Medication Adherence With Polyglot Meducation
HypertensionDiabetes1 moreThe investigators propose a 6 month pre-post, pilot, feasibility study with up to 25 individuals among veterans with cardiovascular disease risk factors including Hypertension (HT), Diabetes Mellitis (DM) and Hyperlipidemia (HL) who receive care from the hospital-based primary care clinics associated with Durham VAMC. The investigators will examine veteran's perception and ease of using an innovative tool to help improve medication adherence to cardiovascular medications. This study aims to focus on patients with multiple chronic conditions and their caregivers to address 1) appropriate use of medications 2)maximize patient self-care and care by families and other caregivers 3) make available a tool for medication management 4) managing complex regimens, and 5) addressing health literacy.
Role of Milk Fat Globule Membranes in Dairy Foods: Health Effects in Humans
HypercholesterolemiaInvestigate the effects of milk fat with or without milk fat globule membranes (MFGM) on blood lipid profile, vascular function, insulin sensitivity, inflammation and gene expression. Overweight subjects will be randomized to one of 2 groups with different types of dairy products: 1)butter oil; 2) cream (milk fat with MFGM).
Single Oral Dose of BeneFlax to Healthy Young and Older Adults
Diabetes MellitusType 21 moreThis study is being done to look at age differences in the way the investigators bodies break down a compound found in flax seed (secoisolariciresinol diglucoside or SDG). It is administered to research subjects in a product called BeneFlax, which a concentrated version of flax seed containing 38% SDG. It is known that as people age, their bodies undergo physical changes both on the outside and the inside. The aging process may change the way that the investigators bodies deal with compounds the investigators eat. As an important measure of safety, the investigators want to check for evidence whether there is a difference in break down of SDG between different age groups.
Effect of the Consumption of a Fermented Milk Enriched With Plant Sterols (Italy)
Mildly Hypercholesterolemic SubjectsThe purpose of this study is to investigate the cholesterol lowering effect of a drinkable low fat fermented milk enriched with plant sterol after 3 and 6 weeks of daily consumption in mildly hypercholesterolemic people treated or not by statins

8-Week PK/PD Atorvastatin Study In Children And Adolescents With Heterozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia...
Pediatric Heterozygous HypercholesterolemiaTo evaluate pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, safety and tolerability of atorvastatin in children and adolescents with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia
Effect of High Stanol Ester Dose on Serum Lipids, Carotenoids and Fat-soluble Vitamins
HypercholesterolemiaThe aim was to investigate the effects of the consumption of high doses of plant stanol esters on concentrations of serum lipids, carotenoids and fat soluble vitamins. In addition, we investigated the metabolism of absorbed plant sterols from intestine without and with the consumption of plant stanol esters.
Addition of Phytosterols to a Low Phytosterol Diet
HypercholesterolemiaCoronary Heart DiseaseStudies have shown that phytosterols will lower LDL cholesterol. Typical diets can contain between 250 to 500 mg of naturally-occurring phytosterols. Long-term studies with phytosterol-containing products(such as margarines) have not taken into account the amounts of naturally occurring phytosterols in the diet. This means that the effects of small amounts of natural dietary phytosterols on LDL cholesterol are not known. In this study, we will examine the effects of phytosterols across a range of levels. The information will likely be used to further support and possibly extend the current dietary recommendations for phytosterol use.

HypercholesterolemiaThe objective of this study is to investigate the effect of Lactobacillus Delbruckii lactis (DN111244) fermented milk consumption on relative change of plasma LDL-cholesterol concentration in hypercholesterolaemic adults after 8 weeks of product consumption versus control product.
