Effect of Topical Brimonidine on Post Cataract Surgery Corneal Edema

Corneal EdemaVisual Acuity

Most patients undergoing cataract surgery suffer from corneal edema after the surgery. Brimonidine drops are a well known and safe Anti-glaucoma medication. the investigators have made several clinical observations that patients receiving Brimonidine drops had a faster resolution of their corneal edema even if they had normal intra-ocular pressure. The investigators believe that administering topical Brimonidine to patients with significant post operative corneal edema will hasten the resolution of their corneal edema.

Does NMES Help Relieve Lower Limb Oedema and Improve Joint Mobility and Skin Tissue Oxygenation...

Oedema

Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) will be facilitated through the use of a stimulator, with the patient in a semi recumbent position, using UltraStim electrodes. Two 5 cm x 5 cm electrodes will be placed over the soleus muscle for calf stimulation. The participant will be allowed to ramp up the stimulus level themselves to get used to the sensation and determine their maximum tolerated stimulus level. A goniometer will be used to assess mobility at the knee and ankle joints. Transcutaneous oxygen measurements (tcpO2) will be assessed using the PERIMED Periflux System 500 tcpO2 monitor. The level of oedema will be measured using the figure of eight measurement, tape circumference measurement and water displacement measurement. Comfort will also be assessed by use of a 100mm non-hatched visual analogue scale (VAS). Each participant will be asked to indicate their level of comfort following the application of NMES.

Prevention of Post-Extubation Laryngeal Edema With Intravenous Corticosteroids

Post-Extubation Laryngeal Edema

Tracheal intubation is a frequent procedure in intensive care units (ICU). Post-extubation laryngeal edema is a frequent complication with potential morbidity and mortality, and may lead to urgent tracheal re-intubation. Corticosteroids have been proposed to reduce the incidence of post-extubation laryngeal edema. A few clinical studies have been conducted in adult ICU patients and have led to discrepant results. These discrepancies may be related to the time lag separating the administration of the corticosteroids and the planned extubation. Accordingly, we tested the hypothesis that pretreatment with corticosteroids initiated 12 hours before a planned extubation may efficiently prevent the occurrence of postextubation laryngeal edema in critically-ill adults who have been mechanically ventilated for more than 36 hours in the ICU.

Pilot Study of the Effect of Topical Bromfenac Ophthalmic Solution 0.09%in Patients With Acute Post-operative...

Cystoid Macular Edema

This research is being done to look at the effects of Bromfenac, also called Xibrom for the treatment of swelling in the retina (the light sensitive tissue in the back of the eye) called "macular edema" that occurs after cataract surgery. Swelling in the retina can lead to blurry vision. The most commonly used treatment is eyedrops that decrease inflammation and may help stop some of the swelling. The investigators want to see if the drug Bromfenac(Xibrom) can decrease the swelling in the retina after cataract surgery and improve vision in these patients.

Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Non-invasive Ventilation on the Reperfusion Pulmonary Edema Post...

Reperfusion Pulmonary Edema

The purpose of this study is to determine whether Non Invasive Ventilation are effective in prevention of reperfusion pulmonary edema after pulmonary artery angioplasty. Our hypothesis is that administration of Non Invasive Ventilation during the procedure and systematically in post procedure period is a protective factor against the development and severity of reperfusion pulmonary edema.

Changes to the Retina Following Anti-VEGF Treatments for Diabetic Macular Edema

Diabetic Macular Edema

anti-VEGF therapy is an established method to control leakage and abnormal growth of retinal blood vessels. Questions on the long-term effect on the retina, intraocular pressure and on the overall retinal perfusion from these treatments remain to be answered. The purpose of the study was to evaluate changes in the retina following anti-VEGF treatment over time, using structural and functional diagnostic tests.

A Study to Evaluate the Effectiveness of Intravitreal Aflibercept in Patients With Diabetic Macular...

Macular Edema

AURIGA is designed to collect data from routine clinical practice on the effectiveness and utilization of intravitreal aflibercept in the treatment of visual impairment due to diabetic macular edema (DME) or macula edema secondary to retinal vein occlusion (RVO). The primary objective of this observational study (OS) is to evaluate the effectiveness of intravitreal aflibercept in 4 cohorts (with/without prior treatment in DME or macular edema secondary to RVO) in each of the participating countries. Additionally, utilization and treatment regimens in routine clinical practice will be described. Health care resources and services as well as health out-comes related to vision loss will be evaluated based on information collected using the AURIGA patient questionnaires.

A Study to Assess the Effectiveness of Aflibercept in Routine Clinical Practice in Patients With...

Macular Edema

Intravitreal aflibercept has been approved for the treatment of visual impairments due to diabetic macular oedema (DMO) in Europe and the US in August 2014 and July 2014 respectively. The main objectives of this observational cohort field study are to evaluate effectiveness of intravitreal aflibercept and to describe follow-up as well as treatment patterns in anti vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) treatment naïve patients with DMO in routine clinical practice in the United Kingdom.
