Exercise During the Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplantation
FatigueAllogeneic Stem Cell TransplantationThe study will evaluate the effects of a structured endurance exercise program on the physical performance, the mood and the complications of patients with hematological malignancies undergoing a high-dose chemotherapy followed by an allogeneic peripheral blood stem cell transplantation.
Cancer Patients' Knowledge About Fatigue
CancerFatigueBackground: Result from an earlier study I carried out in the late 1990 showed that cancer patients were overall well informed about diagnoses, prognoses, symptoms, treatment, side-effects of treatment e.g. pain, nausea and vomiting and hair loss. Their knowledge about fatigue as a side -effect to cancer and cancer treatment was however different. Patients had minimal knowledge about fatigue and they were not prepared for this side-effect and as a result of this they did not know how to handle fatigue and fatigue was seen as a very frightening experience. As a result of the findings I wanted to carry out an intervention study, where the aims were to develop an educational programme about fatigue and to evaluate the effect of the programme. Purpose: The purpose of the project is to develop and describe a structured educational programme. The structured educational programme will serve as the intervention. The purpose is also to evaluate whether or not the structured educational programme increase the cancer patients knowledge about cancer related fatigue and to find out if increased knowledge about cancer related fatigue ease the experience of cancer related fatigue. Another purpose of the study is to investigate the connection between fatigue and other symptoms and to find out how other symptoms influence the patients experience of fatigue. The study will consist of 3 stages. Development of structured educational programme Implementation of structured educational programme Evaluation of the effect of the structured educational programme Materials and methods: The study is a randomised experimental design. An intervention group and a control group, each consisting of 100 Breast Cancer patients (Stadium I or II) receiving chemotherapy or/and radiation therapy after surgery are included in the study. On a NR-scale (0-10) the patients had a fatigue score of 2,5 or more to be included in the study. The intervention is an educational package of 120 minutes x 3 over three weeks. The intervention is given in groups of 10 patients. Both groups are responding to questionnaires just before the intervention, just after the intervention and three months after finishing the intervention. The educational package consisted of basic knowledge about fatigue, and strategies or techniques for coping with fatigue.
Modafinil in Treating Fatigue in Patients With Cancer
Cognitive/Functional EffectsDepression3 moreRATIONALE: Modafinil may help relieve fatigue and improve quality of life in patients with cancer. PURPOSE: This clinical trial is studying how well modafinil works in treating fatigue in patients with cancer.
Implementation of Physical Cancer Rehabilitation Programmes in a European Healthcare System.
CancerFatigueThe aim of this study is to develop and identify the most effective strategy to implement PCRPs into daily care. We want to assess the added value of a multi-faceted strategy compared with a single-faceted patient-directed strategy.
BioSteel Supplementation and Performance
FatigueBioSteel Sports Drink (BSD), a proprietary blend of branched chain amino acids, taurine, and B vitamins, has increased its popularity among professional and amateur athletes. BioSteel claims that BSD attenuates muscular and mental fatigue, and enhances recovery when consumed before and during intense exercise. To date, the efficacy of BSD on attenuating muscular and mental fatigue, and enhancing recovery during repeated bouts of intense exercise is unknown. In a blind crossover study, participants will be subjected to sprint interval exercise followed by muscular and cognitive function testing under two conditions: BSD and isoenergetic control.
Effectiveness of Recovery Protocols Combination in Soccer Players
SoccerPhysical Stress1 moreThe main objective of this project is to compare the effectiveness of combining different recovery methods on perceptual and physical performance on soccer players.
The Effect of Extremely Low Frequency Electromagnetic Field Device Improving Sleep and Stress
StressSleep Quality3 moreThe purpose of this study is to explore the effects of extremely low frequency electromagnetic waves on improving stress and sleep quality. Experimental studies, pre- and post-test double-blind crossover tests are adopted. The selected subjects include: patients in the sleep center of the Taipei Medical University Hospital and the Department of Nursing and Bachelor of Taipei Medical University There are about 100 students in the post-nursing department. They are randomly assigned to groups A and B using a computer. The experiment period is two weeks. The two groups will take a pre-questionnaire test in the afternoon of the first day of the experiment and wear wearable bracelets. Group A first After getting the device with low-frequency electromagnetic field, group B first got the device without low-frequency electromagnetic field. The appearance of the two is the same. The bracelet is worn from the afternoon of the first day to the afternoon of the fourth day, a total of three days, and the device is withdrawn at the end of the first stage The two groups exchanged, repeat the steps to complete the second stage, after the end of the post-test, the two groups plug in the device half an hour before going to bed every day, and put it on the bedside table about 20cm away from the head, and then turn off the device after getting up. The research tools are basic attribute questionnaires, sleep quality scales, sleep diaries, smart care VIP bracelets, and EEG. Among them, the wearable bracelet can monitor the stress index, fatigue index, calories burned, and walking steps. Then SPSS 22.0 software is used for data file building and statistical analysis. The data is analyzed by descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The expected result is that the experimental group and the control group have significant differences in reducing stress and improving sleep quality, which can relieve stress and improve sleep quality.
Epigenetics of Post-exertional Malaise in Patients With ME/CFS
Fatigue SyndromeChronicExploring epigenetic mechanisms of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) is crucial to understand the mechanisms underlying its pathophysiology. Three potential candidates have been selected (BDNF, COMT, and HDAC genes). DNA methylation in the promoter regions of those genes will be explored. The investigators designed a randomised controlled trial and will enrol 70 patients with ME/CFS and 35 age-, sex-, and BMI-matched healthy controls. Both groups will be randomised in 2 groups and receive either one session of aerobic exercise or a validated test designed to trigger mental stress and mental fatigue. The primary aim is to assess genetic and epigenetic mechanisms of BDNF, COMT and HDAC genes in response to exercise and the stress task.
Development and Evaluation of a Cancer-Related Fatigue Patient Education Program
Cancer-Related FatigueThe objective of this study is to develop a structured and evidence-based self-management program to cope with cancer-related fatigue and to assess the efficacy of the intervention in cancer survivors.
Exogenous Ketone Supplementation and Cognitive Function During Exercise
KetonemiaMental Fatigue1 more15 healthy trained males will volunteer to participate in this study. there will be 2 treatments: Ketone esters supplementation and iso-caloric carbohydrate. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of ketone esters on cognitive function during exercise after induced mental fatigue
