The aim of this clinical trial is to investigate the blood sugar lowering effect and the safety profile of biphasic insulin aspart 30 compared to biphasic human insulin 30, both in combination with metformin in Chinese insulin-naive subjects with type 2 diabetes when failing on oral antidiabetic drug (OAD) therapy.

Autologous Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation for Early Onset Type 1 Diabetes

This is a phase II trial in individuals who have been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes within the previous 6 months. The study is evaluating whether stem cell transplantation is safe when chemotherapy and immunotherapy are used in combination and if it has immune resetting effect that may halt the immune attack to pancreas islets and thus preserve the body's own insulin production.

A Study of the Effect of Taspoglutide on Gastric Emptying in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes

Diabetes Mellitus Type 2

This 3 arm, placebo-controlled study will investigate the effect of Taspoglutide on gastric emptying in patients with type 2 diabetes. Patients will be randomized into one of 3 groups to receive a)10mg Taspoglutide sc weekly for 12 weeks b)10mg Taspoglutide sc weekly for 4 weeks followed by 20mg Taspoglutide sc weekly for 8 weeks or c) placebo sc weekly for 12 weeks, with all injections administered in the abdomen.Gastric emptying will be assessed by a paracetamol test at intervals during the study. The anticipated time on study treatment is 3 months, and the target sample size is <100 individuals.

This study was the extension of the LANTU_C_02761 study named EASIE and identified as NCT00751114 (core study comparing insulin glargine versus sitagliptin in insulin-naïve patients treated with metformin and not adequately controlled). All patients with Glycosylated Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) ≥ 7% at the end of the core study had the possibility to enter this extension study if they met the other inclusion criteria and did not present with any exclusion criteria. The visit 14 of the core study (week 24) was the visit 1 (baseline, week 0) of the extension study which consisted of a 12-week treatment period. The objectives of this extension study were: To assess the glycemic control (HbA1c <7%) of a 3-month combination therapy with metformin, insulin glargine and sitagliptin in patients not adequately controlled by a previous treatment with metformin plus either insulin glargine or sitagliptin. To assess the effect of insulin glargine in combination with sitagliptin on HbA1c level, fasting plasma glucose, 7-point glucose profile, hypoglycemia occurrence, body weight and overall safety.

Bone Marrow Autotransplantation in Type 1 Diabetes

This project evaluates the effectiveness of the administration of autologous bone marrow blood in patients with brittle type 1 diabetes mellitus to restore insulin secretion. After mobilization of hematopoietic progenitors (G-CSF) during 3 days, 50 to 90 mL of bone marrow blood will be obtained by multifunction in the posterior iliac crest. The material obtained will be implanted into the pancreas through the magna pancreatic artery after femoral catheterization.

Diabetes Mellitus Type 2

This 4 arm study will assess the efficacy, safety and tolerability of taspoglutide compared to sitagliptin and placebo in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus inadequately controlled with metformin. Patients will be randomized to receive taspoglutide (10mg once weekly or 10mg once weekly for 4 weeks followed by 20mg once weekly), sitagliptin 100mg once daily or placebo, in a ratio of 2:2:2:1, in addition to their continued prestudy metformin treatment. After 24 weeks of treatment, patients on active treatment will continue on the same treatment and patients on placebo will be switched to taspoglutide 10mg once weekly or taspoglutide 20mg once weekly (after 4 weeks of taspoglutide 10mg once weekly). The anticipated time on study treatment is 2+ years, and the target sample size is 500+ individuals.
