Physiological Responses to Exercise Tests in Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia Compared With Healthy Individuals...
Primary Ciliary DyskinesiaThe individuals with primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) have lower aerobic fitness and anaerobic performance than healthy individuals. Cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) provides an integrated assessment of integrative exercise responses involving the pulmonary, cardiovascular, hematopoietic, neuropsychological, and skeletal muscle systems that are not adequately reflected by measurement of the function of organ systems. Maximum oxygen consumption is measured by performing gas exchange analysis with CPET, offering an objective measure of cardiorespiratory fitness. The six-minute walk test (6MWT) and the shuttle walk test (SWT) are field tests that produce oxygen consumption results similar to those during CPET. There is a need to determine the physiological responses to CPET, SWT and 6MWT in individuals with PCD. Additionally, the physiological responses of individuals with PCD to different exercise tests will be compared with the responses of healthy individuals. Low aerobic capacity in individuals with PCD may affect the physical, emotional, and social lives of individuals. This influence may cause a decrease in the quality of life of individuals with PCD. The relationship between exercise capacity and quality of life in individuals with PSD will be investigated with this study.
International Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD) Registry
Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD)The purpose of the international prospective PCD Patient Registry is to systematically measure, survey and compare different aspects of PCD manifestation, course and treatment, to provide data for epidemiological research and to identify special patient groups suitable for multi-center trials. This International PCD Registry is also part of the European Reference Network ERN-LUNG. We follow the recommendations of the EU Expert Committee on Rare Diseases (EUCERD), which recommend an international interoperability of registries and databases to pool and exchange knowledge and data on rare diseases.
Assessment of ADCY5-related Movement Disorders With Motion SENSors
ADCY5-related DyskinesiaADCY5-related movement disorders are caused by dominant mutations in the ADCY5 gene. This rare neurogenetic disease is characterized by childhood-onset generalized hyperkinetic movements. Currently, the only tools available to rate the severity of movement disorders observed in ADCY5-patients are clinical rating scales of abnormal movements. These scales use the investigators' judgement to rate globally the severity of movements observed in various body parts of the patient. This protocol proposes to investigate a multimodal approach, combining a clinical scale assessment with ViconTM's objective movement measurement. A secondary objective of the study is to assess the effect of coffee on ADCY5-patients.
Efficacy and Safety of Amantadine Hydrogen Chloride (HCl) ER Tablets in Parkinson's Disease Subjects...
Parkinson's DiseaseLevodopa Induced Dyskinesia (LID)The purpose of this multi-center, randomized, double-blind, parallel-group, 26 week study is to compare the efficacy and safety of two different dose levels of Amantadine Extended Release Tablets to placebo for the treatment of levodopa induced dyskinesia in patients with Parkinson's disease.
Sarizotan in the Treatment of Neuroleptic-induced Tardive Dyskinesia
Neuroleptic-induced Tardive DyskinesiaTD is a troublesome and potentially irreversible side effect associated with the use of neuroleptics. While the newer neuroleptics are improved in this regard, they all still carry the risk of TD. The present study proposes that sarizotan is a potential agent for treating neuroleptic-induced TD based on preliminary data indicating efficacy in the management of dyskinesias associated with Parkinson's disease. Its efficacy is further substantiated by pre-clinical data obtained from the vacuous chewing movement (VCM) model in rats, a model we employ ourselves in investigating the relationship between D2 occupancy and TD. The present study also examines the effects of sarizotan on cognitive function, given the association between TD and cognitive deficits.

Parkinson's DiseaseLevodopa Induced Dyskinesias (LID)This study was terminated early due to slow enrollment with 87 of 162 planned subjects enrolled. The purpose of this multi-center, randomized, double-blind, parallel-group, 16 week study is to compare the efficacy and safety of two different dose levels of Amantadine Extended Release Tablets to placebo for the treatment of levodopa induced dyskinesia in patients with Parkinson's disease.

Parkinson's DiseaseA phase II double blind trial to evaluate the effects of the AMPA, glutamte antagonist, topiramate on levodopa-induced dyskinesia in Parkinson's disease
Effects of Ai Chi on Scapular Muscle Activation in Overhead Athletes With Scapular Dyskinesis
Scapular DyskinesisAthletic Injuries2 moreScapular dyskinesis (SD) is common in overhead athletes and negatively influence the athletes' performance, increasing the risk of shoulder injury. The kinetic chain (KC) exercises for SD rehabilitation that emphasize importance of core strength and scapula stability during skillful performance. Ai Chi, the aquatic exercises performed in functional positions, which are adequate for power transfer of KC. This study will investigate the effect of KC-based water exercises, Ai Chi, on scapular muscles in overhead athletes with SD.
Effect of the Visual Information Change in Functional Dystonia
DystoniaDystonic Disorders6 moreCervical dystonia occurring only during the writing task is a rare form for which there is no established treatment. Many authors agree that alteration of sensory integration is associated with dystonia. Similar disturbances in the integration of oculomotor information could have a role in cervical dystonia forms involving visuo-cervico-manual coordination such as handwriting. We hypothesize that orthoptic treatment by wearing prisms when writing (i) will reduce the abnormal posture of the head occurring whilst writing and remove the associated nuchal pain; (ii) the correction after a period of systematic wearing of the prisms during handwriting tasks will have a sustainable effect allowing to keep a normal head position after the suppression of the prisms.
