Does An Abnormal PFA 100 Predict Bleeding After Renal Biopsy?

Kidney FailureAcute4 more

The kidneys are highly vascular organs and any trauma or surgery poses risk of severe bleeding. Platelet function is an integral part of the blood clotting during the initial, so-called vascular phase. So far no universally accepted, easy test has been available to measure platelet functions. Renal failure is a condition generally associated with bleeding due to platelet dysfunctions. This study is exploring the utility of a novel platelet function test, called Platelet Function Analyser-100 to predict bleed after percutaneous kidney biopsy. Platelet Function Analyser-100 will be measure before kidney biopsy along with routine blood tests. Subjects will undergo renal ultrasound before and after renal biopsy to verify post-biopsy bleeding events.

Incidence of Infective Endocarditis in End Stage Renal Disease Patients on Hemodialysis by Transesophageal...

Infective EndocarditisEnd Stage Renal Disease

To detect in more detail the incidence of infective endocarditis in patients with end stage renal disease (ESRD) on hemodialysis. To compare the relationship between different forms of haemodialysis access type and the related incidence of infective endocarditis. To determine individual risk factors, including type of vascular haemodialysis access, previous valve lesion and immunocompromised patients.

AQP-1 Polymorphism on Fluid Status in Hemodialysis Patients

End Stage Renal Disease on Dialysis

It is a cross sectional observational study. It is to investigate whether AQP-1 polymorphism has any impact on fluid status in hemodialysis patients. The long term stable HD patients in the current center will be enrolled to the study after informed consent. Blood samples will be collected for gene-typing. Fluid status including blood pressure, weekly UF and intra-dialysis body weight change will be collected through their clinical records.

Reveal LINQ™ Evaluation of Fluid

End Stage Renal Disease

The purpose of this study is to investigate the use of subcutaneous impedance measured with an implanted Medtronic Reveal LINQ™ insertable cardiac monitor for use as a fluid status monitor in hemodialysis patients. The study will measure the changes in subject subcutaneous impedance and compare with the fluid status assessed by the volume removed from the hemodialysis subject during dialysis sessions. Subcutaneous impedance trends will also be evaluated between dialysis sessions.

Reducing Arrhythmia in Dialysis by Adjusting the Rx Electrolytes/Ultrafiltration, Study B

End Stage Renal Disease

The purpose of this study is to test the feasibility of trials that change the dialysis ultrafiltration rate (UFR) by limiting the maximum rate and to estimate the extent to which limiting the ultrafiltration rate reduces the risk of abnormal heart rhythms in people with kidney failure who are being treated with chronic hemodialysis.

Rituximab Desensitization Therapy for Patients on the Waiting List for Kidney Transplant

End Stage Renal Disease

This is a study of patients who have a high risk of kidney rejection before kidney transplant. The hypothesis is that treatment with a medication called rituximab will make it possible for them to receive a kidney transplant from a donor who previously did not present a good match.

Efficacy of Dietary Education and Education on Phosphate Binder Use in Hemodialysis Patients

HyperphosphatemiaEnd-stage Renal Disease

Hyperphosphatemia is an independent risk factor for mortality among dialysis patients. And most phosphate in human is derived from the food. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of nutritional consultation and education on phosphate binder among dialysis patients.

Food Preparation Effects on Gut Bacteria in Patients on Peritoneal Dialysis

End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD)

This is an intervention study of the effects of food preparation on the gut bacteria in patients with end stage renal disease on peritoneal dialysis. This is a dietary intervention consistent of consuming low amounts of advanced glycation end products (AGEs), the products of protein and sugar interaction during food processing and preparation using high direct heat.

Health Outcomes Patient Education

Chronic Kidney DiseaseEnd-Stage Renal Disease

This study is designed to evaluate the feasibility of using digital-enabled education in clinical care in order to improve patient outcomes related to end-stage renal disease (ESRD). If effective, educational interventions could be used to improve the long-term survival of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and to make clinical care for these patients more cost effective.
