Serum Biomarkers in Diagnosis and Predicting Prognosis of Ovarian Cancers
Endometrial NeoplasmsOvarian NeoplasmsThis study evaluates the usefulness of serum levels of trefoil factor 3 (TFF3), secreted frizzled related protein 4 (sFRP-4), reactive oxygen species modulator 1 (Romo1) and nuclear factor (NF)-κB as potential diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers in ovarian carcinoma.
FESPET Study: Female EStrogen recePtor in Endometrial Cancer Treatment
Endometrial CancerEndometrial cancer is the most common gynecological malignancy in the western world and its incidence is expected to increase in the coming years due to obesity. Major treatment modalities include surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Hormonal therapy can be considered in primary treatment if other treatment modalities are not feasible and in treatment for recurrent disease. Hormonal treatment has shown to be more effective in endometrial cancers expressing estrogen (ER) and progesterone receptor (PR). Tumor heterogeneity frequently causes loss of expression of ER and PR in metastasis compared to primary tumors. The FES PET CT scan combines PET-CT scan with an estrogen tracer, thus allowing non invasive visualisation of estrogen receptor, even in patients with metastasis that are difficult to reach for biopsy. FES PET has been shown to relate well to ER expression and to treatment response in breast cancer. This study explores the feasibility of the FES PET scan in endometrial cancer patients.

HORIZONS: Understanding the Impact of Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment on Everyday Life
Breast Cancer FemaleBreast Neoplasm18 moreThe purpose of this study is to invite all people diagnosed with cancer who meet the eligibility criteria to complete questionnaires before their treatment begins and at regular intervals over time to assess the impact of cancer and its treatment on people's lives in the short, medium and long term. We will explore a range of factors to determine their role in both recovery of health and well-being and self-management. Although it is known that people who have had cancer are likely to experience a number of physical and psychological problems as a result of the disease and treatment, it is not known what the 'typical' course of recovery of health and well-being looks like, how long it takes and how this can be influenced. We will determine pathways to recovery of health and well-being following cancer diagnosis (initially breast cancer diagnosed <50 years, Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma and gynaecological cancers) and identify what factors influence this. This includes assessing the relative importance of the person's illness, personal attributes, perceived burden of treatment, role of the environment they live in, including health / social care and personal networks of support, and their ability and capacity to self-manage. We will identify who is most at risk of problems and what environmental supports and resources people are able to mobilise to support their self-management. We will also explore who has the confidence and ability to manage during and beyond treatment and what factors influence this and whether this leads to earlier problem resolution and restoration of health and well-being. This knowledge will be used to develop and test future supportive interventions to enhance the rapid recovery of health and well-being - our long term aim being to design ways of helping people with cancer in areas we identify as problematic for them.
Usefulness of 18F-FDG PET/CT in the Initial Staging and Surveillance of Endometrial Cancer Patients...
Endometrial CancerTo assess the value of 18F-FDG PET/CT in the initial staging and detection of recurrent cases of endometrial cancer. To determine correlation between PET/CT derived parameters including SUVmax, TLG and MTV and clinic-pathological patient characteristics. To detect local and distant recurrence after therapy.
Role of Biomarkers in Endometrial Cancer Recurrence in Samples From Patients With Stage II, Stage...
Endometrial CancerRATIONALE: Studying samples of blood and tissue from patients with cancer in the laboratory may help doctors identify and learn more about biomarkers related to cancer. PURPOSE: This research study is studying the role of biomarkers in endometrial cancer recurrence in samples from patients with stage II, stage III, or stage IV endometrial cancer.
Complications of Laparoscopic Hysterectomy and Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy for Endometrial Carcinoma...
Laparoscopic Hysterectomy and Sentinel Lymph Node BiopsyEndometrial adenocarcinoma is believed to be a more treatable malignancy. Poor prognosis is associated with age, grade and depth of myometrial invasion, lymph node status, tumor size, invasion of lymphovascular space and involvement of the lower uterine segment. Sentinel lymph node (SLN) mapping can be considered as an al¬ternative to standard lymphadenectomy in the patients with apparently uterine-confined disease and to assess whether they have metastatic pelvic lymph nodes. Randomized trials, a Cochrane Database Systematic Review, and population-based surgical studies support minimally invasive techniques due to a lower rate of surgical site infection, ve¬nous thromboembolism, reduced hospitalisation, and lower cost of care. This is a one arm clinical trial pilot study that focuses on the intraoperative and early postoperative complications of laparoscopic hysterectomy in patients with endometrial carcinoma and assess the feasibility and the diagnostic reliability of sentinel lymph node biopsy.
