Improving the Quality of End-of-Life Communication for Patients With Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary...
Pulmonary DiseaseCOPD2 moreThe purpose of this study is to evaluate a multifaceted intervention to improve the quality of end-of-life communication between patients with COPD and their primary care providers using information about patients preferences for end of life care and how to communicate and use this information to activate patients, family members, and healthcare providers.
Targeting Pulmonary Perfusion in Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency
Alpha-1 Antitrypsin DeficiencyEmphysema1 moreThe aim of this study is to test whether aspirin improves endothelial function in alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency-associated lung disease, measured by pulmonary microvascular blood flow on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and with apoptotic endothelial microparticles.
Hypoxic Pulmonary Vasoconstriction Pilot Study
EmphysemaThe purpose of this study is to determine if the events leading to smoking-associated centrilobular and paraseptal emphysema are caused by a failure of the lungs' inherent mechanisms to block hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction (HPV) in areas of smoking-induced inflammation.
Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease3 moreThe purpose of the study is to determine the efficacy of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) as an add-on to pulmonary rehabilitation (treatment as usual, TAU) in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The investigators hypothesize that compared to treatment-as-usual, the add-on of MBCT will result in improved psychological (anxiety, depression) and physical outcomes (physical health status, activity level, inflammatory markers). Furthermore, the investigators will explore the possible moderating role of individual differences in sociodemographic and disease-related characteristics and the perceived quality of the therapeutic alliance, as well as the mediating role of mindfulness, breathlessness catastrophizing, self-efficacy, and self-compassion for the hypothesised effect.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation Before Lung Cancer Resection
Lung CancerCOPD2 moreThis study seeks to study the effectiveness of a short mindfulness based pulmonary rehabilitation program prior to a surgical resection in patients with lung cancer and severe Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (COPD).
Home Pulmonary Rehabilitation for COPD
COPDEmphysemaWhile pulmonary rehabilitation provides benefits to people with COPD, only 25% have access to pulmonary rehabilitation each year. The main barriers are related to travel and transportation. This protocol will evaluate the effect of a home-based rehabilitation system on quality of life and steps. The system allows for monitoring by a health care system. A health coach will review the data and provide coaching to facilitate behavioral change and self-efficacy.
Real-Time Support for Exercise Persistence in COPD
Pulmonary DiseaseChronic Obstructive3 moreThe purpose of this exploratory study is to determine the feasibility, acceptability, and efficacy of an exercise persistence intervention for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) following pulmonary rehabilitation (PR).
Improvement of Sleep Quality by RePneu® Coils in Advanced Pulmonary Emphysema
COPDEmphysemaImprovement of sleep quality in emphysema patients is desirable. Yet, there are no data of patients treated with RePneu coils. This monocenter prospective study investigates the effect on sleep quality of RePneu coils for reduction of dynamic hyperinflation in advanced disease stages of pulmonary emphysema. Patient's sleep will be studied in three Polysomnography measurement nights, one prior to Coil Treatment, one six months after, and one twelve month after. Primary objective is to investigate differences in sleep quality 6 and 12 months after Coil Treatment. Further endpoints are changes in daily activity and sleep (actigraphy), 6MWT, lung function parameters, and questionnaires (SGRQ, mMRC dyspnoe scale).
Emphysema: Physiologic Effects of Nutritional Support
EmphysemaLung Diseases3 moreTo determine if enteral nutrition support (ENS) restores normal body weight and improves muscle strength, exercise performance, sensation of dyspnea, and quality of life in malnourished patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Safety Study of Endobronchial Transplantation of Autologous Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) in Emphysema...
EmphysemaThe purpose of this study is evaluating the safety of endobronchial transplantation of autologous mesenchymal stem cells derived bone marrow in patients with emphysema.
