computerized Cognitive and...

Diabetes MellitusType 2

The purpose of this study is to assess the cognitive benefits of combined physical activity and cognitive training on cognitive health compare to physical activity or cognitive training programs singly administrated among type 2 diabetes. Two group in cross over will take part in either physical activity only (for the first one) or cognitive training only (for the second one) for one month then the other way around during the second month. A fallow up will be administrated 3 months later.

Are Diabetics Type 2 More Prone to Dental Caries?

Diabetes MellitusType 21 more

Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is well known for long-term complications to general and oral health. Periodontal disease has a bidirectional association with the development of type 2 diabetes (T2DM) (Mealey, 2006; Taylor, 2001; Demmer et el.,2008). However, current literature conflicts with regards to dental caries incidence in patients with T2DM (Sampaio, Mello and Alves, 2011). Objective: To investigate potential protective and risk factors for dental caries among T2DM with vitamin D and HbA1c using clinical, salivary and microbial analyses. Methods: This project is a case-control clinical study. The study will be conducted at Royal London Dental Hospital, Institute of Dentistry, Bart's Health NHS Trust, London, UK. This study will aim to recruit 182 participants in total with diabetes (type 2), aged ≥18 male or female and participants will be cross-matched with non-diabetes according to age and gender. Each participant will undergo a baseline screening for around 60 minutes where all the following assessments will be carried out; Caries risk assessment (CAMBRA), Plaque index, International Caries Detection and Assessment System (ICDAS) and Laser fluorescence evaluator (SOPRLIFE®, Acteon, France) and Oral behavioural and sociodemographic background will be collected. Prior to the clinical study, there will be a laboratory based study using extracted teeth. The aim of this ex-vivo study is to assess the autofluorescence variation in dental carious lesions and compare this with International Caries Detection and Assessment System (ICDAS).
