The Role of Atorvastatin on Monocyte Function in Patients With Coronary Artery Disease and Hypercholesterolemia...
Coronary Artery DiseaseHypercholesterolemia1 moreThe aim of this study is to determine, whether an intensified atorvastatin therapy can improve monocyte function in patients with coronary artery disease and hypercholesterolemia.
The Effect of Broccoli Sprouts as a Nutritional Supplement in the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease...
Diabetes MellitusHypertension2 moreThe purpose of this study is to investigate whether a daily intake of dried broccoli sprouts will improve the endothelial function of the participants as measured by Flow mediated dilation (FMD) The dried sprouts are chosen because broccoli sprouts are known as containing large amounts af the glucosinolate glucoraphanin which in vitro and in animal models has been shown to have a positive effect on the endothelium as measured by NO release.
Phytosterol Supplementation and Cardiovascular Risk
HypercholesteremiaThis study examined the effects of 2.6 g/d of phytosterol ingestion on LDL cholesterol metabolism. It is expected that this dose will significantly reduce LDL cholesterol after 12 weeks of supplementation.
China Plant Sterol Trial
HypercholesterolemiaCardiovascular DiseasesThe aim of this study is to see if plant sterols are effective at lowering blood cholesterol levels in Chinese people. The study will be done with Chinese colleagues based at Peking University in Beijing with whom our Institute has a well-established collaboration. The study will be randomised, placebo-controlled and double-blind. The total study period for participants will be an average of seven weeks comprised of a two-week placebo run-in period and a five-week follow-up on randomised treatment. Randomised treatment will comprise either placebo, low- or standard-dose plant sterol. The primary outcome for the study will be blood cholesterol levels.
Clinical Trial of Protein and Blood Pressure
HypertensionHypercholesterolemiaThe purpose of this randomized, double-blind, controlled trial is to examine the effect of soybean protein supplementation on blood pressure in persons with prehypertension or stage-1 hypertension.
Antihypertensive and Lipid-Lowering Treatment to Prevent Heart Attack Trial (ALLHAT)
Cardiovascular DiseasesCoronary Disease7 moreTo determine if the combined incidence of nonfatal myocardial infarction and coronary heart disease death differs between diuretic-based and each of three alternative antihypertensive pharmacological treatments. Also, to determine, in a subset of this population, if lowering serum cholesterol with a HMG CoA reductase inhibitor in older adults reduces all-cause mortality compared to a control group receiving usual care. Conducted in conjunction with the Department of Veterans' Affairs.
A Prospective Cohort Study on Familial Hypercholesterolemia in Health Examination Population
Familial HypercholesterolemiaTo determine the prevalence and the prognosis in a corhort of patients with familial hypercholesterolemia (FH).
Cross-over Pilot Study of Blood Cholesterol Response to Dietary Saturated Fat in Patients With Autosomal...
Familial HypercholesterolemiaWe are performing a pilot cross-over diet study involving 5 patients with heterozygous FH and 5 patients with unexplained ADH. The patients will be randomized to a low versus high saturated fat diet for 4 weeks each. We hypothesize that patients with unexplained ADH may have an exaggerated cholesterol response to saturated fat intake. The specific aim of this study is to quantify the increase in LDL-C in unexplained ADH patients compared to FH patients. The pilot study proposed here will develop preliminary data to be used for future funding proposals of larger, randomized studies.
Clinical Trial to Evaluate the Efficacy and Safety of DP-R212
HypertensionHypercholesterolemiaThe purpose of this study is to determine superiority of DP-R212 comparing to each monotherapy in patient with hypertension and primary hypercholesterolemia.
