A Study on Postmarketing Xuezhikang Capsule for Treating Dyslipidemia
DyslipidemiaDyslipidemia contributes greatly to the formation and progression of atherosclerosis (AS), which plays a dominant role in leading to CHD. Xuezhikang is a partially purified extract of fermented red yeast rice (Monascus purpureus). It is composed of 13 kinds of natural statins, unsaturated fatty acids, ergosterol, amino acids, flavonoids, alkaloid, trace element, and so forth. Xuezhikang has been recommended in a guideline for China adult dyslipidemia prevention. This study aims to evaluate the benefit and side effect of Xuezhikang, a potential alternative drug of statins, for patients with dyslipidemia, and thus provide further evidence for clinical application.

The HDL Particle Protection Study
Dyslipidemia in Patients With Diabetes MellitusAtorvastatin is a statin that significantly decreases LDL level. At 10 mg/day, atorvastatin increases HDL level by 4-5%. At 80 mg/day, atorvastatin does not increase HDL level. However, atorvastatin is more protective at 80 mg/day than at 10 mg/day. This is due to a better reduction in LDL level at 80 mg, but we also think that 80 mg/day of atorvastatin is superior to 10 mg/day in improving the QUALITY of HDL, such as improving HDL particle number and function (better anti-oxydant activity)
