Endocrine Changes in Adults Undergoing Cardiac Surgery

Endocrine System DiseasesCardiac Surgery3 more

In this prospective study the investigators want to measure the serum level changes of the thyroid hormones (thyroid-stimulating hormone, reverse triiodothyronine, serum free T4), brain natriuretic peptide (BNP), testosterone and sexual hormone binding protein (SHBG) in adults undergoing cardiac surgery and search for correlations different psychosocial factors and analyze the influence on the survival and the length of ICU/hospital stay.

Hormonal Regulation of Body Weight Maintenance

ObesityWeight Loss5 more

The investigators here propose to perform a collaborative clinical research effort including a randomized controlled trial investigating the mechanisms of weight maintenance and their relation to a lifestyle intervention in children, adolescents and adults. The detailed investigation and analysis of the variability and dynamics of the endocrine circuits responding to a negative energy balance and weight loss will be accompanied and enhanced by specific clinical projects targeting peripheral and central-nervous aspects of hormonal counter-regulation after weight loss. Mechanisms of endocrine counter-regulation and potential therapeutic approaches will be studied.

Incidence of cCPHD in Denmark - a National Observational Study

Combined Pituitary Hormone Deficiency Genetic FormCombined Pituitary Hormone Deficiency

The pituitary gland is a small pea-sized gland that produces a variety of important hormones. Some children are born with a deficient production of two or more pituitary hormones. This rare and potentially severe disease is called congenital combined pituitary hormone deficiency (cCPHD). cCPHD can cause many different symptoms, some of which appear shortly after birth and others later in childhood. Symptoms that appear shortly after birth are e.g., development of very low blood sugar, disturbances in the salt balance, and severe dehydration, whereas symptoms that appear later in life are short stature, missing pubertal development, fatigue, and sensitiveness to cold. Fortunately, it is possible to replace the missing hormones. Currently, it is unknown how common cCPHD is. Therefore, the investigators wish to examine 1) how many children are diagnosed with cCPHD before the age of 18 years, 2) how many children are diagnosed with cCPHD at age <1 year, 1-8 years, 9-17 years, and 3) the patients' hormone deficiency characteristics and brain MRI scans. The investigators will identify the patients by searching for diagnosis codes used for pituitary disease and pituitary malformations in the Danish National Patient Registry and locally at the four hospitals approved for the treatment of cCPHD in children. Through the searches, the investigators expect to identify approximately 1500 patients. The investigators will then review the hospital files of all identified patients to exclude patients with only one hormone deficiency and patients with an acquired cause of the disease. The investigators aim to include all cCPHD patients in Denmark born in the period 1996 and 2020.

Testosterone Plus Finasteride Treatment After Spinal Cord Injury

Spinal Cord InjurySpinal Cord Injuries11 more

The purpose of this study is to determine whether testosterone plus finasteride treatment will improve musculoskeletal health, neuromuscular function, body composition, and metabolic health in hypogonadal men who have experienced ambulatory dysfunction subsequent to incomplete spinal cord injury. The investigators hypothesize that this treatment will improve bone mineral density, enhance muscle size and muscle function, and improve body composition, without causing prostate enlargement.

The Glucagon Stimulation Test for Evaluation of Adult Growth Hormone Deficiency and Adrenocorticotropic...

Adult Growth Hormone DeficiencyHypothalamic-pituitary Disorders

The purpose of this study is to find out if the Glucagon Stimulation Test (GST) is a reliable alternative to the Insulin Tolerance Test (ITT) for diagnosis of Growth Hormone Deficiency (GHD) and adrenal insufficiency. In some patients the accuracy of the GST for evaluation of adrenal insufficiency is compared to the adrenocorticotropin hormone (ACTH ) stimulation test.

Validation of Macimorelin as a Test for Adult Growth Hormone Deficiency

Growth Hormone Deficiency With Pituitary Anomalies

The Macimorelin Growth Hormone Stimulation Test (GHST) will be compared with the Insulin Tolerance Test (ITT) in an open-label, randomized, 2-way crossover Trial. The trial will include subjects suspected to have adult growth hormone deficiency (AGHD) and a group of healthy control subjects.

Comparison of A New Technique of Measure of the Insulin Resistance By Scintigraphy With the Reference...

Diabetes MellitusInsulin Resistance3 more

Insulin resistance is closely associated with apparition of type 2 diabetes mellitus; it is an independent risk factor and predicts future cardiovascular events. Hyperinsulinemic euglycemic clamp is a validated method to assessment of insulin resistance and It is also the gold standard technique. However, the complexity and length of this technique render it unsuitable for routine clinical use. In this study, the investigators use a new technique to provide precise, objective, fast and automated quantification of insulin resistance with camera SPECT. They compare the results with those of the measurement of hyperinsulinemic euglycemic clamp in population with or without insulin resistance. The proposed study is to validate this new non-invasive imaging technique for evaluation of insulin resistance in patients with or without insulin resistance with a comparison with hyperinsulinemic euglycemic clamp.
