Study To Evaluate The Effects Of GW856553 On Endothelial Function/Vascular Compliance In Subjects...

Healthy SubjectsDyslipidaemias1 more

The rationale for this study is to determine whether GW856553 (7.5mg BD for 28 days) has an effect on endothelial function in dyslipidaemic subjects as assessed by venous occlusion plethysmography using brachial artery acetylcholine infusion. This will establish consistency with preclinical findings, as well as confirm a physiologic human response at the current safe maximal dose. Safety (specifically serum liver function testing) and tolerability will also be evaluated in this trial.

Effect of Abdominal Obesity on Lipoprotein Metabolism

ObesityDyslipidemia1 more

Abdominal obesity is strongly associated with dyslipidemia, which may account for the associated increased risk of atherosclerosis and coronary disease. Weight reduction is suggested to be a preferred and effective first-line strategy to correct lipid abnormalities, particularly in overweight/obese subjects. This improvement may be related to the effect of reduction in abdominal fat mass on apoB and apoA-I metabolism, but this remains to be fully demonstrated. Hypothesis: Reduction in abdominal fat mass by weight loss decreases apoB concentration and raises HDL-cholesterol chiefly by increasing LDL-apoB fractional catabolic rate (FCR), as well as decreasing HDL apoA-I, respectively.

Atheroma Reduction With Chloroquine in Patients With the Metabolic Syndrome (ARCH-MS)

Metabolic Syndrome XOverweight3 more

Metabolic syndrome consists of a group of co-occuring conditions that increase an individual's risk of developing heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the long-term effectiveness of chloroquine, a protein-activation medication, at reducing the progression of atherosclerosis in patients with the metabolic syndrome. Sub-study: Vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)and Cardiometabolic Risk, The purpose is to determine if the association of VEGF with atherosclerosis indicates that it should be a marker of the disorder.

An Open-Label Study to Compare the Lipid Effects of Niacin ER and Simvastatin (NS) to Atorvastatin...

HyperlipidemiaMixed Dyslipidemia

To demonstrate that niacin ER and simvastatin (NS) tablets, when compared to atorvastatin (Lipitor®; Pfizer, Inc.), has superior high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) elevating effects at Week 12 in subjects with type II hyperlipidemia or mixed dyslipidemia who are currently off lipid-modifying therapy. This was a prospective, randomized, open-label, blinded endpoint (PROBE) study.

MK-0524B Lipid Study (MK-0524B-063)

Primary HypercholesterolemiaMixed Dyslipidemia

This is a 20-week clinical trial in participants with primary hypercholesterolemia or mixed dyslipidemia to demonstrate the effect of MK-0524B compared to MK-0524A + Simvastatin on lipid values.

Effect of Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate on Lipid Levels in HIV Infected Adults on Stable Anti-HIV...

HIV InfectionsDyslipidemia3 more

The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of the anti-HIV drug tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) on lipid levels in HIV infected adults on stable anti-HIV drug therapy. Study hypothesis: The addition of TDF to stable background antiretroviral therapy in HIV infected individuals with dyslipidemia will result in a reduction of non-HDL after 12 weeks of treatment.

Look AHEAD: Action for Health in Diabetes

DiabetesMyocardial Infarction4 more

The Look AHEAD study is a multi-center, randomized clinical trial to examine the long-term effects of a lifestyle intervention designed to achieve and maintain weight loss. The study will investigate the effects of the intervention on heart attacks, stroke and cardiovascular-related death in individuals with type 2 diabetes who are also overweight or obese.
