Chronic Fatigue Etiology and Recovery in Covid-19 Patients: the Role of Fatigability
Chronic Fatigue SyndromeIntensive Care Unit1 moreChronic fatigue is the most common and debilitating symptom in intensive care unit (ICU) survivors. Indeed, it has been widely reported that patients who stayed in ICU for prolonged periods report a feeling of tiredness for months to years after ICU discharge. This symptom seems particularly pronounced in Covid-19 patients and may affect their quality of life by decreasing their capacity to perform simple tasks of daily life. The aim of the present project is to determine whether deteriorated neuromuscular function (i.e. increased fatigability) is involved in the feeling of fatigue of Covid-19 patients. Because the causes of this feeling are multi-dimensional, a large battery of tests will allow us to better understand the origin of chronic fatigue. A better knowledge of chronic fatigue etiology and its recovery will allow to optimize rehabilitation treatments to shorten the persistence of chronic fatigue and in fine improve life quality.
Tracking Peripheral Immune Cell Infiltration of the Brain in Central Inflammatory Disorders Using...
FibromyalgiaChronic Fatigue Syndrome2 moreThis study will use brain Positron Emission Tomography/ Magnetic Resonance Imaging (PET/MRI) and an investigational radioactive drug called [Zr-89]oxine to track the location of white blood cells (also called leukocytes) in the body. PET/MRI will be used to visualize labeled white blood cells and determine if they enter the central nervous system in conditions associated with brain inflammation (also called neuroinflammation). By better understanding the role of neuroinflammation in fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and multiple sclerosis, the investigator hopes to be able to better diagnose and treat patients in the future.
Monitoring of Chronic Conditions in Breast Cancer
Breast CancerChronic Fatigue SyndromeREBECCA-1 is an observational study. Clinical research is undergoing a revolutionary change. The use of electronic patient records (EHR), digital registers, smartphones etc will create "real-world data" (RWD) that provides great opportunities for advancing clinical research, but so far this opportunity has been little exploited. The REBECCA -1 study will observe and monitor fatigue in breast cancer survivors. Investigators will use self reported questionnaires (PROM-data), blood tests and objective regulations like the REBECCCA -1 smart watch that will register amount of steps every day, leaving the house, visiting friends, cafes etc. There will be three observational arms; 1.high fatigue, 2. low fatigue and 3. a healthy control arm. After the patients have finished their treatment, they will receive the REBECCA smart watch, a REBECCA app on the smart phone and a REBECCA plus device on their computer, The next offend are also invited to report their evaluation through the same apps. The observational time will be 1 year and comparison between the subjective PROM data , the objective REBECCA watch and the biological samples will be obtained.
Improving Post COVID-19 Syndrome With Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatments
Post COVID-19 ConditionPost-COVID-19 Syndrome5 moreOver 500 million people have been infected with COVID-19, and to date, more than 6 million people have died. Many individuals who have recovered from COVID-19 continue to experience symptoms even after they have been "cured" of the disease. This condition is known as post COVID-19 Condition, which can have serious health consequences. A common symptom among these individuals is chronic fatigue, characterized by persistent tiredness or lack of energy. This study aims to explore a novel treatment for symptoms of post COVID-19 condition, known as hyperbaric oxygen therapy. This approach has shown promise in helping people with post COVID-19 conditions and treating some other causes of fatigue. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy involves placing patients in a small chamber where they receive high oxygen gas levels. However, this treatment is expensive and time-consuming, and it is unclear if this treatment can be effectively assessed in a large-scale research study. This small study will help us decide if conducting a large research study is feasible. The investigators aim to assess if hyperbaric oxygen therapy can improve symptoms of post COVID-19 condition, such as fatigue.
Rehabilitation Therapy for Post COVID 19 Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Post-COVID-19 SyndromeThe aim of this study is to investigate the effect of intensive combined rehabilitation therapy in form of Graded Exercise Therapy (GET) , Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to treat patients with post COVID19 chronic fatigue syndrome .
Post-COVID-19 Outpatient Care and Biomarkers
Post Viral FatigueViral Myocarditis1 moreThe aims of this case-control, non-randomized study including patients with post-COVID-19 persisting symptoms are 1) to establish the large blood biobank, 2) to examine levels of circulating inflammatory biomarkers and different classes of non-coding RNAs (ncRNA), such as selected circRNAs and miRNAs, in plasma and serum samples collected from patients with post- COVID-19, 3) to test the levels of cfDNA in plasma and serum, 4) to define correlation between ncRNAs and cf-DNA with persistent clinical symptoms, and type of symptoms, and 5) to investigate diagnostic and prognostic performances of these circulating biomarkers. Study design. This is a prospective registry including biobank.
Study to Investigate Improvement in Physical Function in SF-36 With Vericiguat Compared With Placebo...
Post-COVID ME/CFSThe goal of this clinical trial is to evaluate the therapeutic value of an approved drug (Vericiguat) in patients with post-COVID-19 syndrome, who suffer from profound tiredness or fatigue, regardless of bed rest. The main questions it aims to answer are: • Does Vericiguat relieve fatigue and/or other symptoms associated with post-COVID-19 syndrome? • What are the side effects of Vericiguat in this patient population; and how common are they? Participants will be asked to participate for approx. 18 weeks. After screening, participants will receive assigned intervention of either 10 weeks of treatment with Vericiguat or matching placebo tablet, followed by 30 day follow-up period. Every participant will undergo trial, cardiovascular safety, and monitoring assessments. The results of this study will provide information on whether Vericiguat can alleviate PCS-related symptoms as well as insights into the pathophysiological processes of PCS, which in turn can help to develop therapies.
Assessment of Exercise Response in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome / Myalgic Encephalomyelitis.
Fatigue SyndromeChronicThis study evaluates the correlation between the 6-min walking test (6MWT) with gases measurement, and the peak cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) using incremental cycling with gases and workload measurement, in order to determine if the 6MWT detects impairment in exercise tolerance and if it avoids the post-exertional malaise that the peak CPET causes on decreasing levels of physical activity, in participants affected by chronic fatigue syndrome/ myalgic encephalomyelitis (CFS/ME). Physical activity level at baseline (usual activity, the parcipant will not be given any directions) will be recorded during 7 days, 24 hours/day. Afterwards, the 6MWT will be performed. After this test, the physical activity level will be collected again during 7 days, 24 hours/day. Peak CPET will be carried out 14 days after 6MWT to make sure that the basal levels are recovered, and finally, physical activity level will be collected again during 7 days, 24 hours/day.
Evaluation of the Effects of Treatment With Bioarginin C in Adult Subjects Belonging to the Post-Covid...
Fatigue SyndromeChronic1 moreLong Covid could be much more frequent than it is thought to be. Few dwell on the great problem represented by the post covid syndrome. The virus often leaves important marks on our body, and those who recover face problems of various kinds: chronic fatigue, shortness of breath, dry cough, headache, cognitive difficulties. On the duration and resolution of this syndrome, now recognized as a highly debilitating condition, there are still no great answers: for this reason it is always important to emphasize that contracting Covid, even in a not serious form, still means exposing oneself to long-term risks that are still not well codified by the scientific community. Guidelines and more tools are expected to best assist these patients.
Repeat Immunoadsorption Post Covid ME/CFS
Post-COVID ME/CFSThe evidence for an autoimmune etiology in postinfectious myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) is growing. The investigators observed in a not yet published study that in ME/CFS triggered by COVID, similar to ME/CFS after other infections, there is a close correlation of ß2 adrenergic receptor (ß2R) autoantibodies with symptom severity. Immunoadsorption (IA) to remove autoantibodies has been used successfully in many autoantibody-mediated diseases. The investigators have already performed two proof of concept studies of IA in postinfectious ME/CFS with elevated ß2R antibodies, which resulted in improvement in most patients. This observational study aims to assess symptom outcome and functional ability in 20 patients with Post-COVID Syndrome (PCS) meeting ME/CFS diagnostic criteria with elevated ß2R antibodies undergoing antibody depletion by IA. The study will be conducted as a non-interventional observational study. IA with Miltenyi's TheraSorb® column in PCS will be performed in the approved use. Patients who have symptom improvement after the 1st IA will receive two additional IAs at 3 and 6 months, which will also be documented. The results of this observational study will provide the basis for a randomized controlled clinical trial (RCT) combining IA with B-cell depletion therapy preferentially with Obinutuzumab.
