In functional neurological disorder (FND), neurological symptoms are present, such as paralysis, weakness and disturbed sensation of limbs, although clinically no abnormalities can be found. It is a poorly understood disorder with uncertain diagnosis, treatment and prognosis. In this study, the subtype functional paralysis is investigated with advanced neuroimaging techniques that go beyond standard clinical examinations. In previous research on FND, healthy volunteers have generally been used as a control group. However, since people with functional paralysis have similar symptoms to people with spinal cord injuries (SCI), it is intended to compare the three groups to find similarities and differences. With the proposed methods, the goal is to gain a detailed understanding of FND regarding nerve cell metabolism, diffusion pathways and neuronal networks involved in cognitive processes such as motor inhibition (reaction or no reaction depending on situation). Neurophysiological data, clinical assessments and questionnaires are carried out in addition to Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). The aim is to enrol 75 participants in this study, i.e. 25 people with FND, 25 people with SCI and 25 healthy control subjects. The overall goal of the study is to find markers for FND for use in future studies to improve diagnosis and individualise therapy recommendation for both people with SCI and people with FND. Therefore, this study is a relevant step to understand FND and to diagnose this specific disease using objective MRI based diagnostic tools.

The goal of this observational study is to learn about functional neurological disorders in patients with common non-functional movement disorders ("functional overlay"). The main questions it aims to answer are: What is the frequency of functional neurological disorders in patients with non-functional movement disorders (functional overlay)? What are the characteristics of functional neurological disorders in patients with non-functional movement disorders? Participants will be examined clinically and electrophysiologically, the examinations consist of: a neurological examination neuropsychological testing electrophysiological tremor diagnostic questionnaires about psychological, biological and social risk factors Researchers will compare patients with functional motor disorders to patients wit non-functional movement disorders to see if they differ from each other regarding the functional symptoms.

Dissociation involves distressing feelings of unreality and disconnection. Evidence suggests it is particularly common amongst people with existing mental health difficulties, where it has been linked with greater clinical severity, poorer treatment response, and increased self-harm and suicidality. However, there are currently no psychological treatments for dissociation that have been developed from a scientific understanding of its underpinning psychological factors. In this project, three studies, each with four participants, will test a different psychological factor. Participants will be: adults (16+ years); on a waiting list for NHS psychological therapy; high scorers on a dissociation questionnaire. Participants will complete assessments before and after treatment, and at a one-month follow-up. The studies follow a 'multiple baseline design', meaning that all four participants for that study will complete their baseline assessment in the same week, and then be randomly allocated to wait either one, two, three, or four weeks before starting the intervention. The intervention will consist of four therapy sessions taking place within a five-week 'window'. Taking part in the research is voluntary. Before deciding whether to participate, we will explain the study and answer any questions. Daily, participants will record a score for their dissociation and the psychological factor being targeted. At baseline, post-therapy, and follow-up, the researchers will also measure their levels of other factors related to dissociation (i.e. those not targeted by the therapy). Additionally, feedback will be requested from participants about the therapy at the end of their involvement, in order to improve it in future. Ultimately, if successful, these interventions could form a pilot therapy for further testing and development. This could mean fewer people struggle with the challenges of dissociation.

Hypnosis and virtual reality are potential tools for treating acute. Nevertheless, the neurophysiological correlates of such tools used together, i.e. 'virtual reality hypnosis' (VRH) (Patterson et al., 2004) remain mostly understudied. This study aims to improve our knowledge and understanding of the dissociation (i.e., a mental separation of components of behaviours that normally would be processed together) occurring during VRH. This is a clinical trial aiming at understanding if the VRH reduces pain during a port-a-cath intervention in oncological patients and if dissociation may explain the pain alteration.

The purpose of this study is to design and test the safety and feasibility of virtual reality technologies and experiences of egocentric avatar embodiment in the application of physical and cognitive behavior therapy in functional neurological symptom/conversion disorder. Investigators hypothesize that patients will safely use and accept this modality of treatment and will show evidence of a decrease in symptom frequency.

The purpose of this study is to test if denufosol will remove the fluid build-up in the eye so that the retina can be re-attached without invasive surgery.

In this fifth year of anti-VEGF therapy for neovascular AMD, retinal physicians are collecting groups of patients who either do not or only partially respond to anti-VEGF therapy. This study will evaluate the efficacy and safety of 2mg ranibizumab specifically for patients with fibrovascular PEDs that have not resolved following at least 6 consecutive injections of ranibizumab or bevacizumab over the previous 12 months. The investigators hypothesize that the 2mg dose will be able to completely eliminate the persistent PEDS in these patients.

This study aims to evaluate the neurobiological basis of traumatic dissociation in a cross-diagnostic sample of women who have histories of childhood abuse and neglect.

The proposed study will collect novel data evaluating the feasibility of the NFB training program delivered in an outpatient mental health setting and its influence on mothers' overall sense of well-being, and further investigate whether enhanced well-being is associated with positive changes in emotion regulation capacities, trauma-related mental health symptoms, parenting behaviors and attitudes, and infant behavioral outcomes (i.e., crying, fussing) among postpartum mothers with a history of childhood trauma and clinically concerning trauma-related mental health symptoms.

The research project outlined in this proposal aims to investigate the effectiveness of stabilizing group treatment as an add-on to conventional treatment, for patients with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or dissociative disorders after childhood abuse. The investigators also aim to study psychophysiological markers associated with complex trauma and treatment, mechanisms of change involved in treatment, and which patient characteristics that predict positive outcome.
