The purpose of this study is to determine the safety of donepezil hydrochloride (Aricept) in children with Down syndrome who have finished the preceding 10-week, double-blind study of donepezil hydrochloride. Medical tests for drug safety will be conducted at each clinic visit.

Brain Outcomes With Lifestyle Change in Down Syndrome

The goal of this study is to determine if weight loss or changes can help prevent of delay adults with Down syndrome from developing Alzheimer's Disease Adults with Down syndrome without dementia will be randomized to either a weight loss group or a general health education control group. The weight loss group will be asked to follow a reduced energy diet, attend monthly education sessions delivered remotely and self-monitor diet and body weight using commercially available web-based applications. The control group will be asked to attend remotely delivered monthly education sessions on general health education topics. All participants will come to the University of Kansas Medical Center, 3 times across 12 months for a blood draw, cognitive testing, a MRI, assessment of height and weight, and assessment of diet intake.

Effects of Infant Massage on Development of Down Syndrome Babies

Down Syndrome

The aim of ths study is to know the effects of infant massage in the maturation of the baby with Down syndrome. Scale Psychomotor Development Early Childhood Brunet-Lézine-Revised will be used to measure the maturational development of the baby with Down syndrome . Investigators will analyze two groups of intervention, the experimental group, in which parents will participate and will apply the knowledge learned in the course of Infant Massage and control, which does not receive the Infant Massage course during the study. Babies in both groups will be evaluated twice, at the beginning of the intervention (pretest) and end it after five weeks (posttest). The study population consists of 32 babies with Down syndrome between 4 and 8 months old.

The most important trial in Down syndrome children is motor milestones and postural reactions to develop on time. Neurodevelopmental therapy is applied to accurate atypical postural tone and to enable further regular motion for execution of presentation of abilities. Objective: To determine the effects of Neuro Developmental therapy in improving postural reaction and motor milestones in infants with Down syndrome.

Bobath and Vojta Therapy for DS

Different physiotherapy approaches and education programs are applied to minimize motor and mental impairment in children with Down syndrome (DS). The present study was conducted with the aim of comparing the effectiveness of two different physiotherapy approaches in babies with Down syndrome in the early period. A total of 23 babies with DS aged between 0-24 months were included in the study. Infants were randomly divided to two groups: Bobath therapy (BT) group included 12 infants (6 girls and 6 boys) and Vojta technique (VT) group included 11 infants (4 girls and 7 boys). The infants were applied a total of 12 sessions of physiotherapy (twice weekly during 6 weeks). Alberta Infant Motor Scale (AIMS) was used for comparison of motor development level before and after the therapy. Emotional status of the mothers was evaluated with Beck Depression Scale (BDS) and quality of life was evaluated with Nottigham Health Profile (NHP).
