Malnutrition is common in esophagus cancer patients, especially after surgery therapy. Whether parenteral supplement with enteral nutrtion is benificial for patients after esophagectomy is controversial, when compared with enteral nutrition alone. In this study, the investigators are to examine the effect of enteral nutrition supplemented with parenteral nutrtion on nutrition status after esophagectomy.

Gastro Oesophageal Cancer

Whilst oxaliplatin and docetaxel have established activity in the treatment of advanced gastro-oesophageal cancer, their role, however, in the management of this disease remains unclear. Furthermore it is unclear whether this disease is optimally treated with a combination of two or three cytotoxic drugs. This trial aims to determine whether the combination of oxaliplatin and weekly docetaxel warrants further investigation in a formal phase III trial. The combination of epirubicin, oxaliplatin and capecitabine will be the comparator arm for this evaluation. Primary Objective: Determine in a randomised study if the response rate to docetaxel and oxaliplatin (ElTax) is comparable to epirubicin, oxaliplatin and capecitabine (EOX) and warrants further evaluation in advanced gastro-oesophageal cancer. Secondary Objective: To examine the effect of treatment on time to progression, progression free survival, overall survival, quality of life, and the associated toxicity from treatment.

RATIONALE: Everolimus may stop the growth of stomach or esophageal cancer by blocking blood flow to the tumor. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as leucovorin calcium, fluorouracil, and oxaliplatin, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Giving everolimus together with combination chemotherapy may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of everolimus when given together with combination chemotherapy in treating patients with metastatic stomach or esophageal cancer that has spread to other places in the body.

RATIONALE: Monoclonal antibodies, such as cetuximab, can block tumor growth in different ways. Some block the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Others find tumor cells and help kill them or carry tumor-killing substances to them. Cetuximab may also stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for their growth. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as cisplatin and irinotecan, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving cetuximab together with cisplatin and irinotecan may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well giving cetuximab together with cisplatin and irinotecan works in treating patients with metastatic esophageal cancer, gastroesophageal junction cancer, or gastric cancer that did not respond to previous irinotecan and cisplatin.
