Effect of Simvastatin and Ezetimibe on Lipid and Inflammation
PrediabetesHypercholesterolemia2 moreEzetimibe specifically blocks the absorption of dietary and biliary cholesterol and plant sterols. Synergism of ezetimibe-statin therapy on LDL-cholesterol has been demonstrated, but data concerning the pleiotropic effects of this combination are controversial. We tested the hypothesis that the combination of simvastatin and ezetimibe would induce improvement in inflammatory status, as reflected by leukocyte count and CRP, IL-6 and TNF-a levels. This open-label trial evaluated whether this combination results in a synergistic effect the pro-inflammatory status of pre-diabetic subjects. Fifty pre-diabetic subjects were randomly assigned to one of 2 groups, one receiving ezetimibe (10 mg/d), the other, simvastatin (20 mg/d) for 12 weeks, followed by an additional 12-week period of combined therapy.
Ezetimibe Plus Simvastatin Versus Simvastatin Alone in African-American Subjects With Primary Hypercholesterolemia...
HypercholesterolemiaAtherosclerosisThe purpose of this study is to evaluate whether coadministration of ezetimibe 10 mg/day with simvastatin 20 mg/day for 12 weeks will result in greater reduction of LDL-C, total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), non HDL-C, and apolipoprotein B (ApoB), and greater increase in HDL-C, compared with simvastatin 20 mg/day as monotherapy for 12 weeks in African-American subjects with primary hypercholesterolemia. This study is being performed to better define the efficacy of ezetimibe coadministered with simvastatin in this population.
Ezetimibe Plus Atorvastatin Versus Atorvastatin in Untreated Subjects With High Cholesterol (P03434)...
HypercholesterolemiaAtherosclerosisThis study was designed to assess whether co-administration of ezetimibe 10 mg with atorvastatin 10 mg in treatment naïve subjects would be more effective than treatment with atorvastatin 10 mg alone for reducing LDL-concentrations.
Treatment of Hypercholesterolaemia in Hispanic Subjects (STARSHIP)
HypercholesterolemiaDyslipidaemiaThe purpose of this study is to compare the effect of 6 weeks of treatment with Rosuvastatin with 6 weeks of treatment with Atorvastatin in Hispanic subjects with hypercholesterolemia
Progression of Carotid Artery Atheroma in Moderately Hypercholesterolemic Subjects
Carotid Artery StenosisHypercholesterolemiaThe purpose of this study is to examine the changes in the carotid artery when subjects receive high or low doses of rosuvastatin.
Safety and Efficacy Study Comparing ABT-143 to Simvastatin in Subjects With Elevated Levels of Low...
DyslipidemiaHypercholesterolemia1 moreThe primary purpose of this study is to test the effect and safety of three different doses of ABT-143 compared to simvastatin in subjects with elevated levels of low density lipoprotein cholesterol ("bad cholesterol") and triglycerides.
Effect of Diabetes Mellitus on Cholesterol Metabolism
Type 1 Diabetes MellitusType 2 Diabetes Mellitus1 moreHMG CoA reductase inhibitors (statins) are commonly used to treat high cholesterol (HC) in both type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). Several studies have shown benefits of statin among patients of type 2 DM, however, no such data is available for patients with type 1 DM. It is known from studies on cholesterol metabolism using surrogate markers that patients with type 1 DM have higher cholesterol absorption compared to normals and those with type 2 DM have higher cholesterol synthesis. Since statins inhibit synthesis, patients with type 1 DM may not have a good response and may respond better to cholesterol absorption inhibitors. The purpose of this study is to determine the cholesterol lowering effects of cholesterol absorption inhibitors and cholesterol synthesis inhibitors in subjects with type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Study to Compare Welchol and TriCor to TriCor Alone in Patients With High Cholesterol
HypercholesterolemiaHyperlipidemia1 moreThe primary objective of this study is to compare the effect of Welchol in combination with TriCor compared to TriCor alone on low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) in patients with high cholesterol.
A Study of Ezetimibe Added On to Rosuvastatin Versus Up Titration of Rosuvastatin in Patients With...
HypercholesterolemiaA study to evaluate the low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) lowering efficacy of the addition of ezetimibe to rosuvastatin compared with doubling dose of rosuvastatin in participants treated with rosuvastatin alone and not at their National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III (NCEP ATP III) LDL-C goal
Comparison of the Effect of Vytorin 10/80 Tablet Split Into 4 and Simvastatin 20 Milligrams on Low-density...
HypercholesterolemiaThe purpose of this study is to compare the efficacy of a Vytorin 10/80 tablet, an approved agent for the treatment of elevated LDL cholesterol which combines the cholesterol absorption inhibitor Ezetimibe 10 mg and simvastatin 80 mg, when split into 4 using a tablet splitter, versus a whole simvastatin 20 milligram tablet.
