Mass Balance Study of JTZ-951 in Subjects With End-stage Renal Disease on Hemodialysis

Anemia of Chronic Kidney Disease

A mass balance study to determine the routes and rates of elimination of radioactivity, to determine total radioactivity in plasma and whole blood over time and compare levels to JTZ-951 and drug-derived entities in plasma and to determine pharmacokinetic (PK) parameters of JTZ-951 and its metabolite(s).

Evaluation of a Marine OXYgen Carrier: HEMO2Life® for hypOthermic Kidney Graft Preservation, Before...

End Stage Renal Diseases

Kidney transplantation is the treatment of choice for end stage renal diseases, increasing life expectancy and quality of life. Improvement in organ preservation is a critical issue in this context. This is a safety study evaluating the use of an oxygen carrier HEMO2Life® as an additive in organ preservation solution in kidney transplantation.

Effects of Oral Sodium Bicarbonate Supplementation in Haemodialysis Patients (BicHD)

End-stage Renal Disease

The purpose of the study is to investigate whether oral sodium bicarbonate supplementation to ensure a constant bicarbonate profile in haemodialysis patients will primarily lower predialysis potassium levels and secondary lead to improvements in cardiac function, muscle mass and dialysis related symptoms.

Project to Improve Communication About Serious Illness--Hospital Study: Pragmatic Trial (Trial 1)...

DementiaChronic Disease21 more

The objective of this protocol is to test the effectiveness of a Jumpstart intervention on patient-centered outcomes for patients with chronic illness by ensuring that they receive care that is concordant with their goals over time, and across settings and providers. This study will examine the effect of the EHR-based intervention to improve quality of palliative care for patients 55 years or older with chronic, life-limiting illness with a particular emphasis on Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD). The specific aims are: To evaluate the effectiveness of a novel EHR-based (electronic health record) clinician Jumpstart guide, compared with usual care, for improving the quality of care; the primary outcome is documentation of a goals-of-care discussion in the period between randomization and 30 days following randomization. Secondary outcomes focus on intensity of care: ICU use, ICU and hospital length of stay, costs of care during the hospitalization, and 7 and 30-day hospital readmissions. To conduct a mixed-methods evaluation of the implementation of the intervention, guided by the RE-AIM framework for implementation science, incorporating quantitative evaluation of the intervention's reach and adoption, as well as qualitative analyses of interviews with participants, to explore barriers and facilitators to future implementation and dissemination.

Removal of Doravirine by Hemodialysis in HIV-Infected Patients With End-stage Renal Disease (ESRD)...

HIV-infected Participants With ESRD Undergoing Routine Hemodialysis

Doravirine is a novel non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor that has demonstrated good efficacy, tolerability, and safety for the treatment of patients with HIV infection in phase III clinical trials. Doravirine achieved non- inferiority when compared with efavirenz- and darunavir/ritonavir-based regimens. Doravirine is mainly metabolized and eliminated by the liver, with only 6% of the drug being excreted unchanged through the urine. In a study comparing 8 subjects with severe renal disease to 8 subjects without renal impairment, the single dose exposure of doravirine was 43% higher in subjects with severe renal function impairment. However, according to prescribing information, no dosage adjustment of doravirine is required in patients with mild, moderate, or severe renal impairment. On the other hand, data on doravirine pharmacokinetics in patients with ESRD on dialysis are lacking. This may be of special interest because doravirine has a relatively low molecular weight and it is only 76% bound to proteins in plasma. These characteristics could make possible for hemodialysis to remove doravirine from plasma, potentially leading to subtherapeutic concentrations of doravirine after the dialysis sessions. On the contrary, doravirine volume of distribution is about 60 liters,15 what could limit extraction of doravirine by hemodialysis. Since data on doravirine pharmacokinetics in PLWH with ESRD on dialysis are lacking, our aim is to evaluate the effect of intermittent hemodialysis on doravirine concentrations in HIV-infected patients with ESRD

The Effects of Laughter Therapy on Hemodialysis on Depression

End Stage Kidney Disease

End stage kidney disease is associated with increased depression. Laughter is associated with improvement in depression in chronic disease. The study objective was to measure the effect of intradialytic group laughter therapy on anxiety and depression. Pragmatic randomized controlled trial conducted in 10 hemodialysis centers in Northern California. The intervention group received a once weekly 30-minute long group laughter therapy session for 8 weeks. Primary outcome was depression score as measured using the Patient Health Questionnaire.

Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics of Apixaban in Subjects on Hemodialysis

End Stage Renal Disease

The purpose of this study is to assess the pharmacokinetics of a single oral dose of 5 mg Apixaban in subjects with normal renal function and subjects with end stage renal disease (ESRD) maintained with hemodialysis.
