Patient and Parent Preferences for an On-Body Automated Insulin Delivery System

Diabetes MellitusType 1

The goal of this study is to learn more about patient and family preferences regarding use of advanced diabetes technologies. Young persons with type 1 diabetes (ages 8-25) and parents of young persons with type 1 diabetes will complete one study visit involving a semi-structured interview and surveys. The results of the study will be used to assist in the design of a new automated insulin delivery system.

Incidence of Retinopathy and Associated Risk Factors in Children and Young Adults With Type 1 Diabetes...

Type 1 DiabetesDiabetic Retinopathy

The objective of this study is to clarify the current diabetic status, including development of complications, in a nationwide cohort of type 1 diabetics, who were last examined together in a large study in 1995. These youngsters were originally participating in a nationwide study of children with type 1 diabetes in Denmark back in 1986. The investigators will try to establish risk factors for developing diabetic retinopathy. The investigators will have emphasis on retinal vessel geometry and the possibilities for early detection of reversible retinal changes, and prediction of other vascular complications.

Long Term Effects of Diabetes of Very Young Children

Type 1 Diabetes

To investigate neurocognitive and behavioral measures in 25 children aged 6-10 years diagnosed with diabetes for > 5 years who have received long-term insulin pump therapy (> 3 years) compared to a group of children matched for age, sex, glycemic control, and diabetes duration treated with insulin injections. Outcome measures will assess: clinical variables, cognitive status (intelligence, neuropsychological functioning), academic achievement, behavior, parenting stress, and quality of life. It is hypothesized that long term insulin pump therapy initiated during early childhood can delay the progression of neurocognitive complications of diabetes, decrease parental stress, and improve school performance and quality of life, as compared to insulin injections.
