Refractory Reflux Esophagitis

This is a phase 3 multicentre, randomised, double-blind, parallel-group, comparative study to evaluate the efficacy of esomeprazole (D961H) 20 mg twice daily and esomeprazole (D961H) 20 mg once daily in patients (in the form of esomeprazole magnesium salt) with refractory reflux esophagitis after 8 weeks of standard Proton-pump inhibitor (PPI) therapy by assessment of presence/absence of inflammation (esophagitis) at Week 8 according to the Los Angeles (LA) classification

Optimal Dosing of Omeprazole in Neonates

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)

"The principal aim of this trial is to determine the minimum effective dose of omeprazole in neonates with GERD objectively diagnosed by a 24-h intra-oesophageal pH monitoring (pHmetry), to obtain a short-term efficacy in the pHmetry of control performed 72 hrs ± 24 after initiation of omeprazole. The secondary objectives of the study were: (1) to assess the efficacy of omeprazole upon other pHmetry parameters, (2) to characterize the population pharmacokinetics and pharmacogenetics of omeprazole, (3) to evaluate the effect of omeprazole upon oro-pharyngeal pH monitoring and (4) to assess the short-term safety of use of omeprazole in neonates."

Efficacy and Safety of Alginos Oral Suspension to Treat Laryngopharyngeal Reflux

Laryngopharyngeal Reflux

Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR), the backflow of gastric acid into the larynx and hypopharynx, is a contributing factor to hoarseness, throat clearing, throat pain, and globus sensation. The therapeutic effect of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) is controversial because a high placebo effect can be observed. Sodium Alginate is an effective medication indicated for symptomatic treatment of gastroesophageal reflux. This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety profile of sodium alginates oral suspension (50 mg/ml) 20 ml 3 times daily for the treatment of with LPR patients in Taiwan. Efficacy assessments include mean reduction in the total reflux symptom index (RSI) score after 4 and 8 weeks treatment, mean reduction in the total reflux finding score (RFS) after 4 and 8 weeks treatment, mean changes in the total numbers of reflux episodes as measured by 24-hour ambulatory combined impedance-pH monitoring after 1 day and 8 weeks treatment. Safety assessments include incidence of adverse events. The study hypothesis is sodium alginate is superior over placebo in relieving LPR symptoms.

Phase III Study Comparing Zegerid® With Losec® for the Relief of Heartburn Associated With Gastroesophageal...

Gastroesophageal Reflux

Heartburn is the main symptom of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), which, accompanied by acid regurgitation and other symptoms, has a substantial negative impact on a patients' quality of life. Although a number of treatment options are available, a more effective therapy is still required. The failure of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) to completely resolve symptoms is an accepted problem, with approximately 25% of patients with GERD continuing to experience the symptoms of heartburn in spite of treatment. This study aims to demonstrate an earlier onset to relief of symptoms in patients suffering from heartburn associated with GERD using an immediate-release omeprazole/sodium bicarbonate formulation when compared with delayed-release omeprazole (Losec®).

Study to Evaluate the Effect of a Very Low Carbohydrate Diet on Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease...

Gastroesophageal Reflux DiseaseOverweight1 more

The purpose of this research study is to learn if a very low carbohydrate (sugar) diet or traditional low fat diet is able to reduce symptoms related to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in people who are overweight. Patients with GERD may experience all or some of the following symptoms: stomach acid or partially digested food re-entering the esophagus (which is sometimes referred to as heartburn or regurgitation) and belching. In this study, the investigators also hope to find out if acid in the esophagus is reduced more by a low carbohydrate diet than a low fat diet.
