Mat Pilates Method in the Treatment of Women With Fibromyalgia
FibromyalgiaPrimaryIntroduction: Physical exercises have been recommended to improve overall well-being in patients with fibromyalgia, with the main goal of repairing the effects of lack of physical conditioning, and improving symptoms especially pain and fatigue. Very well estimated and widely known are the studies that support the use of the pilates method as effective in improving the symptoms of the disease. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of the soil method in improving pain in women with fibromyalgia in the city of Santa Cruz, RN. Methodology: This is a randomized controlled trial with blind evaluator, where 60 patients with fibromyalgia diagnosis are divided into two groups. The intervention group, perform an exercise program based on the pilates method in soil and another, considered control group, participate in a program of aerobic exercises in the pool. Both groups conduct supervised exercise programs 2 times a week for a period of 12 weeks. The evaluation instruments used in an EVA (visual pain scale); FIQ Questionnaire - Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire; Functional ability by the "Timed Up and Go" test and 6-minute walk test; A quality of sleep by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI-BR) and an ESS-BR (Epworth Sleepiness Scale); Finally, a general quality of life for the SF-36. Statistical analysis: Data are analyzed by t-student, Mann-Whitney test, repeated-measures ANOVA and intention-to-treat analysis.

FibromyalgiaChronic PainInvestigators are seeking to determine the effects of CBT, anodal tDCS over left DLPFC, and combined CBT+ tDCS on clinical pain and functioning among a sample of patients with fibromyalgia. This study will be the first randomized, double-blind, controlled study of tDCS technology as an adjunctive pain management strategy for fibromyalgia pain. Data from this trial will likely yield information regarding the feasibility and efficacy of tDCS+CBT as a chronic pain-management approach.
A Study of the Effect of Rhythmic Sensory Stimulation on Fibromyalgia
FibromyalgiaFibromyalgia is a chronic pain disorder associated with widespread pain that dramatically impacts patient's quality of life. The present research aims to determine the effectiveness of Rhythmic Sensory Stimulation with rhythmic gamma-frequency (30 - 120 Hz) acoustic-driven stimulation of mechanoreceptors in the body on the treatment of fibromyalgia. The proposed treatment involves 30 minutes of daily rhythmic vibroacoustic stimulation at gamma range, 5 days per week, for 5 weeks. Measures of pain severity, fibromyalgia symptoms, sleep quality, and depression, will be compared before and after treatment between the treatment and control groups. The results of the present study will help to better understand the effectiveness of Rhythmic Sensory Stimulation to the treatment of chronic pain disorders, such as fibromyalgia, and contribute to the development of future studies to investigate the neural driving effects of therapies based on Rhythmic Sensory Stimulation.

Stretching and Strengthening Exercise in Fibromyalgia Patients
Fibromyalgia SyndromeFibromyalgia is a rheumatologic syndrome characterized by widespread chronic pain, tender points and other symptoms as fatigue, sleep disturbances, anxiety and depression. Therapeutic exercises are described as an important form to management of symptoms. This study aims to assess strengthening and stretching exercise efficacy in symptoms and quality of life of Fibromyalgia patients. The study is done at General Clinical Hospital of Medicine Scholl of University of Sao Paulo. 63 subjects undergo the study and they are divided into three groups: 1 strengthening exercise, 2 stretching exercise and 3 control group. Patients are evaluated by following instruments: Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire, Medical Outcomes Study 36-item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36), Stanford Health Assessment Questionnaire, dolorimetry at tender points by a Fischer dolorimeter, finger-to-tip floor test for muscular flexibility, dynamometer EMG System do Brasil for strength test of extension and flexion of knees and elbows, time to get up and go test, functional reach test, sit-to-stand test. Subjects of 1 strengthening exercise group undergo a global strengthening program and 2 stretching exercise group undergo a global stretching program. All programs have 12 weeks of duration and physical therapy is twice a week. The control group does not do any intervention during 12 weeks and after the second evaluation they enter the common program of physical therapy. Data are being analyzed by descriptive and interferential statistics procedures.
Effectiveness of Dance on Patients With Fibromyalgia
FibromyalgiaThe aim of the present study is to assess the effectiveness of belly dance as a treatment for pain and improving the quality of life of patients with fibromyalgia. Eighty female patients with fibromyalgia between 18 to 65 years were randomly allocated to a dance group (n=40) and control group (n=40). Patients in the dance group underwent 16 weeks of belly dance twice a week, while the patients in the control group remained on a waiting list. Patients were evaluated with regard to pain (Visual Analogue Scale), function (6 minute walk test), quality of life (Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire and SF-36), depression (Beck Inventory), anxiety (State-Trait Anxiety Inventory) and self-image (Body Dysmorphic Disorder Examination) questionnaire. Evaluations were carried out at baseline, after 16 weeks and after 32 weeks.
