Health-related Quality of Life and Fatigue in Adult Patients With Primary Immune Thrombocytopenic...

Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura

Symptoms of Primary Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura (pITP), such as spontaneous bruising, menorrhagia, mucosal bleeding and other symptoms might significantly affect the HRQOL of pITP patients. However, very little evidence exists on HRQOL outcomes in patients diagnosed with pITP. The investigators project will aim at providing scientific community solid evidence based data on the extent to which HRQOL is compromised and in which specific area. The purpose of this study is thus to compare generic Health-related Quality of Life (HRQOL) profiles of adult patients with primary Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura (pITP) with that of a matched Italian population control Group.

Proteomics of Cerebrospinal Fluid in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Chronic Fatigue SyndromeFibromyalgia4 more

The purpose of this study is: To identify specific set of proteins in the cerebrospinal fluid (fluid surrounding the brain and the spinal cord), that are believed to be seen in Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) patients, but not in healthy controls (HC). A similar study that the investigators had conducted before, suggested that significant changes in proteins in the cerebrospinal fluid may be due to the fundamental pathology of this disorder. Increased cerebrospinal fluid pressure (pressure that helps the cerebrospinal fluid to move around the brain and the spinal cord), may be related with certain symptoms like headache, sleep problems, light headedness, increased pain, excessive tiredness (fatigue) even with minimal work and memory problems. Assessment of Autonomic Nervous system function (Sympathetic nervous system)between the CFS and HC. Perform Lung Function Testing or pulmonary function test to estimate the lung capacities and score shortness of breath while performing breathing maneuvers. Dolorimetry (18 tender point test) for assessment of pain threshold. Capsaicin skin test Allergy skin test

A New Tool for Assessing Fatigue in Individuals With Advanced Cancer

Neoplasms

Fatigue is a common problem in advanced cancer and palliative care. The development of tools to measure fatigue, however, has been slowed by their inability to distinguish between fatigue and other related symptoms, such as tiredness. Our work suggests that these distinctions are important because they serve as markers for stressors associated with advancing disease. We have developed a tool that we believe will distinguish between these two states as well as exhaustion. In this study we will conduct some initial tests of this tool in preparation for its use as an outcome indicator in future studies.

Acute Effect of Sound Healing on Pain, Fatigue and Mood

PainFatigue1 more

There is evidence that sound healing improves health and well-being. However, sound healing modalities, such as tuning forks, continue to be understudied, especially among people with chronic illnesses. This study examined responses to a single session of sound healing and explored whether responses varied based on analogue pain, fatigue, and mood.

Fatigue and Sleep in Patients With COVID-19

Covid19

Recent studies show that patients who have contracted COVID-19 retain very significant fatigue after resolving the infectious episode. This fatigue may be explained by low-grade inflammation. There is more data for patients with COVID-19 who have been hospitalized than for non-hospitalized patients with milder forms. However, COVID-19 related fatigue would not only affect elderly people with severe cardiopulmonary consequences but also young subjects without severities. This notion is not very widespread and to date, COVID contracted by young subjects is considered to have very few consequences on their health. It is also known that the prevalence of sleep debt is significant in the general population and particularly in young people, and it is also known that sleep deprivation increases low-grade inflammation and facilitates the risk of viral contamination. The association between sleep deprivation, drowsiness and possibly low-grade inflammation raise questions about the mechanisms of fatigue in the general population. Investigators are also entitled to wonder to what extent the chronic sleep debt suffered by the French population can explain an increased risk of contamination by COVID 19 but also significant residual fatigue after COVID infection. Bordeaux University Hospital screens 2,000 subjects per day at risk of being infected by COVID, it would be very interesting to measure, in a population of young adults aged 18-45 years, frequently exposed to a sleep debt, sleep hygiene (bedtime and wake-up times, sleep and wake-up schedules, and overall sleep satisfaction), average sleep duration, level of fatigue and drowsiness and to compare these thresholds between subjects with or without COVID 19 according to nasopharyngeal PCR.

Evaluation of Muscle Strength, Functional Independence, Myalgia, Fatigue and Dyspnea in COVID-19...

Covid19

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a serious, acute infectious disease caused by Serious Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). COVID-19 can manifest itself in a wide variety of clinical scenarios. Asymptomatic disease, mild flu findings, pneumonia accompanied by acute respiratory failure, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) requiring hospitalization in the intensive care unit, and death are possible clinical consequences. Myalgia, fatigue, and muscle weakness are reported regardless of the severity of the clinical presentation of COVID-19. Data on the prevalence and severity of muscle disorders and weakness during hospitalization and discharge due to COVID-19 disease are limited. The aim of this study is to evaluate muscle strength, functional independence, myalgia severity, physical fatigue and dyspnea in hospitalized COVID-19 patients.

Design and Validation of a German Language Questionnaire for Measuring Alarm Fatigue in Intensive...

Alarm Fatigue

False-positive and non-actionable alarms can lead to staff desensitization ("alarm fatigue") and thus patient endangerment. With this study the investigators create a basic tool to survey alarm fatigue of intensive care staff: the first German language alarm fatigue questionnaire.

Use of 1-MNA to Improve Exercise Tolerance and Fatigue in Patients After COVID-19

Covid19Fatigue Syndrome1 more

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a serious respiratory disease that results from infection with a newly discovered coronavirus (SARS-COV-2). Unfortunately, COVID-19 is not only a short-term infection but that patients (pts) recovering from SARS-COV2 infection complain of persisting symptoms including: fatigue, diffuse myalgia and weakness, which may lead to chronic fatigue syndrome. There is currently no evidence that nutritional supplements and/or physical exercise can assist in the recovery of pts with chronic fatigue syndrome. 1-Methylnicotinamide (1-MNA) is an endogenic substance that is produced in the liver when nicotinic acid is metabolized. 1-MNA demonstrates anti-inflammatory and anti-thrombotic properties. Therefore, we investigated whether 1-MNA supplements could improve exercise tolerance and decrease fatigue among patients recovering from SARS-COV-2.
