Albumin-bound paclitaxel regimen in advanced NSCLC has a better tumor response rate and safety than solvent-based paclitaxel. However, the safety and efficacy is uncertain in neoadjuvant therapy in esophageal cancer. The objective of this single-arm phase II trial was to evaluate the benefit of neoadjuvant chemotherapy with nanoparticle albumin-bound paclitaxel plus 5-fluorouracil in patients with locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.

Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) for Nodal Staging in Esophageal Cancer

The purpose of this study is determine if performing endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) in addition to standard endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) can increase the precision and accuracy of staging esophageal cancer in comparison to EUS alone. The expectation is that EBUS can be used to biopsy lymph nodes that: (1) because of their position in the mediastinum would be inaccessible to EUS, or (2) would be inaccessible due to their position behind the esophageal tumor.

Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) has become a standard technique for addressing all types of thoracic pathology. Insufflation of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the operated chest cavity could increase lung collapse and improve surgical field view. The actual thoracic pressure values may not be identical with the presetting on the insufflator display. This overshoot pressure during VATS may compromise cardiac and pulmonary function. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of intrathoracic pressure overshoot during two-lung ventilation on the hemodynamic and respiratory function and clarify the relative safety of two different techniques of insufflation.
