Diabetes Nutrition Algorithm - Prediabetes

PrediabetesDiabetes Mellitus Type 23 more

Prediabetes, defined by either impaired fasting glucose and/or impaired glucose tolerance, is a known high-risk condition predisposing to future diabetes mellitus type 2. Strategies to prevent progression from prediabetes to diabetes have been widely studied, however, without striking long-term effects of any kind of intervention (pharmacological, behavioral...). The investigators therefore investigate certain nutritional approaches concerning nutrient content and favorable food components, targeting metabolic improvement.

Diet Intervention and GEnetic STudy (DIGEST-Pilot)

Cardiovascular DiseasesInflammation3 more

Genetic factors contribute to risk factors for cardiovascular disease, such as blood lipids, blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, and may also influence dietary choices, physical activity, and responses to stress. The most robust genetic variant associated with myocardial infarction (MI) is the 9p21 variant, which may raise the risk of MI by up to 40% in those who carry 2 copies of the gene. The investigators recently found that among those who carry the 9p21 variant, the risk of MI may be "turned off" if individuals eat a diet high in fruits and vegetables. The investigators seek to determine how a "prudent" or "anti-inflammatory" diet interacts with the 9p21 risk allele to alter the risk of MI.

Correlation of Serum Adropin to Testosterone and Adiponectin in Obese Men

ObesityDyslipidemias

Obesity is associated with low testosterone in men and with dyslipidemia. Adropin hormone is negatively correlated with body mass index and is associated with dyslipidemia. correlation between adropin and testosterone will be evaluated.

Lipid Profile and Diabetes Mellitus in People With HIV

HIV InfectionsDyslipidemias2 more

Traditional risk factors for cardiovascular diseases have been shown to have an even higher impact in the HIV infected population. The original study from 2014 was a cross sectional study into the prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors (namely, dyslipidaemia and diabetes mellitus) in people living with HIV (PLWHIV) in Austria. The aim of this follow up study is to see the progression of our study sample and to see what prevalence levels may be found after 7 years. This epidemiological evaluation is conceptualized to document real life major cardiovascular risk factors of HIV-infected patients, focusing on lipid profiles and diabetes mellitus risk and to compare with the baseline values from the original study.

Hepatic Insulin Sensitivity and Very Low Density Lipoprotein Triglyceride (VLDL-TG) Kinetics

ObesityDyslipidemia

Obesity is associated with dyslipidemia, which is a major risk factor for coronary heart disease. Triglycerides (TG) and cholesterol are transported in the system of lipoproteins, and the metabolism of these lipids in plasma is closely interrelated. Evidence suggests that increased concentration of very low-density lipoprotein triglyceride (VLDL-TG) is a central pathophysiological feature of the lipid and lipoprotein abnormalities in dyslipidemia. The primary objective of this study is to investigate VLDL-TG kinetics and hepatic insulin sensitivity in age-matched obese and lean, healthy men in the postabsorptive state and during acute hyperinsulinemia using VLDL-TG and glucose tracers.

A Study to Design a Model Cohort for Analysis of Dyslipidemia (MK-0653A-204)

DyslipidemiaHypercholesterolemia

This study is being done to provide valid data on the evolution of a cohort of French participants treated with ezetimibe, alone or in combination with a statin, to be used in simulation models for cardiovascular disease (CVD). Patterns of drug use, evolution of risk factors for CVD, cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, and goal attainment in low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels over time will be analyzed.
