TCD Detection of Gas and Solid Micro-Emboli in Patients Undergoing Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting...
Intracranial Embolism and ThrombosisPostoperative ComplicationsThe purpose of this study is to test the hypothesis that using three different techniques to anastomose coronary grafts to the aorta: partial occlusion, single cross clamp, or using the Heartstring anastomotic device, will change the amount of gas and solid microemboli as detected by the EmbodopR transcranial Doppler (TCD) system and consequently the neurocognitive performance of patients after coronary bypass operation.
Platelet Activity in Vascular Surgery for Thrombosis and Bleeding
Peripheral Vascular DiseasePeripheral Artery Disease9 moreThe proposed PIVOTAL study will examine a panel of platelet/coagulation activity markers during the perioperative period. The goal is to develop a clinically useful assessment of platelet/coagulation activity for risk stratification that may ultimately serve as a target for therapeutic intervention. This study will enroll 200 patients with peripheral artery disease undergoing vascular surgery. PIVOTAL is funded by American Heart Association and is scheduled to begin enrollment in July 2013 for approximately two years.
Risk of Venous Thromboembolism in Critically Ill Patients With Severe COVID-19
COVID-19Critical Illness9 moreSevere COVID-19 patients at a high risk of venous thromboembolism. We studied patients in 2 intensive care units of university hospitals in Barcelona and Badalona, Spain. We performed a cut-off screening of deep venous thrombosis (DVT) with bilateral duplex ultrasound to 230 patients.
Risk Stratification for Venous Thromboembolism in Hospitalized Medical Patients
Venous ThromboembolismVenous Thromboses5 moreHospital-acquired venous thromboembolism (HA-VTE) is one of the leading preventable causes of in-hospital mortality, but prevention of VTE in hospitalized medical patients remains challenging, as preventive measures such as pharmacological thromboprophylaxis (TPX) need to be tailored to individual thrombotic risk. The broad objective of this project is to improve VTE prevention strategies in hospitalized medical patients by prospectively examining VTE risk factors (including mobility) and comparing existing risk assessment models.
Registry of AngioJet Use in the Peripheral Vascular System
Peripheral Vascular DiseaseEmbolism and Thrombosis1 moreThe Registry involves the collection of information for research and educational purposes only on the use of AngioJet in the peripheral vascular system.
COVID-19, bLOod Coagulation and Thrombosis
COVIDEmbolism and Thrombosis2 moreCoronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV2) has been identified as the pathogen responsible for severe acute respiratory syndrome associated with severe inflammatory syndrome and pneumonia (COVID-19). Haemostasis abnormalities have been shown to be associated with a poor prognosis in these patients with this pneumonia. In a Chinese series of 183 patients, the hemostasis balance including thrombin time, fibrinogenemia, fibrin degradation products and antithrombin III were within normal limits. Only the D-Dimer assay was positive in the whole cohort with an average rate of 0.66 µg / mL (normal <50 µg / mL). These hemostasis parameters were abnormal mainly in patients who died during their management; the levels of D-dimers and fibrin degradation products were significantly higher while the antithrombin III was reduced. The findings on the particular elevation of D-dimers in deceased patients as well as the significant increase in thrombin time were also reported in another series. Higher numbers of pulmonary embolisms have been reported in patients with severe form of SARS-COV2 (data in press). This research is based on the hypothesis that the existence of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) could make it possible to screen patients at risk of pulmonary embolism and to set up a curative anticoagulation. The main objective is to describe the prevalence of deep vein thrombosis in patients hospitalized in intensive care for acute respiratory failure linked to documented SARS-COV2 pneumonia, within 24 hours of their admission.
Radial Artery Occlusion After Endovascular Procedure
Embolism and Thrombosis of the Radial ArteryObservational cohort registry: prospective, multicenter independent evaluation of patients who undergo coronary angiography and/or PCI via radial artery. The purpose of this registry is to set the incidence of RAO according to ACT values, considered both as continuous and ordinal variable and its determinants. Coronary angiography and PCI will be performed according to usual practice.
Influence of Diagnostic Errors on the Prognosis of Acute Pulmonary Embolism
Pulmonary EmbolismPulmonary Embolism and Thrombosis3 moreDiagnostic errors have been reported frequently in patient with pulmonary embolism since symptoms are not specific. However, there is only scarce evidence that the delay associated with diagnostic errors may impact patient prognosis. The aim of this study is to determine the frequency of diagnostic errors and if they are associated with more severe pulmonary embolism in term of initial presentation and complications.
Lung Perfusion Measured With Dual-Energy CT in Patients With Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension:...
Multidetector Computed TomographyPulmonary Embolism and Thrombosis1 moreA comparative, observational, cross-sectional and prolective diagnostic test study, including patients that have had a right heart catheterization and were referred for a CT pulmonary angiography as part of their imaging workup protocol for pulmonary hypertension. Dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) pulmonary angiography was performed on each patient to obtain perfusion maps and do a quantitative analysis. Segments with and without perfusion defects according to significant differences in the quantitative values, were defined as compatible or not with chronic thromboembolism. To assess the accuracy of the method and evaluate its performance, these results were compared with the sole results from the right heart catheterization, known to be the gold standard diagnostic tool.
