Ankle Equinus Contracture Treated With Dynamic Splinting

Ankle EquinusAnkle Contracture1 more

The purpose of this study is to determine if the Ankle Dorsiflexion Dynasplint System (DS) is effective in treating contracture for patients with Ankle Equinus secondary to diabetes mellitus.

Clubfeet and Twins and Gait Analysis

Clubfoot

Children with clubfeet who were exclusively treated by Ursula Issler-Wüthrich for 3 to 14 years with manual-dynamic physiotherapy and their healthy twin siblings are compared using gait analysis. GaitUp sensors (kinematic) and footscan V9 (kinetic) are the systems used for this comparison. Nonparametric statistics are applied to verify aberrations.

Customized Orthosis for Children With Clubfoot

Congenital Talipes Equinovarus

This study will examine the use of a novel customized Ankle Foot Orthosis (AFO), created using 3D scanning, with children being treated for clubfoot. The AFO is inserted in the standard Mitchell shoe during bracing, following Ponseti casting. The investigators hypothesize that following Ponseti casting, the implementation of customized AFOs with Ponseti bracing will improve patient compliance and functional outcomes as well as lead to fewer relapses in comparison to the standard bracing with Mitchell shoes.

The Effect of Botulinum Toxin A Injections on Ankle Dorsiflexion Following Internal Fixation of...

Equinus Contracture

The purpose of this study is to determine if botulinum toxin type A (Botox) injections, at the time of surgery for pilon fractures, will improve ankle range-of-motion and functionality.

Efficiency of Botulinum Toxin Injection for Spastic Equinovarus Foot in Post Stroke Hemiparetic...

Spastic Equinovarus Foot

Botulinum toxin is the main treatment for focal spasticity but the effects of botulinum toxin injections with respect to limitations of gait activities are still discussed. The aim of this study is to to investigate the effects of intramuscular Botulinum toxin type A injections on quantitative gait parameters (gait speed, step length and width, single support time) and posture, in hemiparetic post stroke patients with lower limb spasticity.

Comparison of Casting Materials for the Treatment of Clubfoot Using the Ponseti Method

ClubfootPonseti Method2 more

The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of cast material on correction of congenital idiopathic clubfeet using the Ponseti method.

A Double-Blind, Randomized Control Trial Comparing Botulinum Toxin Type A (Botox) and Placebo in...

Idiopathic Clubfoot (Talipes Equinovarus)

The purpose of this study is to continue the work from the previous review study and determine the effectiveness of Botox in treating patients with idiopathic clubfoot by comparing outcomes of subjects treated with manipulation and casting plus Botox (treatment group) to those treated with manipulation and casting plus placebo (control group). The null hypothesis is that manipulation and casting plus Botox is not an effective treatment for idiopathic clubfoot. The alternate hypothesis is that manipulation and casting plus Botox is an effective treatment for idiopathic clubfoot.

Dynamic Evaluation of Ankle Joint and Muscle Mechanics in Children With Spastic Equinus Deformity...

Equinus Deformity

This research will lead to the first evaluation of intrinsic and dynamic joint and muscle mechanics of equinus in cerebral palsy. It would provide a direct cause and effect relationship between equinus and bone deformity. Mechanical insights to the pathophysiology of the targeted muscles will lead to better understanding and, thus, to a better medical and surgical management of equinus deformity. Secondary aim will provide an important insight whether key gait parameters can be exclusively relied upon for surgical treatment planning and evaluation. In a medium-term perspective, depending upon the results of this study, dynamic MRI of the ankle joint may serve as a guiding tool for fixed equinus surgery in case of cerebral palsy.

Efficacy of Botox in Patients With Idiopathic Clubfoot

Idiopathic Clubfoot (Talipes Equinovarus)

The purpose of this study was to determine the efficacy of adding Botox injection to serial manipulations and castings in patients with clubfoot. The study hypothesis was that the use of Botox in the setting of serial manipulations and castings is an effective treatment for clubfoot.
