Changes in Tear Lipid Layer Thickness After Short Exposure to Light Emitting Diode Displays
Lipid Tear Deficiency (Disorder)Dry Eye DiseaseVideo display terminals (VDTs) are ubiquitous, and engagement in digital screens has grown substantially across all age groups worldwide. Prolonged exposure to VDTs is associated with the development of various health problems. By now, it is unclear whether transient exposure to VDTs leads to ocular surface changes, especially regarding lipid layer thickness (LLT). This study aim to determine if short-term exposure to light-emitting diodes (LEDs) leads to ocular parameter changes. This is a prospective, cross-sectional study. Patients were recruited at the National Cheng-Kung University Hospital, a tertiary referral center in southern Taiwan, for examination, including best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), intraocular pressure (IOP), lipid layer thickness (LLT), and blink rates and patterns before and after watching an LED display for 15 minutes. The estimated result is that the LLT and blink rates will decrease after VDT watching.
Safety and Tolerability of Artificial Tears in Dry Eye Subjects
Dry Eye SyndromeThe safety and tolerability of two new artificial tears will be compared to a currently-available artificial tear in subjects with dry eye. Each subject will receive all three products in a randomly assigned order. The subject will use one product at a time for a duration of one week before switching to the next assigned product.
Phase III Confirmatory Study of DE-089 Ophthalmic Solution in Patients With Dry Eye
Dry EyeTo investigate that the efficacy of 3% DE-089 ophthalmic solution (one drop at a time, 6 times daily, 4 weeks topical administration), in comparison to 0.1% sodium hyaluronate ophthalmic solution (0.1% HA) (one drop at a time, 6 times daily, 4 weeks topical administration), is at least non-inferior in the change in fluorescein staining score, and is superior in the change in Rose bengal score, in a multicenter, double-masked, parallel-group comparison study. Safety profile will likewise be compared.

Dry EyesConjunctivochalasis refers to loose redundant, non-edematous inferior conjunctiva that is situated between the globe and lower eyelid, and usually it occurs bilaterally. It has been reported to cause ocular discomfort, tear instability, alteration of tear spreading and subsequently dry eye, which is a common condition that affects vision and quality of life in patients. This condition has also been reported to be associated with aging and ocular surface inflammation. The assessment of conjunctivochalasis was traditionally based on silt lamp examination and this may be cumbersome and highly subjective. Only recently, researchers have advocated the use of imaging and more objective documentation by anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT), using Fourier-Domain RTVue-100 OCT. The AS-OCT is an imaging method that documents the tear meniscus and prolapse of conjunctiva into the tear meniscus in a safe, rapid and non-invasive way. Image analysis on the area of prolapsed conjunctiva can then be used to ascertain the severity of conjunctivochalasis. We propose the use of HD-Cirrus AS-OCT for the imaging of conjunctivochalasis, since this technique provides more magnified and colored digital images, which helps to delineate different tissues and serves as a better education tool for patients. This current study aims to investigative the inter and intra examiner reproducibility of imaging conjunctivochalasis using HD-Cirrus AS-OCT, using patients from the dry eye clinic from the Singapore National Eye Centre. These patients will be asked to come to the centre for imaging and have three scans of the same eye performed in one session by two trained investigators consecutively. The resulting limits of repeatability will be very useful for us to follow up patients who undergo surgical or diathermy treatment for conjunctivochalasis, and for sample size calculation in the planning of interventional studies.
Effect of Contact Lens With Alginic Acid in Dry Eye Patients
Dry EyesContact lens induced dry eyes leads to lens intolerance and discontinuation. Incidence of dry eye in contact lens wearer is significantly higher in Asian population compared to other ethnic group considering Asian has lower tear break up time. Disruptions of tear integrity in contact lens wearer will further exacerbate the condition. Factors for successful contact lens fitting derive from the biocompatibility of lens material, lens design and stability of tear film in front of the contact lens. This study aim to investigate the efficacy of a novel daily disposable contact lens with zwitterionic material that contains alginic acid which act as a moisturizing agent. The improved lens material may likely improve the comfort and treat symptomatic wearers.

This study compare the effects of Liposic and Tears Naturale Forte application on the lipid and stability of the tear film in dry eye patients.
