Effect of Duration of Symptoms on the Clinical and Functional Outcomes of Lumbar Microdiscectomy...

Lumbar Disc Herniation

97 patients in 3 randomized groups were treated by Microdiscectomy for lumbar disc herniation; Group A was operated at 6 weeks of symptoms, Group B at 3 months and group C at 6 months. These patients were followed for 3 years for the clinical and functional outcomes.

Chronic Low Back Pain (CLBP)Intervertebral Disc Displacement

ZetrOZ's Ultrasonic Diathermy device is intended for use as a portable and wearable medical device which, when applied to various areas of the body applies Low Intensity Therapeutic Ultrasound (LITUS) to deep tissues. This device is FDA-cleared for pain reduction, treatment of muscle spasm and joint contracture, and increasing local circulation. This study will look at the use of therapeutic ultrasound to relieve pain and reduce disability in subjects with chronic low back pain, a subset of which will have chronic low back pain due to a herniated disc, over an 8-week treatment period.

Evaluation of Fusion Rate of Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF) Using Cervios ChronOs™...

Intervertebral Disk DegenerationIntervertebral Disk Displacement1 more

Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) has shown good treatment results for a variety of cervical spine diseases such as herniated intervertebral disc (HIVD), cervical spondylotic radiculopathy (CSR) and cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM). ACDF using autogenous iliac bone graft is gold standard, however, it may lead to donor-site morbidities. Preventing these complications, some authors have tried to use alterative bone graft substitutes. Among these alternatives, Cervios ChronOs™ which is the polyetheretherketone (PEEK) cage with b-tricalcium phosphate (TCP) has become popular and shown good clinical results. However, b-TCP has only osteoconduction ability of three osteogenic properties. Recently, Bonion™ which is the PEEK cage filled with hydroxyapatite (HA) / demineralized bone matrix (DBM) is introduced. HA/DBM mixture has abilities of osteoconduction and osteoinduction, therefore this alternative is expected to show superior bone fusion capability to PEEK cage with b-TCP. However, there has been no comparison study between the PEEK cage with b-TCP and the PEEK cage with HA/DBM. The purpose of this study is to evaluate bone fusion rate between these cervical spine cages using postoperative computed tomography (CT)

Decompression With ELDOA on Lumbar Disc Protrusion Patient

Lumbar Disc HerniationSpinal Disk Injury1 more

Decompression therapy is a result-oriented approach but it expensive and minimum availability in Pakistan. In physical therapy, we use different exercises to solve multiple spine problems. Some exercises used to treat orthogenic components such as mobilization, manipulation, SNAGS, and traction. Some exercises used to treat myogenic components such as muscle energy technique, neuromuscular reeducation, active isolated stretch, etc. Some exercises used to treat neurogenic components such as Neurodynamics, Active release technique, etc. As we know the fascia is an important component in our body most of the time the fascia restriction makes the patient condition verse. A researcher introduced the systems of exercise more the 35 years ago which works especially on the spine at every intervertebral level including costal and pelvic articulation. These exercises are called Elongation Longitudinaux Avec Decoaption Osteo-Articulaire (ELDOA) or simply Longitudinal Osteo-Articular De-coaptation Stretching (LOADS). It can be described as a fascial stretch that's localized tension at the level of a specific spinal segment and create decompression. In which he combined improving the tone of the intrinsic muscles of the spine along with reinforcing the extrinsic muscles related to the spine aim the back and stretching the interlinking paraspinal muscles. ELDOA exercise is designed for every level of the spine from the base of the skull to the sacroiliac joint. In each ELDOA exercise, we create fascial tension above and below the joint or disc that one is trying to "open up" or decompress. The outcomes include; Release vertebral compression, improved blood circulation, Disc re-hydration, improve muscle tone, and awareness. One of my studies also proved that ELDOA Exercises improve the pain and functional level in spinal disc protrusion patients.

Perioperative Outcome of Corticosteroids in Transforaminal Endoscopic Lumbar Discectomy

Lumbar Disc Herniation

The endoscopic discectomy has rapidly developed and increased need by patients. This procedure is widely performed by interventional pain physicians as well as by spine surgeons because it requires no general anesthesia or admission to a hospital. Many studies were reported that corticosteroid injection can inhibit persistent postoperative pain in lumbar discectomy. However, data of perioperative epidural steroids after an endoscopic discectomy is lacking.
