Fatigue Experience in Cancer Patients

Advanced Cancer

The goal of this research study is to learn what it is like when a patient with cancer has fatigue, as well as how these patients define fatigue. Researchers want to use this information to create questionnaires that may more accurately measure fatigue and its effects in patients with cancer.

Combined Strength Training and Functional Endurance Exercise Regimen on Cancer -Related Fatigue...

Breast CancerFatigue

Primary Objective: -Determine if a specific exercise regimen (combined strength training/functional endurance) reduces the level of fatigue among women with breast cancer while undergoing adjuvant or neoadjuvant chemotherapy treatment as compared to a control group. Secondary Objectives: Determine if a specific exercise regimen (combined strength training/functional endurance) increases the overall ability to perform daily physical activities (ADLs) among women with breast cancer while undergoing adjuvant or neoadjuvant chemotherapy treatment as compared to a control group. Determine if a specific exercise regimen (combined strength training/ functional endurance) increases mobility in women with breast cancer while undergoing adjuvant or neoadjuvant chemotherapy treatment as compared to a control group. Determine if a specific exercise regimen (combined strength training/functional endurance) increases endurance in women with breast cancer while undergoing adjuvant or neoadjuvant chemotherapy as compared to a control group.

Molecular-Genetic Correlates of Fatigue in Cancer Patients Receiving Localized External Beam Radiation...

CancerFatigue

Background: Researchers have studied the causes of fatigue during treatments for various diseases, but these results have not been conclusive. More information on the physical changes that affect the body during treatment may help identify biological or chemical factors that contribute to patient fatigue, which may allow physicians to identify individuals who may be more at risk of feeling fatigue before, during, and after treatment for diseases such as cancer. Objectives: To identify factors contributing to fatigue in men who are undergoing radiation treatment for prostate cancer. Eligibility: Men 18 years of age and older who are scheduled to receive localized radiation treatment for prostate cancer. Design: Six outpatient visits to the NIH Clinical Center, approximately on the same day and same time of day: First visit before beginning radiation treatment. Once a week for the first 2 weeks of the treatment, once at the midpoint of treatment, once at the end of treatment. Final visit 4 weeks after completion of radiation treatment. Initial visit will involve a physical examination and questions about medical history. Evaluations during the treatment period: Blood draws to identify cells and chemicals associated with inflammation and fatigue. Questions about physical activity, fatigue, depression, and quality of life.

Depression and Fatigue in MS Patients Treated With Betaferon.

Multiple Sclerosis

This study aims to evaluate the occurence and severity of fatigue and depression in multiple sclerosis patients and the impact of Betaferon treatment on symptoms alterations. The study is conducted in routine practice setting hence no interference with standard care takes place. Pharmacologic treatments of MS-fatigue and depression will also be recorded.

Thyroid Dysfunction in Women With Newly Diagnosed Breast Cancer Compared to Healthy Volunteers

Breast CancerFatigue1 more

RATIONALE: Learning about thyroid dysfunction in patients with breast cancer may help plan treatment and may help patients live more comfortably. PURPOSE: This clinical trial is studying how often thyroid dysfunction happens in women with newly diagnosed stage I, stage II, or stage III breast cancer who are planning to undergo chemotherapy compared to how often it happens in healthy volunteers.
