Safety and Tolerability of Chitosan-N-acetylcysteine Eye Drops in Healthy Young Volunteers
Dry Eye SyndromesThe "dry eye syndrome" DES is a highly prevalent ocular disease, in particular in the elderly population. One mainstay of therapy for patients suffering from DES is the use of topically administered lubricants. However, despite many efforts, no "ideal" formulation has yet been found. Recently, Croma Pharma has introduced chitosan-N-acetylcysteine eye drops, designed for treatment of symptoms related to DES. Chemically, chitosan is a polycationic biopolymer with favourable biological properties such as high biocompatibility and low toxicity. Additionally, the new formulation comprises N-acetylcysteine, which has been used in ophthalmology because of its mucolytic properties for several years. Based on theoretical considerations, one can hypothesize that the new chitosan derivative may show an increased adhesion to mucins of the ocular surface and may therefore be particularly beneficial in reducing the symptoms associated with DES.
Prospective Health Assessment of Cataract Patients' Ocular Surface
Dry EyeThis study will determine the incidence and severity of dry eye in patients undergoing cataract surgery as determined by grade on the International Task Force (ITF) scale.
Dry Eye Under China's Dynamic COVID-zero Strategy
Dry Eye SymptomsTo compare the prevalence of dry eye symptoms and to investigate the association of the risk factors with the dry eye symptomatology among university students in the epidemic and non-epidemic areas of China under the COVID-zero strategy.
Comparison of Ocular Surface Features in Patients With Diabetes and Dry Eye Syndrome
Dry Eye SyndromeDiabetes Mellitus Type 2The study aims to compare the differences of ocular surface features in controls and patients with diabetes and dry eye syndrome, to thoroughly evaluate the ocular surface health of diabetics, and to find out the relationship between dry eye syndrome and diabetes
Evaluation of Factors Affecting the Tear-film Lipid Layer Thickness
Dry Eye SyndromeIn this study, the investigators aim to determine the effects of age, sex, history of ocular surgery and contact lens use, and ocular surface and meibomian gland parameters on the lipid layer thickness (LLT) in normal subjects and patients with dry eye syndrome. Patients with dry eye syndrome and subjects with a healthy ocular surface will be enrolled. All participant will underwent LLT measurement with a LipiView interferometer, tear meniscus height measurement using optical coherence tomography, tear film break-up time (TBUT) determination, corneal and conjunctival staining, Schirmer's test, examination of the lid margins and meibomian glands, and assessment using the Ocular Surface Disease Index(OSDI) questionnaire.
A Study To Investigate The Effects Of A Low Humidity Environment And Visual Tasking On Tear Film...
Dry EyeThe purpose of the study is to collect valuable data on the role of controlled humidity, temperature, airflow, and visual tasking in altering the tear film protein composition. The results from this preliminary study will help to explore the role of tear film markers in inflammatory and disease conditions. This can also be extended to understand the role of the tear film in protecting the ocular surface when individuals are exposed to low humidity environments which may incite discomfort symptoms.

Dry Eye SyndromesSjögren SyndromeThe purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of fluorometholone combined with sodium hyaluronate eye drops in the treatment of Sjögren syndrome.
Dry Eye Symptoms and Quality of Life
Dry EyesDry eye syndrome is a very common condition with multiple etiologies that includes systemic and ocular disease that causes reduction in the production of tears, as well as increase in tears evaporation. As a result of the various etiologies and large variability of dry eye's clinical sign, it has been a challenge for practitioners to have a consistent system to classify dry eyes and to have an appropriate and accurate measurement to quantify the severity of dry eyes and its impact on patients' quality of life.6 To date, no study which evaluates the extent of questionnaires correlates with changes in quality of life. With this cross sectional interview study, we aim to determine the efficacy of the questionnaires as a practical tool in our future clinical trials at our center.
