Effect of Large Volume Paracentesis on Fatigue in Cirrhosis

AscitesFatigue1 more

The purposeof this study is to determine the effect of a large volume paracentesis (procedure in whihc a catheter is placed to remove fluid from the abdomen) on the severity of fatigue i patients with cirrhosis (severe scarring of the liver) and large volume ascites (fluid in the abdomen).

The Effect Of Cervical Muscle Fatigue in Neck Proprioception and Postural Stability

Muscle Fatigue

PURPOSE: To investigate the effect of cervical muscle Fatigue on neck proprioception and postural stability during cervical flexion. BACKGROUND: Postural stability is the ability to maintain the body in equilibrium either at rest or in a steady state of motion . Muscle fatigue is the diminished response of muscle to repeated stimulus. Cervical proprioceptive inputs provide important somatosensory information influencing postural stability. Hence, the investigators performed this study to evaluate the effect of experimentally induced fatigue on general cervical musculature on postural stability . HYPOTHESES: This study will hypnotize that: Cervical flexor muscle fatigue will have a significant effect on neck proprioception Cervical muscle fatigue will have a significant effect on posture stability RESEARCH QUESTION: Will fatigue of cervical flexors have an effect on neck proprioception and postural stability?

Physiological Responses in Experimentally Induced Cognitive Fatigue in People With Multiple Sclerosis...

Multiple SclerosisFatigue1 more

The current study will add to the current knowledge by combining several electrophysiological techniques to examine the relationship between physiological responses and cognitive fatigue and daily activity performance in a stress- and fatigue-inducing protocol. The aims of this study are: 1) to evaluate the feasibility and usability of assessing physiological responses in an experimental set-up and 2) to investigate the association between physiological outcomes, experimentally induced stress and cognitive fatigue in people with multiple sclerosis (MS) and healthy controls.

Fatigue and QoL Among Gastric Cancer Patients Undergoing Abdominal Surgery

Gastric CancerSurgical Wound Infection2 more

Background: Cancer-related fatigue (CRF), one of the indicators of QoL, is one of the most common side effects of cancer and its treatment. However, the pathophysiological mechanisms involved in CRF among cancer patients are not completely understood. Therefore, more in-depth researches on CRF of surgical patients suffering from gastric cancer are needed in Taiwan. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the incidence rate and correlated factors (QoL and immune biomarkers) of CRF among gastric cancer patients undergoing major abdominal surgery. Method: A longitudinal study was conducted to recruit gastric cancer patients who scheduled to operate at surgical clinics from a northern medical center in Taiwan. The data will be collected with a structured questionnaire and Immune markers assessments via purposive sampling of 120 subjects. Before operation, on day 1 after operation, and on day 7 after operation, the biomarkers will be measured. The BFI-T questionnaire will be filled out before surgery and on day 1, 2, 7, 28 after surgery; The EORTC QLQ-C30 and EORTC QLQ-STO22 questionnaire will be filled out before surgery and on day 7, 28 after surgery; Type D scale-14(Taiwanese version) questionnaire will be filled out before surgery and on day 28 after surgery. Data will be analyzed by using descriptive statistics, paired t-test, Chi square test, Pearson's correlation, and the generalized estimating equation (GEE) was used to identify significant factors with QoL after operation. Anticipated achievement: The anticipated achievement of this study is to provide healthcare providers with more knowledge about CRF, and help them to enhance the quality of life on gastric cancer patients in the future.

Research on Quantification of VR(Virtual Reality) Related Stress and Relaxation

StressPsychological2 more

Current virtual reality device makes motion sickness and visual fatigue having limitation for recreation and other clinical approaches. Still there is no standardized quantification of motion sickness and visual fatigue measurement with objective approach. Current biofeedback accompanied with virtual reality would be promising tool for stress relief.

Fatigue, Depression, and Cortical Excitability in Systemic Lupus

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

Systemic lupus erythematosus is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune disease with an unknown cause and many challenges. Whilst corticosteroids and effective immunosuppressive therapy have transformed the management of patients with active systemic lupus erythematosus, one of the major causes of morbidity in Systemic lupus erythematosus patients is chronic, debilitating fatigue. Despite frequent occurrence of fatigue in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, to the best of our knowledge, no studies have been directly performed to examine fatigue-related changes in cortical motor function in Systemic lupus erythematosus. In this study, we hypothesized that Systemic lupus erythematosus patients with fatigue and depression versus Systemic lupus erythematosus patients without fatigue and depression would present an alteration of motor cortex excitability.

Factors Correlated With Fatigue in Breast Cancer

Newly Diagnosed Breast CancerSurgery Programmed

The aim of this study is to identify the determinants of cancer-related fatigue, and the long-term effect of the different adjuvants treatments will be explored. A prospective longitudinal study in women diagnosed for the first time with stage I-III breast cancer and who have undergone surgery, has been designed to meet the study aims.

Fatigue in Breast Cancer Survivors

Breast CancerCancer Survivor2 more

RATIONALE: Gathering information over time from blood samples and measurements of activity, sleep, mood, and cognition may help doctors learn more about fatigue in breast cancer survivors and plan the best treatment. PURPOSE: This clinical trial is studying fatigue in breast cancer survivors.

Effects of Foot Core Muscles Endurance and Fatigue on Postural Stability and Gait Stability

Gait StabilityPostural Stability

While walking, fatigue, sensorimotor function and motor control can affect in many ways. This research focuses on the relationship between foot core muscles with balance and gait parameters. The main purpose of the project is to investigate the effect of the endurance and fatigue responses of the extrinsic and intrinsic foot core muscles and the isolated fatigue response of the tibialis posterior muscle on balance and gait parameters.

The Effects of Apathy on Different Forms of Fatigue

ApathyFatigue

60 participants with light neuro-cognitive disorders (30 apathetic, 30 non-apathetic) will be recruited from the CMRR (Centre Mémoire Ressources et Recherche) in Nice University Hospital and from the " Fragilily " Platform of the Nice University Hospital. After verification by the investigator, if they meet the inclusion criteria and sign the informed consent, participants will have to wear an actigraph for one week in order to measure their level of activity. Afterwards, participants will have to complete assessments and questionnaires to evaluate apathy (Apathy Motivation Index, Apathy Inventory), perceived fatigue (Fatigue Severity Scale, Borg scale), fatigability (6-min walking test, isometric strength test, double task), the stress level (Perceived Stress Scale) and depression (Geriatric Depression Scale). Regarding the activity level, they will also be asked to perform tasks to evaluate their kinematic movements( through an actigraph), and their particular sensitivity towards effort and reward (through serious game 'Tap-piscine'). The total duration of the evaluation is a maximum of 2 hours.
