Neuropsychological and Neuroanatomical Studies of Young Children With and Without Type 1 Diabetes...
Type 1 Diabetes MellitusThis study is being conducted to see if Type 1 diabetes mellitus has any affect on learning, behavior and development in young children and whether there are associated changes on their MRI scan.
Gene Expression Profiling in Type 1 Diabetes
Type 1 Diabetes MellitusOne of the goals of the Kansas City Diabetes Consortium is to identify and characterize genes and their products that are associated with T1DM. Characterization of such genes and their products can aid in developing new tools for risk assessment, development of new prevention strategies and monitoring progression of disease. Study design: Descriptive, basic science pilot study. The results of this pilot study will be used to help design a much larger study to address the importance of viral response and autoimmune diabetes.
The Effect of Insulin During Exercise on the Development of Low Blood Sugar in Individuals With...
Diabetes MellitusType IMost children with type 1 diabetes have a drop in the blood sugar during exercise. This drop in the blood sugar can result in hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). In children using an insulin pump, there is an opportunity to reduce the basal insulin rate during exercise. This study is being conducted to determine if decreasing the insulin that is received during exercise will reduce the risk of hypoglycemia. We hope to learn more about how the body responds to hypoglycemia and to hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) when it occurs. As part of the study, children will have a visit on two different days. During each visit, children will exercise on a treadmill for about 60 minutes. During one of the visits, the children's basal rate will be continued during the exercise. During one visit, the basal insulin will be stopped. The blood sugar will be checked frequently during the exercise.
Prevalence of Vertebral Fractures in Patients With Type 1 Diabetes
Diabetes MellitusType 12 moreBackground : Type 1 diabetes is associated with an increased risk of fractures. The mechanisms accounting for this bone fragility are not yet fully understood. The lower bone mineral density (BMD) observed in individuals with type 1 diabetes cannot solely explain the higher fracture incidence. Bone microarchitecture defects significantly contribute to bone fragility. Few studies assessed spine fractures in type 1 diabetes. This cross-sectional multicenter case-control study aims (1) to evaluate the prevalence of asymptomatic vertebral fractures in individuals with type 1 diabetes in comparison to age- and sex-matched healthy controls; (2) to compare individuals with diabetes with vertebral fractures and those without vertebral fracture using clinical, biochemical and radiological parameters.
Low Carbohydrate Diet, Glycaemic Control and Quality of Life in Australian Adults With Type 1 Diabetes...
Type 1 Diabetes MellitusThe aim of this study is to examine the association between a low carbohydrate diet, quality of life and glycaemic control in Australian adults with T1DM. The first phase of the study will develop and validate a diabetes specific quality of life questionnaire for adults with T1DM. The second phase will undertake a low carbohydrate diet intervention and examine its association with quality of life and glycaemic control, pre and post the dietary intervention. The novel outcomes will include a new validated Australian T1DM specific quality of life questionnaire and an investigation as to whether a low carbohydrate diet mediates the relationship between quality of life and glycaemic control in Australian adults with T1DM.
Preclinical Cardiomyopathy and Autonomic Function in Type 1 Diabetes
Diabetes MellitusType 13 moreType 1 diabetes mellitus is a chronic autoimmune disease, associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases. The development of cardiomyopathy in type 1 diabetes, independent of hypertension and coronary heart disease, is still controversial. A possible mechanism for diabetic cardiomyopathy is autonomic dysfunction. This study aims to evaluate cardiac function and structure, and to relate them with autonomic dysfunction in type 1 diabetes.
Adherence to Guidelines VAccination in Type 1 DIabetes Mellitus Patients (AVADI-2)
Type 1 DiabetesObservational study about adherence to guidelines for Covid-19, Influenza, Pneumococcal and Hepatitis B Vaccination in adult patients with type 1 Diabetes mellitus.
T1D, Metabolic Syndrome and Insulin Resistance
Type 1 DiabetesMetabolic Syndrome1 morePatients with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and metabolic syndrome (MS) require high doses of insulin to achieve a glycemic control, due to insulin resistance (IR). The investigators identified the presence of metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance in patients with T1D in a population of southeast Mexico. The sampled population was recruited from the Diabetes Clinic of the Regional Hospital of High Specialty "Dr. Gustavo A. Rovirosa Pérez"; from August 2021 to February 2022, graduated physicians interviewed patients previously diagnosed with T1D. This study included patients older than 18 years and at least six months after being diagnosed with T1D. The interviewers excluded patients who did not attend regular consultations and those who did not agree to participate or to give a blood sample. A diabetologist evaluated and diagnosed all patients based on the World Health Organization (WHO) criteria. Fasting glucose, total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triacylglycerols were determined in blood serum using a Clinical Chemistry System from Random Access Diagnostics. The reasearch team determined glycated hemoglobin concentrations by an enzymatic immunoassay method.
YpsoPump Occlusion Detection Algorithm: Collection of Real-world Data for In-silico Evaluation of...
Diabetes MellitusType 1A common difficulty related to the insulin pumps are occlusions of the insulin infusion set (IIS). This study aims to evaluate the performance of a new software algorithm to detect catheter-occlusion in silico in order to refine the current automated occlusion detection algorithm of the mylife™ YpsoPump®.
Changes in Arterial Stiffness and Endothelial Glycocalyx in Patients With Poorly Controlled Diabetes...
Diabetes MellitusArterial stiffness is associated with increased risk for cardiovascular disease. Moreover, the integrity of endothelial glycocalyx plays a vital role in vascular permeability, inflammation and elasticity. The purpose of this study is to investigate changes in arterial stiffness and endothelial glycocalyx thickness in patients with poorly controlled diabetes mellitus type 1 or type 2 after glycemic control by optimal medication.
