Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Although the efficacy and safety profile of exenatide has been well established, few data exist on the real world results of exenatide treatment in specific populations and clinical settings. This study is intended to fill this gap through observing and collecting prospective data from a population of Italian patients initiating treatment with either exenatide or basal insulin formulations after failure to achieve glycemic control with oral antihyperglycemic agents (OHA). Observational studies represent noninterventional research; therefore, this study does not involve randomization of patients to particular comparator arms or therapies. The term "noninterventional" means that the healthcare providers decisions regarding the proper treatment and care of the patient are made in the course of normal clinical practice. Patients enrolled in this study are enrolling for the collection of their data on observations made during normal clinical practice.

The objectives of this survey are: 1) To examine the safety/efficacy profile of Januvia in Korean participants, and 2) To identify factors that might have an influence on the safety and efficacy profile of Januvia in Korean participants. Post-marketing surveys are not considered applicable clinical trials and thus the results of this survey will not be posted at its conclusion. The results will be submitted to public health officials as required by applicable national and international laws.

Pilot Study Assessing Insulin Pump Therapy in Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 Diabetes

16-week, open-label, multi-center pilot study. Insulin pump naïve subjects with type 2 diabetes who are not achieving glycemic targets (screening A1C ≥ 7.0%) on an established regimen of either: 1) ≥ 2 OAs (Cohort A), 2) basal insulin ± OAs (Cohort B), or 3) basal-bolus insulin ± OAs (Cohort C) will initiate basal-bolus therapy with an insulin pump using a rapid-acting insulin analog.

Diabetes is a leading cause of death in the Western World with medical costs increasing annually. There is no cure for diabetes, and blood glucose monitoring is a key component in diabetes treatment and management. Self-monitoring of blood glucose levels is essential to the self-management of diabetes and has become widespread over the past decade. Blood glucose determinations are currently done by invasive methods (finger tip pricking), followed by measuring the blood drop characteristics. The purpose of this trail is to demonstrate the performance and use of GlucoTrack device in measuring blood glucose levels. The rationale for development of the device is to improve the patient's quality of life by providing a device that is easily used and provides a painless measurement method, thereby leading to higher compliance, and to better managed diabetes

Situational Problem Solving in Adolescents With Type 2 Diabetes: Enhancing a Randomized Controlled...

Adolescents With Type 2 Diabetes

The proposed research will test a new comprehensive disease management intervention with adolescents who have type 2 diabetes using a randomized controlled trial (RCT). Adolescents subjects with a history of Type 2 Diabetes and a parent caregiver will be consented, enrolled, and randomly assigned to either an 6-month intervention (N=44) or a "usual care" comparison (N=44). Recruitment will take place within the Vanderbilt Eskind Pediatric Diabetes Clinic. The intervention will include participation in a comprehensive disease management program that includes: (1) application of treatment algorithms, (2) phone assessment from a diabetes nurse practitioner and dietician to assess barriers and promote problem solving, treatment adherence and management, and (3) a behavioral Internet-administered self-management problem solving component. Outcomes include self-reported self-management behaviors (exercise, diet, medication adherence, etc.), blood pressure, weight/BMI, and glycated hemoglobin (A1C).

People with chronic low-grade inflammation have a higher risk for certain diseases such as cardiovascular disease or type 2 diabetes. While it is known that obese people are more likely to show signs of low-grade inflammation than lean individuals, it is unclear what causes this inflammation. In the proposed study, the investigators will examine whether the sugar fructose, when consumed in a sweetened beverage, triggers low-grade inflammation in healthy men and women compared with other caloric sweeteners.

Background: Nurses in clinical practice implement care to patients with Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2) in order to maintain normal blood glucose readings, promote weight loss and provide nutrition counseling to improve metabolic and blood pressure control. Because many disciplines contribute to patient's health outcomes, it is important to distinguish how nurses contribute to patient care and the achievement of health outcomes and the differences between the use or not the classification of Nursing Diagnoses, and the Nursing Interventions Classification (NIC) in clinical practice settings. Methods: Prospective observational study with 2-year follow-up to assess the effect of Nursing Care Plans based on Scientific Methodology (NCPSM) on changing the control parameters in routine clinical practice conditions. Settings: 31 Primary care centers in northeastern urban area of Madrid (Spain). Subjects: 24,124 DM2 patients (full universe).
