Every year more than 4 billion cases of diarrhea occur worldwide culminating in about 2.5 million deaths, almost all in the developing nations. Reliable diagnosis of patients with acute infectious diarrhea which could be appropriately managed with antibiotics at presentation still remains a formidable challenge to the clinicians. To address this issue of predicting microbiological infectious etiology for diagnosing acute infectious diarrhea, we would evaluate stools from all patients with acute diarrhea with culture, Guaiac based fecal occult blood test (FOBT), Calprotectin and lactoferrin assays simultaneously. This would be the first study evaluating fecal calprotectin as a diagnostic marker in acute diarrhea

Patients with traveller's diarrhoea frequently harbour Extended Spectrum Betalactamase (ESBL)-producing Enterobacteriaceae (EPE) returning from EPE-endemic areas. This study investigates to what extent travellers returning to Sweden with traveller's diarrhoea carry ESBL in their stool. The isolates are examined further according to species, phenotype, antibiogram and whole genome sequencing.

The aim of this study is to accelerate the development of vaccine candidates against diarrheal diseases caused by Shigella and Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC). We plan to identify cases of laboratory-proven shigellosis and ETEC-associated diarrhea, to study humoral and cellular immune parameters following natural infections with Shigella and ETEC, and to compare the level of pre-existing local, humoral and cellular immune parameters in cases of shigellosis and ETEC-associated diarrhea and in matched controls.

Amoebiasis, an infection by the protozoan parasite Entamoeba histolytica is globally considered as the third leading parasitic cause of human mortality besides malaria and schistosomiasis. It is estimated that E. histolytica may infect half a billion people annually. Moreover, it was estimated that 100,000 patients per year died due to the clinical complications of the disease. Laboratory diagnosis of E. histolytica/dispar is usually achieved by microscopic detection of trophozoites or cysts in stool samples. Microscopy is time consuming and requires an experienced observer to identify the organism. Furthermore, it must be performed on three stool samples to increase sensitivity leading to decreased patient compliance and delay in the final diagnosis. Therefore, a few the commercially available copro-antigen assay have been developed for E. histolytica/dispar diagnosis including the enzyme immunoassay and non-enzymatic immunochromatographic (ICT) assays that do not depend on microscopy skills and increase laboratory efficiency by reducing time and cost. The aim of the study is: to evaluate the efficacy of commercially available rapid immunochromatographic Copro-antigen assay (RIDA® QUICK Entamoeba) in comparison with conventional microscopic examination for the diagnosis of E. histolytica /dispar infection. to estimate the prevalence of E. histolytica /dispar infection in outpatients in Sohag.

Xiyanping is kind of Chinese Medicine injection used for treating viral pneumonia 、bronchitis、amygdalitis、infantile diarrhea、bacillary dysentery 、virus hepatitis、and Children acute hot diseases in many Chinese hospitals. The purpose of this study is to determine adverse drug events or adverse drug reaction in large sample size 20,000 patients.
