Liver Transplant for Larger Hepatocellular Carcinoma in Malatya: The Role of GGT and AFP
Hepatocellular CarcinomaLiver Transplant DisorderRetrospective data on 50 prospectively-collected HCC patients with beyond-Milan criteria with >6cm tumors were analyzed. 5-year OS of 76.2% was found in patients with both AFP <200 ng/ml and GGT <104 IU/mL with tumors less than 10 cm diameter. Thus, GGT values add to AFP in patient prognosis.
Adjuvant Lenvatinib Prevents Recurrence of High-risk Patients With HBV-related HCC After Liver Transplantation...
Hepatocellular CarcinomaHigh-risk patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) suffer from a high ratio of recurrence after liver transplantation (LT). Lenvatinib, as a novel targeted drug, has shown an excellent effect in the treatment of advanced HCC, but there is no study on its effect in preventing HCC recurrence in the patients undergoing transplantation. Therefore, to evaluate the role of adjuvant lenvatinib in preventing recurrence of high-risk LT recipients with HBV-related HCC, the investigators retrospectively analyzed 23 high-risk patients consisting of lenvatinib group (n=14) and control group (n=9) with HBV-related HCC who underwent LT. Disease-free survival (DFS) and HCC recurrence of the two groups were compared. The adverse events (AEs) and drug tolerance of lenvatinib were evaluated.
Myeloid-derived Suppressor Cells (MDSCs) in OSCC Patients
Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Oral CavityOral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) has the highest annual increase in the rate of death among the top 10 leading cancers in Taiwan. This research aimed to explore whether increased anti-tumor immunity for OSCCs reduces the recurrence rate or improves survival. We first identified CD33+/CD11b+/HLA-DR-/low/CD14+/- as myeloid-derived suppressor cell (MDSC) surface markers by using flow cytometry to compare the MDSC frequency of OSCCs with blood samples from healthy donors (HDs). We then re-confirmed the suppression of T cell proliferation and function achieved by co-culturing with OSCC-educated MDSCs. We subsequently explore whether using particulate β-glucan as a food-grade supplement promotes the human immune system via subversion of immune modulatory MDSCs. Lastly, we correlated clinicopathological parameters with MDSCs and β-glucan administration to examine anti-tumor immunity, and to predict the therapeutic effect and prognosis in OSCC patients..
Utility of Squamous Cell Carcinoma Antigen (SCCA) in Psoriasis
PsoriasisSquamous Cell Carcinoma Antigen (SCCA) contributes to the pathogenesis of psoriasis by inhibiting cell apoptosis, exacerbating epidermal hyperplasia and skin inflammation. Three studies have shown a correlation between blood levels of SCCA and the severity of psoriasis. Clinical scores of psoriasis severity are used in consultation to guide treatment of the disease (initiation of systemic therapy, dose escalation) but they suffer from several pitfalls: lack of inter- and intra-observer reproducibility, consumption of medical time. A readily available, inexpensive (24 euros) blood marker could be an interesting alternative to these clinical scores.
Perioperative Coagulopathy in Patients Undergoing Cytoreductive Surgery and HIPEC Intraperitoneal...
Coagulation DisorderCarcinomatosisCytoreductive surgery (CRC) with intraperitoneal hyperthermal chemotherapy (HIPEC) has been shown to improve survival in selected patients with peritoneal carcinomatosis. 51% of patients are transfused due to the high intraoperative blood loss caused by surgery and the appearance of a perioperative coagulopathy attributed to the loss of proteins into the peritoneal cavity, the high fluid turnover and possibly the action of hyperthermic chemotherapy. So far, the haemostatic changes described consist of a decrease in the levels of antithrombin III and the platelet count, as well as in alterations of the usual coagulation tests. Conventional coagulation tests analyze only the plasmatic phase of coagulation while viscoelastic tests, such as rotational thromboelastometry (ROTEM), reproduce the global coagulation process much more faithfully, keeping good correlation with perioperative bleeding. Objetive: The platelet, coagulation, von Willebrand and Factor XIII levels and function have not been consistently investigate in pre-established (fix) time periods in patients undergoing elective CRC with hyperthermia. This prospective observational study aimed at investigating the variations of the values of estándar coagulation test, ROTEM parameters, platelet function assay (PFA-100), von Willebrand and Factor XIII at baseline (before surgery) and after 4h and 48 after surgery in 40 patients undergoing CRC. A control group (N=40 blood donors) will be also obtained by baseline comparasion and to obtain local reference ranges.
Algorithm for Cervix Carcinoma Screening in CZ Using the Detection of HPV DNA and CINtec Plus
Algorithm for Cervix Carcinoma ScreeningCervix carcinoma has been a serious, long-term issue in the Czech Republic. The cause of nearly all cervix carcinomas is human papilomavirus (HPV). Hence the detection of the HPV genome is a more prospective screening tool with higher sensitivity than a cytological swab. As shown by comparative studies, the sensitivity of the HPV DNA test in the detection of severe pre-cancer is 35% higher on average when compared to the cytological test. The study repeatedly determined the presence of the HPV genome, including the prevalence of selected HPV genotypes (16, 18 and other hrHPV) and conventional cytology. The relative sensitivity of the two methods was specified. In the course of the prospective follow-up, the incidence of pre-cancers and invasive tumours in the study population were specified.
Cabozantinib Post First-line Immuno-oncology Checkpoint Inhibitor Containing Combination
Advanced Renal Cell Carcinoma (aRCC)This study will collect real-world data for the new treatment pathways for all patients with Advanced Renal Cell Carcinoma (ARCC) who were treated with a 1L IO (first-line, Immuno-Oncology checkpoint inhibitor) combination therapy and progressed to a 2L treatment with particular focus to understanding where cabozantinib is prescribed after 1L IO containing combination therapy.
