Neurotech Vital Compact Versus Itouch Sure Pelvic Floor Exerciser US
Stress Urinary IncontinenceA prospective, randomised, controlled, single-blind, multi-site clinical study employing Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) to stimulate the pelvic floor muscles of women suffering from stress urinary incontinence. Approximately one-hundred and eighty (180) female patients diagnosed with stress urinary incontinence will be enrolled in this study. All patients who are considered eligible to participate in the clinical study and give consent will be randomised to complete either a 12-week treatment programme with the Neurotech Vital Compact device or a 12-week treatment programme with the itouch Sure Pelvic Floor Exerciser. The 12-week treatment programme will be completed by the subjects at home with treatment with the device in accordance with the device Instructions for Use.
Vitamin D Supplementation in Older Adults With Urinary Incontinence
Urinary IncontinenceVitamin D DeficiencyUrinary incontinence (UI) is a common disorder among older women that greatly affects quality of life. Emerging evidence from observational studies links vitamin D insufficiency with UI. Prior to a larger intervention trial of vitamin D among older women with low serum vitamin D levels and urgency UI, we propose a pilot study in 100 older women comparing weekly, oral vitamin D3 50,000 IU to placebo. We hypothesize that adequate vitamin D supplementation will improve UI symptoms in older women with vitamin D deficiency. Changes in UI-episodes will be assessed by a 7-day bladder diary and other validated symptom measures administered at baseline and after 12-weeks of intervention. Serum calcium and 25(OH)D levels will be monitored. The expected outcomes will provide new knowledge regarding the impact of vitamin D supplementation on UI symptom improvement and inform a larger, randomized controlled clinical trial involving vitamin D supplementation.

Stress Urinary IncontinenceINTRODUCTION: Stress urinary incontinence is a common condition in women and can be defined as the involuntary loss of urine on exertion, exercise, sneezing or coughing. This pathology causes physical discomfort and impacts the quality of life in a negative manner. Physiotherapeutic exercises is a treatment with low cost and high patient attendance. It can be applied with focus on strengthening the pelvic floor muscles or on muscular synergism. OBJECTIVE: To compare the effectiveness of Kegel exercises performed alone or performed in association with the strengthening of the muscles of the hip in the treatment of stress urinary incontinence. METHODOLOGY: The study is a randomized, blinded clinical trial. It aims at assessing objectively the strength of the pelvic floor, the improvement in the number of episodes of loss and impact on quality of life. The study will accept up to 40 women, who will be divided into two groups of physical therapy: group 1 (that will strengthen the pelvic floor muscles with Kegel exercises) and group 2 (that will perform strengthening the pelvic floor muscles with Kegel exercises associated with the strengthening of muscles of the hip). The two groups will be evaluated at the beginning and at the end of treatment.

Mild Pelvic Floor DysfunctionAbdominal hypopressive technique (AHT) is a therapy created for the treatment of the pelvic floor dysfunctions in the postpartum. In the last years it has been extended out of such medical context but there is a lack of scientific evidence, and the endurability of the effects of this technique are unknown. The investigator´s aim was to evaluate the effect of a 12 weeks AHT program on 1) the tone of the pelvic floor muscles and 2) on urinary incontinence, in women out of the postpartum phase. In addition the investigators looked for the endurability of its effect. Methods: The investigators performed a cross-over blinded intervention study of 4 month duration, in which women, stratified by age, were randomly assigned to a sequence of AHT-no AHT or no AHT-AHT. The AHT program consisted of 30 minute sessions, 3 days per week during 2 months. The investigators compared the effect of AHT versus no AHT, and of no AHT after 2 months versus AHT. The endpoints were the differences in perineal tonometry, and urinary incontinence symptoms, as measured by the ICIQ_SF. Comparisons were tested with student t tests, paired or unpaired as adequate.
