Exercise as a Preventive Agent to Combat Immobility in Patients With Ovarian or Endometrial Cancers...

Ovarian CancerOvarian Carcinoma5 more

The purpose of this research is to determine whether a 16-week virtually supervised aerobic and resistance exercise program is feasible in patients receiving first-line chemotherapy after surgery for ovarian or endometrial cancer and if it will improve lower extremity function (function of the legs), lessen chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN; numbness or tingling in the hands or feet), and if there is any effect on inflammatory blood markers (the level of a certain marker in the blood that is associated with inflammation; redness and swelling).

Prehabilitation in Gynaecological Cancer Patients

Ovarian CancerOvarian Cancer Stage III3 more

Prehabilitation refers to interventions aiming to improve patients' resilience and functional capacity before a known stressful event, e.g., scheduled surgery. These interventions usually consist of physical activity and psychological and nutritional support. There is substantial evidence of the positive effect of multimodal prehabilitation among patients treated surgically for non-gynaecological cancers; however, no prospective data are available in gynaecological cancer patients. PHOCUS trial is a prospective randomised trial aiming to evaluate the role of multimodal prehabilitation in patients with gynaecological cancer. Sixty-four patients will be randomised in single institution within 36 months with a 1:1 ratio into ARM A: control arm which will be provided with a basic information and standard of care support; ARM B: active arm undergoing multimodal prehabilitation composed of physical activity and psychological and nutritional support. All patients will be assessed at standard intervals (three times during the trial) by a spectrum of non-invasive tests, evaluating physical functional capacity, postoperative morbidity, nutritional status, level of stress and anxiety, and quality of life.

An Individualised and Patient-centred Follow-up Program for Women With Gynaecological Cancer

EmpowermentCervical Cancer4 more

This randomized controlled trial is testing the hypothesis that an individually focused and need-based nurse led follow-up program supported by electronic Patient Reported Outcome Measures for women with gynecological cancer will improve patient's empowerment, quality of life and involvement in the follow-up process besides reducing the patient's fear of cancer recurrence and degree of psychological distress, compared with a doctor led follow-up program. Further, nurse led follow-up by telephone, may reduce resources of the department as well as of the patients.

The Lifestyle and Empowerment Techniques in Survivorship of Gynecologic Oncology Study

Gynecologic CancerGynecologic Neoplasm4 more

This study compares traditional follow-up of gynaecological cancer patients to an alternative follow-up model. In the alternative follow-up model the patients will meet a nurse at every second consultation. The nurse will focus on psychosocial health and educate the patients in the use of a study specific smartphone-application.

Immunoassay and Regulation of Traditional Chinese Medicine on Cancer Patients

Breast CancerColorectal Cancer2 more

The immune system is our body's defense mechanism, which helps us to resist foreign pathogens and cancer cells in the body. However, if the immune system is too weak, too strong, or unbalanced, it will be susceptible to get bacterial and viral infections, unable to fight cancer, or cause allergies, autoimmune and rheumatic diseases. At present, there is no good western medicine to strengthen immunity when the body is insufficient immunity. However, strong immunity causes autoimmune diseases and need to be treated by steroids and immunosuppressive agents. These drugs have limited efficacy and often have many side effects. In the clinical practice of traditional Chinese medicine, tonify qi, supplement blood and nourish yin are often used to enhance immunity. However, there is no clinical test to demonstrate the modulation of immune response after traditional Chinese medicine treatment. In our preliminary study, the investigators identified that the basic immune response of cancer patients is weaker than healthy people by testing the level of IFN-r (promoting T cell activity, anti-tumor, anti-viral), TNF-a (promoting B cell proliferation, producing antibodies, anti-tumor, anti-viral) and IL-2 (regulate the proliferation and differentiation). Besides, some Chinese herbal extracts can significantly stimulate the immune response higher than the general average basic immunity of cancer patients. Further, we will use the stimulatory Chinese medicine extract to administer to cancer patients and examine the immune response of cancer patients after taking them. Therefore, this test can provide actual data on the basic immunity of healthy people or cancer patients and the modulation of immune response by traditional Chinese medicine treatment. This analysis platform provides patients to select the medicines that can enhance the immune response for individuals and analyze the changes of the immune response after conditioning with the candidate Chinese medicines. Therefore, this test could be applied clinically to validate the immunological regulation of Chinese herbal medicine as well as analyze the immunological modulation against different cancer by various Chinese herbal medicine.

Optimal Margin Evaluation of Online Adaptive Radiotherapy for Postoperative Treatment of Endometrial...

Uterine Cervical NeoplasmEndometrial Neoplasms

Online adaptive radiotherapy has demonstrated to be feasible to reduce inter-fractional radiotherapy errors as it re-optimizes treatment plan every fraction. To investigate the extent and value of margin reduction,we conduct a prospective clinical trial to determine the optimal margin and toxicity of smaller margin.
