An ACT Group Intervention for ED-patients
Eating DisorderThe purpose of this study was to test if an ACT group intervention focusing on body image reduces eating disorders symptoms and reduces care consumption in patients treated at a specialised eating disorder unit.
Internet Weight Control for Bingeing Adolescents
ObesityEating DisordersThe purpose of this study is to determine if an internet-based intervention designed to reduce binge eating and improve healthy weight regulation skills will result in reductions in binge eating and weight loss, or weight maintenance, in overweight adolescents who binge eat.
Binge Eating & Birth Control
Bulimia NervosaBinge Eating2 moreThis pilot study examines the effect of stabilizing ovarian hormones on eating behaviors and brain activation in women with binge eating (n=15) using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and behavioral tests. This is completed by taking oral contraceptives (birth control) continuously for three months. Prior to medication administration and at the end of treatment, eating behaviors will be measured and fMRI will be conducted in order to examine changes in activation in dopamine-reward pathways that occur with oral contraceptive administration. This will assess changes in brain activation that occur with the stabilization of ovarian hormones.
Intervention Program to Improve Body Image and Self-Esteem Among Female Athletes.
Feeding and Eating DisordersA controlled, randomized clinical intervention study which includes the development and activation of an intervention program designed to prevent eating disorders among adolescent female aesthetic athletes. Our hypothesis is that the intervention program will yield improvement in the participants' eating behaviors, drive for thinness, and body image as compared with the age matched control group. Results will be measured using the study questionnaire, to be filled out by the participants before, after, and three months after the completion of the program. The Questionnaire will include validated questionnaires with good psychometric qualities.
Cognitive Dissonance and Attentional Biases Related to Body Dissatisfaction
Body-dissatisfactionThe purpose of this study is to assess a cognitive dissonance-based eating disorder prevention intervention program on its ability to reduce attentional biases in body-dissatisfied women.
Preventing Obesity in Military Communities, Adolescents
ObesityWeight Gain2 moreThis research study is aimed at the prevention of excessive weight gain in female military dependents at high risk for adult obesity. The purpose of this study is to determine whether reducing Loss of Control (LOC) eating and associated indicators through use of interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) will be feasible and acceptable to female adolescent dependents who report such behaviors. Moreover, patterns in the data will be examined to assess whether IPT influences body weight gain trajectories and prevent worsening disordered eating and metabolic functioning among female military dependents at heightened risk for unhealthy weight gain.
Impact of Cannabis Oil on Nutrition in Hemodialysis Patients Study (ICON-HP Study)
Protein-Energy MalnutritionHemodialysis1 moreThe study will be performed in two parts: 1) The pharmacokinetic (PK) part and 2) The appetite and nutritional evaluation part. The PK part of study will be conducted in open label manner on 10 end stage kidney disease (ESKD) patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) treatment. For the PK part, a starting dose of cannabis oil -1 drop of 3% cannabis oil once a day [each drop contain 1.2 mg CBD (cannabidiol) and 1.2 mg of ∆9-THC (∆9-tetrahydrocannabinol)], was judged to be safe for a first-in-MHD patient's administration. Escalation to the next higher dose and any dose adjustments of the next dose levels will be based on safety and tolerability results of the previously administered dose and available PK data of previous dose groups. Once the first dosage proved to be safe, there will be a 2 fold increase from the first dose level (2 drops once a day) to the second dose level. The dose levels will be increased by 2-fold from the previous dose level, until basal hunger and prospective consumption ratings assessed by the visual analogue scale (VAS) will increase at least by 10 mm between screening and the study visits (change-from-baseline) . PK parameters will be evaluated after first dosage administration and after dosage increased. The appetite and nutritional evaluation part of study will be conducted as a 3-month, double-blind, parallel-group, placebo-controlled, single center study. The study population will include 30 ESKD patients receiving MHD treatment with different degrees of protein-energy wasting (PEW) defined as malnutrition-inflammation score (MIS) above 6. A total of 30 subjects will be randomized to treatment with either cannabis oil or matching placebo.
Evaluation of the Impact of a Comic-based Programme to Promote Body Confidence Among Adolescents...
Body ImageEating Disorder SymptomBody dissatisfaction is a leading concern for young people and can have serious health consequences. Emerging approaches for improving body image are effective among adolescents in the school setting. However, the majority of trials are conducted in high-income westernised countries, despite body dissatisfaction being increasingly recognised as a global concern. As such, it is important to develop and disseminate interventions to promote body confidence among adolescents in in low-to-middle income countries, too. One country where body image concerns are becoming an increasing issue is India. The investigators recently finished developing and evaluating a body image programme among adolescents in New Delhi, India; which found immediate and 3-month improvements in body image, disordered eating, self-esteem, and other related outcomes. Whilst these findings offer an effective body image programme for school students in urban areas of India, this may not be feasible for schools in more rural and lower socio-economic areas in India. The aim of the present study is therefore to conduct an acceptability study, followed by a randomised controlled trial (RCT), of a comics-based body image programme among adolescents in a semi-rural area of India (Rajasthan), in order to understand its acceptability, feasibility, and preliminary efficacy. This comic-based programme will be based on Dove Confident Me, which was found to be effective among adolescents in Delhi, India. To assess the acceptability of the comic-book-based programme, interviews and focus groups will be conducted with students and teachers. This in-depth feedback will be used to optimise the programme. Next, an RCT will compare body image and well-being of students who take part in the programme to students who do not take part (classes as usual) to examine the programme's efficacy. The investigators will recruit students and teachers from schools in a rural and lower socio-economic area of India (Rajasthan). Students will complete questionnaire assessments of body image and well-being before and after the 6-session intervention (across 4 weeks), and again at 3-month follow-up to assess longer-term benefits. It is hypothesised that students who receive the intervention will have better body image and wellbeing relative to the control group at both post-intervention and follow-up.
Oropharyngeal Administration of Mother's Milk in Preterm Infants and Neonatal Infection
Preterm InfantNeonatal SEPSIS1 moreThe protective effect of mother's milk and colostrum on oropharyngeal cavity is not achievable with gavage feeding. This may be increase the risk of colonization of the oropharyngeal cavity with pathogenic bacteria and subsequent increase in the risk of neonatal sepsis. We aim to study the impact of Oropharyngeal Administration of Mother's Milk (OPAMM) before gavage feeding on clinical outcome, bacterial colonization of the GIT of preterm infants with pathogenic bacteria. We also aim to study the immune-protective effect of OPAMM on the incidence of nosocomial sepsis.
Mental Health in Dancers; an Intervention Study
Mental Health ImpairmentMental Health8 moreInternational studies reveal high prevalence of eating disorders (ED) and mental health issues amongst professional dancers, and the Norwegian National Ballet's house previously (2005) reported a lifetime prevalence of ED by 50% amongst female ballet dancers. Mental health issues and ED have been acknowledged for several years in most sports; still the same do not apply to dance sports. The objective of this study is to improve the knowledge on prevalence of mental health issues in professional dancers and the corresponding awareness of such among dance teachers. Additional objectives are to evaluate the effect of an intervention aimed to improve knowledge on nutrition, recovery strategies and mental health literacy among professional dancers and their teachers.
