GOS to Reduce Symptom Severity in IBS

Irritable Bowel SyndromeIrritable Bowel Syndrome - Constipation2 more

IBS is a highly prevalent bowel disorder, characterized by recurrent abdominal pain during bowel movements or a change in bowel habits. Typically, IBS patients experience constipation, diarrhoea or a mix of constipation and diarrhoea, as well as symptoms of abdominal bloating or distension. The chronic and bothersome nature of IBS symptoms negatively affects the quality of life of many patients. Because there are currently limited medical treatment options for IBS, it is important to study new treatments. IBS can (in part) be caused by an 'imbalance' of the bacteria residing in the intestinal tract. For instance, there may be a lower proportion of specific bacteria that are generally considered beneficial for a persons health. The consumption of non-digestible food ingredients, such as GOS, may stimulate the growth of these beneficial bacteria. GOS is a type of 'prebiotic', which is known to support health and wellbeing of consumers. By restoring the bacterial balance of the intestinal tract, the symptoms of IBS may be reduced after consumption of GOS. The health effects of the study product (a specific GOS) used in current study was previously investigated in a small group of patients with IBS. Use of the study product indicated a reduction in the patients' symptoms, improvement in the patients' quality of life, and changes in patients' gut bacteria. It is therefore hypothesized that GOS / a specific GOS may reduce the symptom severity of patients with IBS. This study further evaluates how GOS may improve symptoms of IBS.

Fecal Microbiota Transplantation in Treating Immune-Checkpoint Inhibitor Induced-Diarrhea or Colitis...

ColitisDiarrhea7 more

This trial studies how well fecal microbiota transplantation works in treating diarrhea or colitis (inflammation of the intestines) that is caused by certain types of medications (called immune-checkpoint inhibitors) in patients with genitourinary cancer. Fecal microbiota transplantation may effectively reduce the incidence of immune checkpoint inhibitor-induced diarrhea/colitis.

GI Permeability Change in Response to Aquamin®

Ulcerative ColitisHealthy1 more

This trial is being completed to learn about how Aquamin® affects gastrointestinal permeability, or the control of material passing from inside the gastrointestinal tract through the gut wall into the rest of the body, in people with ulcerative colitis (UC), Irritable Bowel Syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D), and in healthy individuals.

Efficacy and Safety of Modified Gegen Qinlian Decoction for Diarrhea-predominant Irritable Boewl...

Diarrhea-predominant Irritable Boewl Syndrome

Diarrhea-predominant irritable boewl syndrome(IBS-D) seriously affect the quality of life in patients. Clinically, it is effective to apply therapeutic method of clearing heat and promoting diuresis to the common syndrome of dampness-heat. Dysbiosis of intestinal microbiota is closely related to the immune imbalance and intestinal mucosal barrier injury. C1orf106/CYTH-1/ARF6 signal pathway, which derive from intestinal micro environment changes,is the mainly cause of intestinal mucosal barrier injury, and this is may be the common pathogenesis of dampness-heat syndrome in IBS-D . Based on the clinic, the project is to study the effect and mechanism of Chinese compound formula of clearing heat and promoting dieresis in modulating intestinal microbiota dysbiosis, repairing intestinal mucosal barrier and reconstructing intestinal microenvironment. With the combination of metagenomics and metabonomics, the study compare the differences of co-metabolites of intestinal microbiota and host within the healthy people, IBS-D patients with dampness-heat syndrome, to explore the relevance between intestinal flora and host co-metabolites. Furthermore, the experimental study is to clarify the drug targets via C1orf106/ CYTH-1/ARF6 signal pathway.Through the study of association between dampness-heat syndrome in IBS-D and intestinal microbiota, it is of important academic significance to reveal the Chinese theory intension of "homotherapy for heteropathy ".

Glutamine Plus L. Reuteri Prevents TKI Therapy-diarrhea in Patients With NSCLC

Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer With EGFR Mutation

This open-label randomized clinical trial aims to evaluate the glutamine plus Lactobacillus reuteri supplementation effect in a standard-of-care diet in EGFR mutant patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) under tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) therapy. The main question it aims to answer is ¿What is the effect of glutamine plus L. reuteri added to an astringent diet in preventing diarrhea generated by TKI therapy? Patients will receive an astringent diet supplemented with 10 grams of glutamine and L. reuteri (100 million CFU). Researchers will compare the Glutamine plus L. reuteri diet with a standard astringent diet to see if TKI therapy diarrhea is prevented.
