This is a clinical trial to determine how effective antibiotics administered prior to endoscopic carpal tunnel release surgery are in preventing surgical site infections.

To compare local steroid injections to local Botulinum toxin A injection in a double-blinded study.

The study hypothesis is that there is a relationship between the keyboard layout and carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). Specifically, use of the standard QWERTY keyboard increases the risk of symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome. The QWERTY keyboard requires more effort by the fingers than necessary to perform the required work, i.e. data or word entry; up to 200 percent more flexion and extension and 100 percent more distance traveled. The purpose of the protocol is to evaluate two keyboard layouts for carpal tunnel syndrome therapy, and to see if the efficient keyboard, Finger Relief, can be used as an adjunctive tool to other treatments or therapy for CTS for typists. Subjects who had received a diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome from their medical doctor and, where not contraindicated, had received confirmation of the diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome with a nerve conduction velocity (NCV) study participated in four typing sessions to compare onset and severity of carpal tunnel symptoms. Testing sessions alternated between keyboards. The keyboard selected for the first typing session was determined by random assignment. Twenty subjects completed all four typing sessions. The test protocol consisted of a medical history, 3 tests of the subjective pain experience of the subject (visual analogue scale / verbal rating scale, and hand diagram), 2 clinical measures of physical manifestations of swelling associated with carpal tunnel syndrome (water volume/tape measure), and a measure of the length of time spent typing on each keyboard layout - QWERTY and TheOrdinals (the Finger Relief keyboard).

This study evaluates the ability of ultrasound to measure the movement of tendons and nerves within the human carpal tunnel.

Previous research has shown that YouTube is a poor source of high-quality medical information. This is likely because there is no regulation of the content on YouTube and relatively little of the content is posted by qualified medical professionals. It is known that up to 30% of patients use the internet to research the procedure they will be having and given the increasing popularity of YouTube we suspect many patients are using YouTube or similar sites as a source of information prior to elective surgery. There are likely a number of patient factors that contribute to patients seeking out videos as a source of pre-operative medical information. Patient age, which is generally inversely correlated to computer literacy, may have a role. Patient anxiety and pre-operative worrying may cause a patient to turn to the internet to search for information, and the poor overall quality of the content available may worsen pre-operative anxiety. The primary objective of this study is to determine if providing patients with a reliable, high-quality video about their condition and operation prior to surgery reduces pre-operative anxiety. Secondary aims are to determine the percentage of patients that independently seek out videos online as a source of medical information prior to elective hand surgery, identify patient attributes that are associated with this behavior, and understand if introducing high quality pre-surgical videos has an impact on post-operative patient outcomes and/or patient engagement. The investigators hypothesize that providing patients with high-quality pre-operative videos will reduce pre-operative anxiety. Its is also expected that patients who seek out videos on their own for pre-operative medical information will be younger and have higher anxiety levels and pain catastrophizing scores. Additionally, the investigators hypothesize that patients who watch high-quality pre-operative videos may have better short term post-operative outcomes and greater engagement in their care than their counterparts that did not watch videos or who sought out videos on their own.

When people use hand-held power tools, their hands and arms vibrate along with the tool they are holding. People who frequently use hand-held power tools may develop injuries related to this vibration. This study will evaluate a protective brace designed to prevent vibration-related hand and arms injuries.

There is no golden universal standard for the diagnosis of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS). In this scenario, for a comparison of the effectiveness of the principal diagnostic tests CTS should determine how they affect the likelihood of disease through a clinical accuracy trial of good methodological quality in order to get answers to what is the best diagnostic strategy in clinical CTS practice. The paresthesia in nerve distribution territory median hands is the most common symptom in patients with CTS. The nuisance caused by paresthesia directly affects the quality of life of patients and impairs daily manual activities and sleep quality. To evaluate the remission of paresthesia is a major clinical criterion for improved STC being an expected relevant outcome for the patient. This study evaluated and compared the diagnostic accuracy of the ultrasonography (US) and electromyography (EMG), considering the postoperative status of remission of paresthesia as the reference standard in the diagnosis of CTS.

This study aims to develop Turkish version of the Atroshi-Lyrén 6-item symptoms scale (A-L scale) and to perform validity and reliability evaluations.

The goal of this observational study is to test the new kind of ultrasound-based measurements in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome. The main questions it aims to answer are: Do the measurements of the size of the median nerve at the point where it is maximally compressed accurately diagnose carpal tunnel syndrome? May these measurements accurately tell how severe is the carpal tunnel syndrome? Participants will be asked to: Undergo conduction studies of median and ulnar nerve. Undergo ultrasound of the median nerve. Fill out the Boston carpal tunnel questionnaire and a demographic questionnaire. Researchers will compare the group of patients with carpal tunnel syndrome with healthy volunteers to see if respective measurements differ significantly between groups.

The purpose of the study is to compare the performance of the NeuroPath automated nerve conduction test with the standard of care manual test in the diagnosis of entrapment neuropathies.
