Validation of the GenePOC Strep A, C/G Assay for Detecting Group A, C and G β-hemolytic Streptococcus...

PharyngitisInfective

The primary purpose of this clinical investigation is to establish the performance of the GenePOC Strep A, C/G assay on the revogene. This will be achieved by comparing the test to a conventional method for detection of Group A β-hemolytic Streptococcus (GAS) and pyogenic Group C and G β-hemolytic Streptococcus (GCS/GGS) in throat swab samples.

Detection of GABHS in Throat Gargle

Group A Streptococcus: B Hemolytic Pharyngitis

The objective of this study is to investigate the use of patient throat gargle as an alternative to throat swabbing for the diagnosis of pharyngitis caused by Group A β-Hemolytic Streptococcus (GABHS) infection, also known as strep throat.

R-FACT Study:Risk Factors for Alloimmunization After Red Blood Cell Transfusions

Hemolysis

Alloantibodies can lead to serious clinical consequences and logistic problems like obtaining properly and timely matched blood for the patients who do develop these antibodies. Prevention of such serious events is possible by extended matching and typing of donor's blood against the patient's for all the possible antigens, but this process is cumbersome and costly. Identifying a high risk group will be a feasible first target for advanced matching a big step forward, and the aim of the investigators study. The aim of the project is to examine the association between clinical, environmental and genetic characteristics of the recipient of erythrocyte transfusions and the risk or resistance to immunization against erythrocyte alloantigens that he/she was exposed to during that transfusion episode.

Safe Threshold to Discontinue Phototherapy in Hemolytic Disease of Newborn

Hemolytic Disease of NewbornNeonatal Hyperbilirubinemia

We hypothesized that adopting a lower rather than a higher threshold for phototherapy discontinuation will be associated with reduced rates of rebound hyperbilirubinemia in term and late preterm neonates with hemolytic disease of newborn. Objectives: The investigators aimed to compare the safety of implementing low-threshold, compared to high- threshold, of TSB for phototherapy interruption in term and late preterm neonates with hemolytic disease of newborn.

Effect of in Vitro Haemolysis on Serum High Sensitivity Troponin T Measurements From Patients in...

Troponin THemolysis

This study will be investigating how a common blood test for identifying heart damage (Troponin T) is affected by red blood cell damage in the blood sample (Haemolysis). It is already known that damage to the red blood cells during or after blood sample collection can cause falsely low test results however the exact amount is not clear. Some previous studies suggest that a much higher amount of red blood cell damage could be allowable when reporting the test results. This study will mimic the type of red blood cell damage that occurs in the hospital and determine what degree of damage or 'haemolysis' causes a significant reduction in the test result and therefore determine an allowable limit for safely reporting the test result. The results of this study may help provide an evidence based approach to improving current practice and may lead to fewer rejected blood samples, fewer repeat tests, improved A&E treatment times, general cost savings and an improved service to patients.
